The next day, when Esong opened his eyes, the first thought to bombard his mind was Scarlet’s news. He had no other mory other than that, not even how he got to bed. He looked at the ti and cursed. He was very late for the last eting which would officially launch the mission.
Quickly, he jumped out of bed while making a call to the emperor.
"Jeez, at least cover your ass before calling , the emperor’s voice ca from a hologram."
Esong whirled around, noticed that he had made a video call and covered his manly bits with his hands. He was barely dressed.
"I thought I made a voice call." he said.
"Yeah, thanks a lot for flashing . Why are you falling apart today? Don’t tell that you are having last minute panic?
"No, no, it’s not that." He waved his hands.
The emperor giggled and Esong put down his hands. "Shit," he cursed.
"Now I am worried about you. If your mind is scattered then I worry about your mission."
"Scarlet’s pregnant." he blurted out.
"Really!" The empress’s face appeared on the hologram.
The emperor pushed her away gently. "You don’t need to see this." he said.
"Tch!" The empress rolled her eyes.
The bedroom door was flung open and Scarlet ca in with a knife in her hands. Now this was sothing Esong had not seen in a while but it sure brought back mories of the first day they t on the Blue star.
"We are not telling anyone, okay. Nobody needs to know, this is a natural pregnancy and as you all know, such pregnancies are risky. We are not telling anyone about the babies until I am in my eighth month." she told them.
"Oh, babies, we are going to have babies." The empress squealed.
Esong looked rather confused. "Babies, how many are they?"
Scarlet sharpened her mouth and moved it around. After his freaking out and poking yesterday, she wasn’t sure if he could handle any more surprises.
The emperor saved her from answering when he said, "I know that we are all happy about this news but Esong, you are leaving in two hours. All the n have assembled and you are the only one that’s left."
"Eh!’ Scarlet exclaid.
"Information reaching is that so uninvited parties are already trying to get there before you. Their intentions are unknown. They could be planning to take control of the crack and whatever is inside like the mutated beasts. Or maybe they plan to control all the resources on the other side to get rich. Whatever their intentions are, they are not good because they are neither authorized nor read in on the mission." The emperor told him.
"Can’t we stop them from our side?" Esong asked him.
"No, we want to allow them in. Half of them are private guards from the noble families which have been giving a headache. I need you to set a trap on the other side and decimate them all. It will cripple them on this side and I can easily break them."
"Yes your majesty." Esong replied.
"Scarlet, please excuse us. I need to talk to Esong privately." The emperor said.
Scarlet nodded and she stepped out of the bedroom. She put on a brave face and smiled to herself. They had prepared for this. He was not ant to spend this day anyway, he was supposed to be in the Blue city. His ti of departure was unknown. Even if she could keep him here, it would only be for an hour or two.
She sat down in the dining room and waited for an hour until he ca out of the bedroom, dressed and showered. He was in full armor, dressed as he did when he left for the capital last winter.
She got to her feet and smiled as honestly as she could. Compared to now, she would prefer that winter.
"One more kiss." He stood in front of her.
She stood on tiptoe and nodded. He lowered his head and pressed his lips against hers lightly.
Scarlet rembered the pendant which Severus had given her. He had told her to put a drop of her blood and his on it’s hound head.
She froze him and pricked his finger and watched a drop of his blood fall on the hound head. Then she pricked hers and added her blood to his. She put the hound head over his heart and watched the pendant disappear into his body. With this, a bond and a link had been established. If he was in danger, she would know and she would go to him.
She put her lips against his and unfroze him. He didn’t kiss her hard or try to deepen the kiss. He ended it quickly and took a step back.
"May the deity of death watch over you and return you to ." she told him.
"Shouldn’t it be the other way round?" he chuckled and asked. "Like the deity of life."
"No." she said strongly. "The one who can snatch your life is the one I pray to. You and your n, may you be successful and may you return valiant heroes."
"An." he said, and he blew a kiss at her. "Don’t have them before I return." He pointed to her stomach.
She laughed softly and replied, "I will try."
Esong did not use the front door or go through the main palace. To avoid dramatic goodbyes with his family that had received official notifications from the emperor only a few minutes ago, he went out through one of the windows. He took to the skies in his silver armor and vanished amongst the birds and clouds.
She traced him with her reaper vision all the way to the Blue city. Unable to help herself, she teleported and followed him. Not only had the n assembled but they were already moving into the space crack in their spaceships.
The crack had been widened with machinery she had never seen. Tirs were counting down, and five hours and thirty three minutes was the ti left on the countdown.
No wonder Esong had said that the gap was small. If this was all the ti in the world which they had, they had to go through imdiately.
The entire place was very busy and chaotic, lots of noise, cha warriors, engineers, scientists and other people. She was so worried about Esong that she never once thought about the others who would be going in. At least she knew the true nature of his mission, others didn’t.
"May the deity of death watch over you all." she held her hands out and sent out so of her soul power. That was all she could do for them.
Scarlet flew up to one of the trees and she sat down, she opened her soul gourd for all the souls that were pouring through the soul crack or wandering in the forest. She watched, her eyes glued onto Esong until the mont when his spaceship went into the space crack.
A single tear dropped from her eyes and Severus caught it.
"He will be back." The hound said.
"I know." She answered.
