As the situation had co to this, HuMing no longer had a reason to refuse Kang Xin.

She clearly wanted to stay by his side. And just as she had said, he had taught her quite a lot—her desire to continue learning wasn’t an unreasonable request.

HuMing could feel the softness of the girl pressed closely against him. At so point, the distance between their faces had shrunk to just a fist’s length. It felt as if, if he leaned in just a little closer, Kang Xin would kiss him.

Not to ntion, their current position was less than ideal—visually, it looked as if she was pinning him down.

There was a certain beauty in the image of a rich woman forcefully pressing down on a kept man.

"You’ve made your case this far. How could I not believe you?"

HuMing sighed. Since Kang Xin had already said so much, it didn’t seem necessary to keep rejecting her.

Besides, she didn’t seem like soone who would hold him back.

When Kang Xin heard his agreent, a faint smile finally surfaced on her always-composed face.

"I won’t let you down."

She quietly moved away from HuMing, stood up, and turned toward the kitchen.

"What do you want for dinner?"

"…Anything’s fine."

HuMing felt a bit awkward about Kang Xin’s sudden shift in deanor. The warmth she had left on his lap still lingered, and the mory of her soft skin was fresh in his mind.

‘That was really dangerous. I was afraid I’d do sothing just now.’

Exhaling, HuMing was about to clear his head when his phone, resting on the table, suddenly vibrated.

He picked it up and answered the call. The person on the other end spoke for a mont, and HuMing’s brows furrowed at first, but soon, they relaxed.

"Alright, I understand. Tell him—I’ll be waiting."

Standing at the kitchen doorway, Kang Xin watched HuMing. Seeing him hang up, she finally asked,

"Did sothing happen?"

"Yeah, the investigation on that jade pendant has finally made progress. This ti, the other party is coming to us."

HuMing looked out the window, taking in the scenery outside.

"Are you leaving?"

When HuMing inford the Han family of his decision, their reactions were filled with shock.

Han LiTian, however, remained relatively expressionless, only furrowing his brows as if deep in thought.

Han YunXi, standing beside HuMing with a worried look, spoke up,

"Brother, can’t you stay?"

Hearing her words, HuMing reached out to gently ruffle her hair, smiling lightly.

"I have sothing important to take care of this ti, so I can’t stay. But I promise you, once it’s done, I’ll be back."

Han YunXi pursed her lips, looking conflicted.

She knew that what HuMing was involved in was dangerous. Just dealing with Han ShuYi’s situation had already put his life at risk multiple tis—who knew what kind of people he would face next?

But at the sa ti, she understood that for HuMing to reclaim his identity, he had to walk this path.

No matter what choice he made, she would always worry.

Zhou WenLi gazed at HuMing. She opened her mouth but couldn't find the words. The matter with Han ShuYi left her feeling deeply guilty toward him.

If she had been a more competent mother, perhaps things wouldn’t have escalated to this point.

"Alright, let’s eat. It’s not like HuMing is leaving forever, so don’t look so gloomy." Han LiTian ushered everyone to the table, though when his gaze t HuMing’s, it was clear he had sothing to say to him.

During dinner, the atmosphere seed to return to what it had once been—before Han ShuYi, when the family was still harmonious.

Zhou WenLi took the initiative to place food onto HuMing’s plate, while Han LiTian gave him various warnings about staying safe.

Han YunXi silently watched this scene, her lips curling into a small smile.

This was the ho she had always dread of. Seeing it once again—it was wonderful.

After dinner, HuMing and Han LiTian took a walk in the back garden, while Han YunXi and Zhou WenLi went to the kitchen to prepare so fruit.

Both won knew that HuMing and Han LiTian had things to discuss.

"You don’t want the Han family’s help? Is it because the person behind this has too much influence?"

Han LiTian voiced his thoughts directly. HuMing didn’t deny it—he nodded in response.

"It’s the Gu family from the capital."

"The… Gu family?!"

Han LiTian’s eyes widened in unmasked shock, though he quickly composed himself.

"In this matter, the Han family could still support you. We may not be as powerful as the Gu family, but—"

"Dad, let’s leave it at this. I haven’t uncovered everything yet, and if you step in recklessly, it might affect the Han family… and YunXi. Besides, I want to handle this on my own."

Han LiTian stared at HuMing, taking in his determined expression. It left him both dazed and gratified.

In the end, he rely nodded, not pressing the issue further.

HuMing had his own plans. As his father, all he could do was support him.

"HuMing, no matter how chaotic it gets out there, the Han family will always be your ho. If you’re hurt or exhausted, co back."

HuMing halted in his steps, lifting his gaze to the middle-aged man before him.

Whether it was after Han ShuYi’s return or his own ‘resurrection’, this man had never stopped treating him well.

He hadn’t favored Han ShuYi just because he was his biological son, nor had he resented HuMing for using them to deal with Han ShuYi.

From start to finish, he had protected the Han family as a father should.

Han LiTian always thought of himself as an unqualified father, but to HuMing, he had provided the fatherly love he had always lacked.

HuMing was grateful.

He bowed deeply to Han LiTian and said sincerely,

"Dad, thank you for taking care of all these years."

"We’re family. No need for all that. Co on, they’re probably waiting for us."

HuMing said his goodbyes to the orphanage children. Though they were reluctant to see him go, they were sensible and didn’t try to hold him back.

Kang Xin, having packed her things, stood quietly, watching the children as if lost in thought.

She hadn’t expected to leave this place so soon.

In the blink of an eye, more than a decade had passed. Now, she was about to part ways with the city she had lived in for so long.

She turned to look at HuMing’s back, her heart firm in its decision.

‘I’ll follow HuMing.’

A few days later, on a clear and sunny afternoon—

At a certain café, HuMing t with an elderly man with silver hair.

The man introduced himself as the Gu family’s steward.

"May I see your jade pendant?"

HuMing took out the pendant his grandfather had left him and placed it on the table. The old steward examined it carefully, his emotions growing increasingly intense.

"Yes… this is it! This is the Second Old Master’s pendant! The old master has been searching for it for years!"

The old man’s hands trembled, his breathing uneven—HuMing was genuinely concerned he might collapse right then and there.

But the next mont, the steward suddenly grabbed HuMing’s hand and asked urgently,

"You… What is your relation to the Second Old Master?"

"I’m his grandson."

"Finally… Finally, we’ve found you. Now, the old master can rest easy…" Tears welled up in the old man’s eyes.

HuMing narrowed his eyes, deep in thought.

But soon, he spoke.

"Old sir, to be honest, I don’t trust you. I don’t even know if you’re really from the Gu family in the capital."

"It’s fine. Once you co back with , you’ll know for sure!"

The old steward gripped his hand tightly, unwilling to let go.

HuMing, however, simply smiled.

"Then let’s see what the Gu family in the JingDu is really like."
