No one knew how long the embrace lasted before Gu WeiJun finally let go of HuMing and began checking his condition.

Though there weren’t any serious wounds on his body, the bloodstains across his chest gave Gu WeiJun a terrible fright.

“HuMing, the rescue team’s already here. Let’s go ho.”

Gu WeiJun tried to help him up, but HuMing shook his head.

“Dad, I can’t leave yet. YunXi’s been taken. I need to go save her.”

He knows Han YunXi will be waiting for him. Even if Han ShuYi could protect her for now, once word got out that he was still alive, they would all be in danger.

Right now, the only way to keep them safe was to remain “dead”.

He reached out, placing a hand firmly on Gu WeiJun’s arm, and continued.

“Dad, I need a boat to get out of here. Can you arrange that for ?”

“HuMing, don’t be ridiculous. Do you even know the state your body’s in? I’ll send soone to take care of Han YunXi. You need rest!”

Gu WeiJun was clearly worried that HuMing might collapse at any mont. But HuMing just smiled.

“If I were that fragile, I wouldn’t have made it this far just to see you. Trust your son—no one can kill . Besides, YunXi and I made a promise. I have to be the one to save her.”

At tis like this, HuMing could only trust himself.

He knew involving the Gu family might make things easier—but it could also make everything worse.

What if Gu ZhaoChuan had planted eyes among the rescue teams? That would place both Han ShuYi and Han YunXi in danger.

He couldn’t risk that.

Gu WeiJun’s brows furrowed tightly. If this were any other ti, he’d never agree to HuMing’s request.

HuMing looked frail now. No matter how confident he sounded, sending him back into danger was sothing Gu WeiJun could never allow.

But HuMing’s resolve was unwavering. He clearly wasn’t going to back down on this.

Gu WeiJun hadn’t been there for HuMing’s past. He didn’t know how deep his bond with Han YunXi ran. But hearing those words, he knew there was no talking him out of it.

He sighed heavily, as if accepting reality.

“Fine. I’ll help you get a boat. But you need to rest properly first.”

“Okay.”

HuMing sat down sowhere nearby, waiting for Gu WeiJun to bring supplies.

anwhile, Gu ZhaoChuan sat with furrowed brows, deep in thought.

Things were developing faster than expected. He hadn’t anticipated HuMing running into Ruo Dan.

He’d heard reports that Han ShuYi had killed HuMing—but they never found the body. That made him restless.

If he could still sit still before, he couldn’t now.

What he couldn’t believe was that HuMing knew—about his secrets, about his true identity!

That ant HuMing’s return to the Gu family wasn’t a coincidence. He’d used Second Grandpa’s na to slip in under their radar and deceive him.

Now it all made sense—why HuMing always looked at him like that.

He’d been played the entire ti!

With a furious roar, Gu ZhaoChuan slamd his fist into the table and snapped his eyes open.

“HuMing, if you’re still alive, how the hell am I supposed to stay in this family?! I really hope you’re dead for real this ti.”

He stood abruptly, hoping to catch his breath outside.

But as soon as he opened the door, he found a figure standing there—one that caught him completely off guard.

“ZhaoChuan, got a mont? If you're free, take a walk with .”

Gu ZhouTing stood with his hands behind his back, looking more frail than before.

For years, Gu ZhouTing had ntored him, teaching him everything about the family. Though Gu ZhaoChuan wasn’t a blood relative, this place was ho to him.

He didn’t want to lose it to HuMing.

He’d do whatever it took to push him out.

“Sure.”

They walked together through the garden. The sun overhead was gentle, not as stifling as before.

Gu ZhaoChuan glanced at the aging figure beside him, noticing how hunched he had beco. He fell into silence.

Sowhere along the way, Grandpa had grown old.

And in his current condition, any more stress might be dangerous.

“ZhaoChuan, ever since HuMing ca back… do you feel like this family’s been ignoring you?”

The question hit like a brick. Gu ZhaoChuan froze mid-step. A terrible thought struck him—Grandpa might know sothing.

“No, Grandpa. Why would I think that? Ever since HuMing returned, a lot’s changed in the Gu family. I’m just glad he’s back.”

“ZhaoChuan… if I’d asked HuMing that, he would’ve answered directly. You, though, you’re not being honest.”

A cold sweat broke out across Gu ZhaoChuan’s back. For a second, he thought his secret had been exposed.

He quickly cald himself and forced a smile.

“Grandpa, do you think HuMing and I are that different?”

“Oh? Why do you ask? Is it because you feel pressured by his return?”

Gu ZhouTing turned to face him. Gu ZhaoChuan nodded silently.

With a sigh, Gu ZhouTing clasped his hands behind his back and shook his head.

“ZhaoChuan… competition is natural. But don’t forget—we’re a family. Families support one another. The Gu family isn’t like other clans. I don’t want power struggles. I want unity.”

He thought back to the old days, to how the Gu family’s obsession with power had cost them dearly. If not for that, Gu ZhouXing wouldn’t have died far from ho.

He wouldn’t let it happen again.

Reaching out, he rested a hand on Gu ZhaoChuan’s shoulder, voice low and heavy with aning.

“ZhaoChuan… I hope this family stays whole, always. Do you understand?”

Gu ZhaoChuan stood frozen, unsure what to say. He didn’t fully understand those words—but he could tell Grandpa ant every one of them.

[Was that a warning?]

Lowering his gaze, he fell silent.

Gu ZhouTing walked ahead without turning back.

It had been a while since HuMing last called. He wondered how things were going—but his son had already gone, and there probably wasn’t much to worry about…

Han LiTian stared at his phone, brows furrowed.

Ever since the earthquake, Han YunXi hadn’t contacted him. Neither had HuMing. A deep sense of dread filled him.

He set the phone down and stepped on the gas. The car sped toward the mountain village.
