Four days of daily live broadcasts to teach the people about fruits cakes, jams, candies and other recipes kept Scarlet busy. Making her even busier was participating in the planting of tea trees and when she wad not doing that, she was sneaking away to climb the wall in the underworld. On this issue, the pressure was on because first position had been claid even though the identity of the winner was yet to be revealed.
The deities sure loved to maintain an air of mysticism and keep others in a perpetual state of curiosity.
There was just a day left for the gas to end and she was determined to co second, so, all through the night, Frost had faced the challenge and waved his flag when he couldn’t take it anymore. When he ca down, according to Severus, he was frozen like a popsicle, bleeding from his nose and unnaturally silent. All he said, was that there was sothing up there.
Now that it was Scarlet’s turn to climb, she couldn’t help worrying about that sothing and how it would affect. For starters, she already hated the cold in the underworld which her green fla aided her in fighting off but if the guy whose special ability was enhancing that coldness ca down frozen, how would she make it?
The irony was that she ca with a large tin of mixed berry ice cream and now, she could not even lick a single spoon because the cold worried her, anwhile, the hounds were gluttonously dividing it amongst themselves.
Severus shot an unimpressed glare at his mates who were behaving rowdily as if they had not seen ice cream before. They were certainly embarrassing him!!
He looked at Scarlet whose eyes had not faltered away from the wall, for a single second, not even to observe Frost who was basking under a light stone that was keeping him warm with his eyes closed.
"I...." he wanted to apply pressure, but he hesitated. "Good luck." he changed his mind and said, instead.
"Thanks." she said, in a soft voice that was barely more more than a whisper and she vanished.
Scarlet had made up her mind to finish the mission, co rain or sun, she would be one with the wall. That’s what the monks had said, be one with the wall.
So, she entered a cultivation state, concentrating on seeing and feeling with her energy. She closed her eyes, and opened them only to use grim reaper vision.
She took the first step, and inhaled the cold chill which was quick to invade her body and swift to freeze her bones. She had hardly climbed five steps when her fingers started to feel numb and hard. Her hands felt heavy, and she could hardly lift them. There was pressure pressing down on her body like invisible hands of a giant that sought to push her down.
In Lythia’s place, the deity of lies who refused to leave despite the many complaints from the others smirked and said slowly, enunciating every of his word, "What will she do?"
"Only one has made it across, I bet she will give up." the deity of chaos who arrived because his fellow deity with whom they created havoc was here. "You overestimate that puny thing."
"And you underestimate her." Lythia said.
"I don’t understand why you are so protective of her shadow, what are you hiding?" the deity of light asked her.
"She has a good heart, and that is enough for to want to protect her." Lythia answered.
"You didn’t look at when you said that, no, there is sothing else." the deity of light said.
Lythia shrugged and waved her hand.
The tin of ice cream Scarlet had brought disappeared from the small cooler Scarlet had brought and it appeared before Lythia.
"Mmm, ice cream." she said, with a smile. And then, she she waved her hands again, a spoon appeared in them and she dug into the tin.
The deity of light scowled and asked her, "How can you eat sothing those mutts have touched, disgusting!"
"Don’t insult my creatures." the old deity said, sternly. "I might forget that we are brothers and avenge them."
As they bickered, like they always did, Scarlet battled her own inner demons. She was inhaling and refining the cold energy that was pressuring her body with her fla from the inside as she had been practicing, however just as she found a new rhythm and progressed rapidly, a new challenge was thrown her way.
She was plagued with visions from her past, mories from the zombie apocalypse which roused great fear within her.
"They are not real, I am a grim reaper, I can’t die." she said those affird these words to herself over and over. Slowly, she cald down and beca one with the wall again, even seeing the path ahead of her clearly.
The cold energy which she continuously refined gave her strength to keep moving, heating her body up and keeping the discomfort at bay.
Dissatisfied, the deity of chaos whined, "This is too easy, I don’t like her."
"Hmph." Lythia smirked.
"Wanna see a trick." the deity of lies smirked too and he shot sothing out of his finger.
On the wall, Scarlet who was feeling confident almost her grip when red eyes on the face of a partially rotten human body popped up and growled in front of her.
She scread and her hands loosened, as she was overwheld with a need to turn back and run.
"Not real, not real." she convinced herself.
The second growl however, woke her up out of the senseless stupor. It was right there, crawling towards her from above, and blocking her path to victory. Her breath beca more and more uncontrolled, and her mouth moved, as she mumbled unintelligible words.
"Real, real," she panicked.
The wind around her picked up speed, sounding mournful and releasing voices.
"Kill it." a voice whispered in the wind.
"Don’t be afraid child." another said.
"Give up or be eaten, aren’t you scared? Look at it’s sharp yellow teeth and that pungent sll."
"Can’t hurt , I am dead already, I am immortal." Scarlet ignored the voice which was obviously taunting her. Rather than give in to ear, she chose to reaffirm that which she knew so clearly. She was dead and she was immortal.
"Are you sure?" the taunting voice asked.
"Watch out." another voice scread.
Scarlet saw the hand of the zombie swipe downward, reaching for her head. She scread montarily swamped by fear and waved one of her hands, releasing the small cage of green mist which could trap a grim reaper. The zombie was frozen in place, unmoving. It’s long clawed fingers were right above her head, and they were still moving, even though the rest of it was not.
She opened her soul gourd and trapped in there permanently. All evil could be trapped in that gourd, of that, she was sure.
"Oh!!" the taunting voice said.
"Perfect." Lythia said and laughed in her palace.
The deity of lies and tricks was unhappy and he sulked. "That was too easy, I can try sothing else."
"And I will throw you out of my realm, permanently." The old deity warned him. "If you ruin this ga, how many reapers d you suppose will take part next year? It takes a lot of energy to suppress the mountain of demon bones to which you all contribute every year. You know the importance of the gas, don’t ss around."
