"Dr. Huang wasn’t lying to you. I really couldn’t get in touch with Shi Zhong these past few days. That guy vanished into thin air—no word, no sign."

As Gu WeiYi and HuMing sat in the sa office, Gu WeiJun propped his chin up with both hands, eyes fixed on them. Ti felt like it was slipping past with a touch of helplessness.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that HuMing’s connection with his brother was stronger than his own. Even if they shared the sa goals, couldn’t HuMing at least talk things over with him too?

Gu WeiJun truly didn’t know how to handle HuMing. The boy was far too mature for his age, and Gu WeiJun had no experience building rapport with soone like that. What’s more, as his father, he wanted to find so angle—so way—to make it up to him.

But now, with them deep in discussion, he didn’t want to interrupt.

"Seems like sothing really unexpected happened to Shi Zhong," HuMing said, brows furrowing. "Otherwise, there’s no way he’d disappear so easily."

He suddenly thought of Dr. Huang’s situation, turned to look at his uncle, and asked, "Uncle, do you know anything about Dr. Huang’s wife?"

"Looks like he’s planning to make a deal with you. But co to think of it, this has sothing to do with you too."

"With ?" HuMing looked puzzled. He had no idea what his uncle was referring to.

Gu WeiYi slowly lifted his gaze to et Gu WeiJun’s. But Gu WeiJun just blinked in confusion, having no clue what his younger brother was getting at.

"Back when I was looking into Dr. Huang’s wife, I uncovered sothing critical. Big Brother, Dr. Huang’s wife… she was one of the nurses who helped deliver HuMing."

Gu WeiJun froze where he sat, and HuMing’s expression mirrored his.

Neither of them had expected this whole ss with Dr. Huang to be connected to them—and in such an important way, no less.

Gu WeiYi adjusted his glasses and continued.

"There’s another crucial detail. All the dical staff who delivered HuMing back then… died, for various reasons. The only one missing is Dr. Huang’s wife. She disappeared without a trace. I still haven’t been able to find her." Gu WeiYi’s brows tightened into a knot.

There was a lot he couldn’t make sense of.

He’d had suspicions about Gu ZhaoChuan’s identity for a long ti. But the boy always acted so normal, never showing anything out of place. Over ti, Gu WeiYi’s wariness had faded.

Only when HuMing appeared and laid everything out did he realize—his hunch had been spot on all along.

So when HuMing said what he did, Gu WeiYi wasn’t surprised. If anything, he felt relief.

"I suspect Shi Zhong started infiltrating the Gu family back then—and ZhaoChuan was just a pawn in his ga."

Hearing what he didn’t want to hear, Gu WeiJun slowly closed his eyes. For a mont, he didn’t know how to argue back—because the evidence was right there. Anything he said now would just sound like an excuse.

"Brother, right now our top priority is finding Dr. Huang’s wife. But I already assigned soone to investigate a long ti ago. We don’t have much ti left."

HuMing pressed his fingers to his chin, deep in thought.

He was turning sothing over in his mind.

Dr. Huang had told him that after seeing his wife once, he could only hear her voice afterward. But voices… voices can be faked. If Dr. Huang never actually saw her again in real life, didn’t that an there was a chance Shi Zhong never had her at all?

It seed highly possible to HuMing, but he didn’t dare jump to conclusions. He trusted his instincts—but he couldn’t let his uncle bear the consequences of a hunch.

That wasn’t the kind of move he was willing to make.

With so few clues left, HuMing figured it was ti to return to his second Grandpa’s residence and look at the things left behind for him.

After all, if his second Grandpa had once tracked him down at the Han household, it ant he probably knew so inside information about Shi Zhong.

Maybe he even had a clue that could bring Shi Zhong down for good.

With that thought, HuMing took a deep breath and resolved to stop overthinking.

"Uncle, what about Gu ZhaoChuan? Are you planning to make contact with him?"

"Hmm? Why do you ask?" Gu WeiYi clearly hadn’t expected the question.

After all, even he had no real solution when it ca to Gu ZhaoChuan.

Hearing the na, Gu WeiJun also perked up. If possible, he really hoped HuMing could co up with a solid way forward.

"I actually talked to Gu ZhaoChuan a long ti ago. Back then he was using a voice changer—thought I wouldn’t know who he was."

"You an when he attacked you with one eye?"

"Yeah. When I said he was just soone else’s puppet, he got angry. He seed genuinely upset about his identity. But he couldn’t break away from it. He knew that if the truth ca out, his future would end up like Han ShuYi’s—completely ruined."

"That’s not true!" Gu WeiJun cut in, hurriedly. "Even if he’s not a real Gu by blood, we still raised him all these years—how could I possibly cast him out?"

But the mont the words left his mouth, he realized they didn’t sound right. Especially not with HuMing sitting right there.

Still, HuMing didn’t seem to care what Gu WeiJun said—because he already knew. A lot of people in the Gu family probably thought that way.

"You’re right, Dad. I think Gu ZhaoChuan knows what you really feel. Or maybe he doesn’t. But right now, the situation leaves him no room to choose. With Shi Zhong missing, a seed may have been planted in his heart—the desire to break free."

HuMing recalled that day when he was playing chess with Grandpa and Gu ZhaoChuan had shown up.

Gu ZhaoChuan had lost in the end—but looking closely at the final board, HuMing felt sothing wasn’t right.

Gu ZhaoChuan had gone down fighting.

Of course, that was just HuMing’s personal theory. But he couldn’t help but wonder if Gu ZhaoChuan really had been looking for a way to break the ga all along.

And now… now was the critical mont.

"ZhaoChuan is in the sa position as you—forced to make a choice."

Gu WeiYi narrowed his eyes, like sothing had just clicked in his mind.

"You’re saying… we should try to bring ZhaoChuan over to our side?"

"No, WeiYi," Gu WeiJun cut in, startling both of them.

"HuMing’s trying to get you into ZhaoChuan’s side."

Gu WeiJun crossed his arms and his eyes dimd, as if he’d seen through the plan.

"ZhaoChuan is probably trying to kick both HuMing and Shi Zhong out of the ga."
