The sky had already darkened, leaving only a sliver of the setting sun’s afterglow on the horizon behind the castle. To the west, the sky took on a faint bluish hue.

HuMing and Ye QiuXue each held an ice cream in hand, slowly savoring it as they admired the scenery.

The square before them was packed with people, all seemingly waiting for nightfall.

Because once the night arrived, this very square would beco the stage for a dazzling fireworks display—the signature attraction of the amusent park.

“How was today?”

Seated on a bench, HuMing turned his gaze to the girl beside him.

Ye QiuXue curved her lips into a satisfied smile, raising her phone as she said,

“I’m more than satisfied. Who would’ve thought that our dear HuMing is afraid of heights? If word got out, I bet no one would believe it.”

“Everyone has their weaknesses. What’s so bad about being afraid of heights?” HuMing retorted righteously, though the photos in Ye QiuXue’s phone—of him looking utterly miserable—made the situation undeniably awkward.

Ye QiuXue was in an unusually high-spirited mood today, completely different from her usual deanor at school. Right now, she seed more like an ordinary girl from a regular family, rather than the genius student everyone admired.

That afternoon, when the parade floats passed by, she had excitedly waved at the people on top and even posed for pictures with the costud mascots at the front.

Naturally, HuMing had ended up playing the role of her personal caraman.

Whenever Ye QiuXue wasn’t interacting with him, he spent most of his ti staring blankly into the distance, as if waiting for the hours to pass.

To be honest, HuMing wasn’t particularly interested in the mascots—nor, for that matter, in the amusent park as a whole.

But seeing Ye QiuXue so happy, he figured this wasn’t so bad after all.

“HuMing, thanks for keeping company today.”

“Hm? Why thank ? You’re the one who paid.”

“I can tell you don’t really like this place, but you still stayed with the whole day. I had a lot of fun.” Ye QiuXue wasn’t oblivious—whether HuMing had enjoyed himself or not was clear as day to her.

“Wow, a real detective, huh?”

HuMing wanted to say more, but as they talked, the sky had already turned pitch black. At that mont, lights illuminated the grand castle in the distance, revealing the very sa perforrs they had seen on the parade floats earlier in the day.

They waved to the crowd below, quickly drawing an enthusiastic response from the onlookers.

Ye QiuXue also reached out her hand to wave at them.

Watching her, HuMing felt like he was babysitting a child.

But if possible, he wished Ye QiuXue could indulge in such simple joys more often.

After all, the childhood she had missed out on still needed ti to be nded.

One by one, the surrounding lights flickered off, leaving only the glow of countless phone screens twinkling like scattered stars in the darkness.

Then, suddenly—

From behind the castle, a cascade of fireworks shot into the sky, accompanied by the swell of music.

In front of the castle, a massive fountain transford into a shimring curtain of water, casting the castle beyond into a dreamy, fairy tale-like illusion—almost as if stepping through it would lead straight into a world of wonder.

“So beautiful…” Ye QiuXue murmured in awe.

The once-dark sky was now ablaze with vibrant light.

At that mont, HuMing happened to turn his head toward her.

The girl’s eyes were filled with wonder, her pupils reflecting the fireworks in tiny, flickering specks of light, like a river of stars.

HuMing found himself montarily entranced.

A whole day of boredom had sohow been washed away by this single instant, leaving nothing but a quiet sense of contentnt.

Perhaps it had all been worth it.

Children danced to the rhythm of the music, parents captured the mont on their caras, lovers leaned into each other as they gazed at the fireworks.

Happiness was written on every face.

Ti slipped away unnoticed. The grand, swelling lody softened into a lighthearted tune.

The crowd in front of the castle gradually began to disperse, and at so point, the towering fountain had ceased its ascent.

Glancing at his phone, HuMing looked back at Ye QiuXue.

“It’s getting late. We should head back.”

“Mm.”

Ye QiuXue also checked the ti and agreed.

However, instead of tucking her phone back into her pocket, she turned to HuMing with a suggestion.

“HuMing, let’s take a photo together!”

“Alright.”

After spending the whole day here, they ought to take a picture to commorate the mont. Otherwise, who would believe they had even co?

He pointed toward the fountain behind them.

“There. The castle’s right in the background—let’s hurry before they turn off the lights.”

Ye QiuXue switched her phone cara to the front-facing mode, holding it horizontally and extending her arm to position the shot.

As she did so, she leaned in closer to HuMing.

Their heads were nearly touching.

HuMing could feel her hair brushing against his cheek in the breeze—it tickled a little.

He instinctively raised a hand to scratch his face, but Ye QiuXue’s voice interrupted him.

“HuMing, look at the cara!”

Pulled back to the mont, HuMing shifted his gaze to the phone screen.

The reflection showed the two of them smiling—natural, at ease, perfectly photogenic.

Even a passing photographer couldn’t resist pausing to snap a picture of the beautiful and handso pair.

“Three, two, one—cheese!”

Just as Ye QiuXue pressed the shutter, the fountain behind them surged upward once more.

At the sa ti, another burst of fireworks blood above the castle, their brilliance mirrored in both of their eyes.

Cheers erupted around them, only to fade into quiet soon after.

HuMing couldn’t help but turn around, montarily surprised.

As he did, he caught sight of the photographer who had taken their picture, offering them a small wave before departing with a smile.

Ye QiuXue, on the other hand, was focused on her phone, admiring the photo they had just taken.

Satisfied, she tucked it into her album and imdiately hit the “favorite” button.

To her, this might just be the happiest day of her life so far.

Outside the amusent park, Lan Jun had arrived half an hour early to wait for them.

As soon as HuMing stepped out, he spotted him.

Not long after they got into the car, Ye QiuXue had already fallen asleep in the backseat.

HuMing sat in the passenger seat, propping his chin up as he gazed out the window.

“So? Had fun today?” Lan Jun asked.

“It was alright. More importantly, Ye QiuXue had fun.” HuMing thought back to the mont they took the picture, and his lips curled slightly.

Noticing this, Lan Jun shook his head with a knowing smile.

Now this—this was what a real high schooler looked like. No matter how mature HuMing acted, he was still a student at heart.

But that fleeting smile soon disappeared, replaced by his usual calm expression.

“Still, after walking the dog all day, I bet they think they got what they wanted.”

“So soone really tailed you all day?”

“Pointless effort. After today, I imagine they’ll mark ‘fear of heights’ as my weakness.”

“Tsk tsk, so devious.”

Lan Jun took back what he just thought—HuMing wasn’t just mature.

He was downright cunning, like an old fox.
