It was like looking into the stars, the most beautiful and brightest stars above in the sky. Zorl was so drawn in that he wanted a closer look, one that would last for as long as possible.
And then, Jelly did sothing that surprised him even more, her hand which was on his face moved lower slightly and grazed over his lips. She was smiling, and teasing him with that beautiful smile of his.
He drew in his breath and stopped himself from breathing.
I can kiss her now, right? Zorl asked himself. This was the signal, he was a good at reading facial cues, and this was it.
He bent his head slowly downwards, with his heart beating wildly out of control. It’s out of control beats increased even more when she closed her eyes and tilted her head upwards. So she really wants to kiss her, he thought.
"I have finished." The doctor announced loudly.
His loud voice burst their bubble and forced them to separate, both looking at different sides of the room as they faked coughs and other weird reactions.
"Miss Jelly, if I had known that all the captain here needed was a beautiful distraction then I woul have called in all the beautiful nurses." The doctor said. "I have never seen a grown man as terrified of needles, pills and a d bed like him. Why go into a dangerous profession if you are afraid of the hospital?"
"I am not afraid." The captain mumbled.
"Right, we have just spent forty minutes on this because you love spending ti with ." The doctor said sarcastically. "Don’t worry, next ti you co in I will be ready."
Th doctor winked at Zorl and he blushed.
"Just give a call next ti." Jelly told the doctor in a small voice.
"Yes miss Jelly, I understand." The doctor chuckled and he excused himself.
Jelly and Zorl, now feeling shy and awkward were left alone in the ergency room, each avoiding the other’s gaze.
It was confird that they were dating and both of them had close enough to locking lips a few tis but sothing always interrupted.
"Why did you co all the way here?" She asked him.
"It’s more private." He answered. "Besides, morial is a little packed and busy right now because eighty percent of those who were injured today are there. And when the governor said that she would be compensating dical expenses, the number doubled."
"Oh, I see." Jelly answered.
"What about you, why are you here? Are you ill? Were you injured in the fire?" He grabbed her shoulder and looked at her hand. His gaze travelled over her neck and then he suddenly went down to check her feet.
He knew that that she had to have been at the scene of that fire.
"I am okay, I am really okay, I ca because your assistant told that you were injured in the fire. I was so worried about you that I ca here directly imdiately after the conference." She explained quickly before he could rip her shoes off.
"Oh." Zorl answered. He stood up and coughed.
He noticed her worried gaze and said, "Smoke inhalation."
"Then we should get dicine for that." She stood up as well and took his hand. "Governor Scarlet said the hospital website has a list of possible side effects of smoke inhalation. Let’s go captain big baby, I am not leaving your side tonight without ensuring that you are well cared for."
Zorl smiled slyly, wondering if this ant she would be spending the night at his place.
"Jelly bean, my arm hurts." He whined.
She held the arm which hurt and lightly patted it as they walked. "I will put a warm compress on it at ho."
"I am also hungry." He went on, pushing his luck.
"I will cook you sothing, how about so rice and beef stew. at is particularly cheap today because over fifty cows have been slaughtered, twenty sheep, close to a hundred chicken. This fire was more deadly for animals than it was for humans. I saw soone that was pierced by the horn of a bull, the governor warned us many tis about the dangerous nature of animals but to witness it!! It was grueso." She shivered as her mind travelled back to that scene.
In the anti, Scarlet was packing up the last of Esong’s supplies in the pantry with Severus as they had a conversation about the most important thing in her life now, the children.
" Why did you go to Carnelia for answers?" She asked him, looking at him with accusatory eyes.
"Shouldn’t you be glad that I did because now we have answers at least. You said it yourself that you were exhausted and if you had to eat one more hell fruit then you might as well reap yourself." He repeated her words back to her as she had said them to him.
"It was a figure of speech." She said defensively.
He pushed a glass jar in her direction and she poured so preservation herbs from the underworld inside, and then added a mixture of fruits.
As she made the fruit salad, she told him, "I don’t know if we can trust them. I think we need more answers, they never told about the existence of my children or their marking of them before I could find out they even existed. Doesn’t that strike you as weird?"
She shook her head and frowned, "It’s not right, if they say it was for their protection then I should have been told. And what was that protecting humanity from nonsense about.
If the empress could cripple her own son to save the empire, I can do the sa to save the world. Rather than my child living a life of being hunted by warrior reapers, deities, hounds and evil, I would rather he or she be reincarnated into a better life. I would make that kind of deal with the deity before giving the child up."
Severus sent her another jar and told her, "The greatest battle in the realms is between life and death. If we go seeking for answers and the deity of life finds out, I am afraid that things might not go so well for those little ones. He could rip them right out of your stomach without a care. Maybe we should wait on that search for answers thing until the children grow a human shell. The less attention you draw towards yourself now, the safer you are."
The deities were brutal, the sooner she accepted that fact and stopped seeing them like friendly, cuddly, sweet beings, the better.
