“I don’t know what you’re planning, but I have a feeling—soone like you must have sothing on Shi Zhong. After all, you don’t seem like a particularly bad person. It’s been a pleasure eting you, Dr. Huang.”

HuMing stood up, clearly not intending to continue the conversation.

Dr. Huang narrowed his eyes, studying HuMing as though trying to see through him—to understand what kind of person he really was.

But unfortunately, he couldn’t. He couldn’t figure out what leverage HuMing could possibly have to stand up to Shi Zhong.

He had been like this from the very beginning, and Dr. Huang truly didn’t believe HuMing had the ability to handle this entire ss.

Unless… HuMing showed him sothing—sothing that proved he could be trusted.

“HuMing!”

Xia XiaoXi rushed over the mont she saw him, unable to hide her excitent.

The mont she entered, all eyes in the room shifted to her.

Most people there recognized her na, but very few had expected soone like her to show up at an event like this.

“Did you see that? Xia XiaoXi ca in with the Xia family!”

The ‘idol’ title didn’t an much to most of them, but the Xia family na certainly did—especially in a place like JingDu, where it was gold.

Who wouldn’t want a partnership with the Xia family?

Xia XiaoXi ignored all the stares around her and headed straight for HuMing.

From her pocket, she pulled out a small box and handed it to him.

“Your birthday present!”

“Thanks.”

“Open it! I wanna see your reaction!”

She was clearly eager, practically bouncing with anticipation. HuMing opened the box—and inside was a finely crafted bracelet. It didn’t look particularly expensive, but it was elegant.

“She made it herself,” Xia Chen explained as he strolled over, then added with a smirk, “Put in so effort too. But man, it’s ugly.”

Xia XiaoXi shot her brother a glare, then reached out to shove him aside.

HuMing picked up the bracelet from the box and slipped it on. It fit perfectly.

“It’s a great gift. I really like it. Thank you.”

He looked up and smiled at her.

Seeing that smile, Xia XiaoXi’s heart nearly burst with joy.

“You’re the star of the night, so I won’t bother you for now. I’ll be outside on the balcony later—co find !”

She pointed to the wide balcony beyond the hall. People who didn’t like noisy crowds often retreated there.

With Xia XiaoXi and Xia Chen present, a crowd quickly ford around them.

Many guests tried to add Xia XiaoXi’s contact info, but Xia Chen blocked every attempt with his smooth, unfazed deanor.

Watching him, HuMing realized Xia Chen had matured a bit during this ti.

He looked down at the bracelet on his wrist, then turned and headed toward the main entrance.

There, he ran into Shi Dan and Shi Ren. Behind them stood Zhao DanNi and the Shi family’s old master.

The old man imdiately recognized him—that unfamiliar face must be the boy Shi Ren had been talking about.

He looked calm and composed, nothing like his own grandson.

No wonder Shi Ren had said Shi Dan wasn’t a match for him. Still, the old man believed ti would tip the balance—his son would turn things around.

Zhao DanNi, anwhile, was stunned.

She hadn’t expected the boy she saw in her daughter’s room to be… the Gu family’s grandson!

Why hadn’t Ye QiuXue told her about this?

Silently, Zhao DanNi fell into a daze.

Shi Dan, on the other hand, stepped forward.

“HuMing. We et again.”

“I thought you wouldn’t dare show up.”

The mont HuMing spoke, several people around them visibly stiffened. Those who had just entered instantly picked up on the tension between the two.

Shi Dan’s smile vanished. His tongue pressed against his cheek, trying to suppress the rising fury.

“Why wouldn’t I? You’re with the Gu family. Since you invited us, of course we’d co.”

“Good. Then I hope you enjoy yourself tonight.”

Shi Dan brushed past him, not saying another word. HuMing and Shi Ren locked eyes briefly—neither saw anything in the other’s gaze.

And then HuMing turned to face the old master.

There was no fear in his eyes, despite the age gap.

“So you’re Gu ZhouXing’s grandson? You don’t look like him. But your temper, now that’s familiar.”

“Of course. Grandpa always told : in JingDu, there’s nothing to fear. If soone crosses you, beat them to a pulp first—then decide who’s right or wrong later. Sound familiar?”

The old master’s face froze.

He knew exactly what HuMing was doing—mocking him.

His fingers curled tightly around his cane, and his gaze grew colder.

“You’d better watch that mouth of yours, boy. JingDu’s a big place. Sooner or later, you’ll cross soone you really shouldn’t. Don’t get too cocky—you might throw your back out trying to stand too tall.”

“You’re right. That’s why last week, I taught soone a lesson—soone I could afford to offend. If he tries anything like that again, a hospital stay might not be enough.”

Up ahead, Shi Dan heard that clearly. His fists clenched. He nearly lost it, ready to throw a punch right there.

But then Shi Ren’s voice whispered in his ear:

“Did you forget how badly he beat you last ti? If you don’t have the strength, then hold it in. Don’t let your stupidity drag the whole Shi family into a ss.”

That snapped Shi Dan out of it. He cald down—but deep inside, the urge to kill HuMing only grew stronger.

“Hu… Young Master Hu, it’s getting late. Let’s go inside,” Zhao DanNi said, supporting the old master.

But HuMing’s voice cut her off, sharp and direct.

“Ms. Zhao. Enjoy your luxury and status. But don’t drag your daughter into your little circles. You haven’t raised her all these years—what right do you have to pull her down with you now?”

“I… I’m only doing what’s best for her.”

“I’ll only say this once. I’m not like Ye QiuXue. She likes to bottle things up. ? I retaliate. Directly. So I hope you understand where you stand.”

“…Alright.”

Zhao DanNi wanted nothing more than to vanish from his sight.

The pressure HuMing gave off was suffocating—so intense, she could hardly breathe.
