Chaos burst through reality with a ferocity akin to a dam that had finally collapsed. Pure darkness covered the sky, broken only by the shiny silver of their claws.
As they swirled in the air, the demons scread with glee. Once again they would be able to indulge in the delicacy that was screaming flesh. More than that, this world, it was...
Teeming with life!
Their dark beady eyes surveyed the vast expanse below, taking in each and every person with a feeling that was nothing short of complete excitent. Even their mouths watered as they prepared for slaughter.
...
'They just keep coming!!!' Nick thought as he swung his fang yet again.
It was like the oxygen in the air had been switched with demons. Not even a step could be made without 5 of them slicing through the air with that stupid gleeful chitter Nick was more than happy to silence.
For how dangerous the demons were, they were also quite ugly. Most of their body was completely dark, directly contrasting their bright white face. Their skin shriveled into a million wrinkles that seemingly originated from their indented noses. Each of their eyes were the size of a baseball even though their face seed to be little bigger than 2 enclosed fists.
Despite a lack of wings, the little demons were sohow able to fly. Despite their offensive ugliness, they were quite dangerous creatures. Each hand was fitted with 5 razor sharp claws.
In the back of his mind, Nick knew that civilians were falling like flies against such claws. It was possible that even the other mbers of his team would die against these demons. They might fare well against 10 or 20 of them, but they ca in bundles of thousands.
Unless soone was either transcendently strong or had an extensive array of AoE skills, it was almost guaranteed that they'd be overwheld at so point. It was just simple logistics.
Therefor, Nick felt like he had a duty to make the most of his [Emperor's Slash] for as long as he could. Out of everyone here, he was certainly the best option for protecting these civilians.
At the sa ti though... he did have to kill Yck.
Sothing told him that without breaking the first seal of Annihilation, it would be impossible to survive this and kill the entire demon squadron.
Before she even spoke, Nick knew that she shared this sentint.
"Progenitor... I understand your desire to save these people. They didn't ask for a demon army to slaughter them... none of us did. However, there is sothing much more important at stake here."
More important?!
Nick ground his teeth so hard that bone scraped off, slicing the interior of his mouth. He paid no mind to the following pain as he focused on killing the demons in front of him.
Each and every one of them had to die—not a single could be left alive. Only then would they be safe... only then would these innocent people be safe.
'That's what's important here!!!'
Screaming with fury, Nick found another group of demons to slaughter. Blood beca a need.
'More.'
'I need more...' Nick snarled internally. With every raise of his arm, every follow through of his blade, Nick could feel this need to kill rise.
And he did nothing to stop that feeling. If he tried, he knew that they would lose instantly. This enemy they were facing knew nothing about rcy, in fact they knew nothing but death. He had to respond in kind.
And this response included Yck. He... had to die.
Now.
It was strange, like another voice began guiding Nick and yet he knew it was his all the sa. The version that was ready to do the hard but necessary sacrifices. In this instance, it was simple logistics.
If he tried to save everyone, everyone would simply die. It was like trying to use a water bucket to stop a waterfall.
At the end of the day, there was only so much a single person could do. Especially when they were faced with forces like these, that killed without much of a second thought.
Nick sighed as he destroyed his last hesitations. In the anti, his fang had begun moving like it had a mind of its own.
Even as 10, 50, 100 demons attacked him, trying to find so way through his defense, Nick wasn't close to being overwheld. His objective was clear and he had made peace with it.
'Kill Yck.'
Even if he was human.
Even if a few had to sacrifice themselves so that the many could live.
This is what needed to happen, no matter if it felt awful. The seal had to be broken, Nick had to obtain the power it held.
If this army was an indicator of anything, it was that the upcoming battles would be nothing short of horrific.
With that fact, it was evident that Nick's only option forward was to break this seal and level up.
'Speaking of...'
Why wasn't he gaining any experience?
At this point he knew he had killed hundreds of demons, and yet not a single experience notification had appeared. Of course, there was the slight possibility that he had simply missed it.
However, sothing told him that that wasn't the case.
This was just like the dead from earlier that had turned out to be people Elise rose from the dead. Because they were really almost just a product of a spell, they hadn't given Nick any experience.
Which ans...
Every hair stood on Nick's arm as a sudden and overwhelming pressure filled the area. The demon squires had seemingly even forgotten their bloodlust and stopped in their tracks.
It was almost as if ti stood still in that mont, bracing for the upcoming conflict.
What awaited Nick now wasn't so simple squire, so mindless and ugly demon that swung its talons with all the grace of a two-year-old.
No, this soldier was experienced and dignified.
More than that...
It held no regard for its soldiers.
Blood flowed out of the squires as if their body had beco a faucet. Except this blood didn't fall to the ground. Instead, it traveled through the air as if it was going through a tube.
All of this blood collected in front of one being:
