My brain was too fogged up and tired to even try to comprehend what Evangel was doing.
Why wasn’t she claiming her victory and taking the reward!?
At this point, Professor Snape began to slowly shift his gaze up, scanning everyone’s legs with his eyes.
Even though I still couldn’t see his expression, his trembling legs told enough.
To be fair, if I was a teacher in his situation, I’d be pissed off as well.
Even if Evangel didn’t step forward now, Professor Snape would look up soon enough and realize she was the winner anyway.
So, why was she standing still!?
Where was the smart, ambitious, and intelligent Evangel I had read about in the book?
Why was she doing this?
Countless questions flooded my brain, but no answers appeared, causing a headache to take shape within.
Giving up on trying to understand her actions, I grabbed her shoulder and stepped forward, dragging her behind .
Surprisingly, she didn’t resist, simply allowing herself to be lugged forward, and her arm went completely limp, succumbing to the grip of my palm.
Like a boxing referee announcing the winner of a fight, I raised her arm, which had been glowing blue during my use of elental sight.
Then, in a loud and assertive voice, I looked at Professor Snape and announced.
"Our team found it."
Imdiately, Professor Snape’s head flicked up from the ground to , revealing a sowhat annoyed expression, and his back straightened.
Around us, students imdiately began whispering to each other.
"Did they actually find it!?"
"No, you idiot. No one else stepped up to claim the win, so they did...DAMN IT, I SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT"
"What a bunch of frauds, trying to take soone else’s victory because of selfishness."
" *TSK* Professor Snape will tell them off, won’t he?"
Gazing at Evangel’s raised arm with his eyebrows raised, Professor Snape stayed silent for a mont before speaking, attracting everyone’s attention.
"Congratulations, you found one.. of the hundreds of particles I hid."
Surprisingly, Professor Snape didn’t seem that angry as he simply fake-applauded for us, ignoring every student’s surprised expression, and continued in a sowhat sarcastic tone.
"Your reward is imdiate acceptance to the Imperial Class A. Congrats, you two will be stuck with for the rest of the year."
As Professor Snape turned around and walked away, tens of whispers imdiately sounded while everyone gazed at our backs.
"Did...they really win? Did their bluff work!?"
"The princess and prince didn’t win!?"
"Damn...I told you this was a ga of luck. They probably just found it floating around sowhere by pure chance."
"Yeah, right, this elental sight thing is bullshit, just a disguise for luck."
"Who even are they?"
Hearing dozens of unknown voices echo throughout my ears and worsen my headache, I instinctively turned to my side to hide my face.
But, when I did, Evangel was there, facing and imdiatly making eye contact.
For a re second, I saw her normally frozen and motionless snow-white pupils dethaw and race around her eyelids.
Then, in a softer voice than usual, she opened her mouth and said.
"You do care."
All the sounds around disappeared as she spoke her words, making it feel like it was just and her.
Pausing, I copied her, tilting my head confusedly, and asked.
"Care about what?"
Seeing no response from Evangel and her expression returning to emotionless, I sighed and continued.
"Anyway, look what you did. You just gave a free spot in the Imperial class. Aren’t you angry?"
However, before Evangel could respond, I suddenly felt soone’s arm grip my right shoulder and pull backward.
"What was that about ’not trying’ ?"
Before I could answer, another pressure gripped my left shoulder, dragging in the other direction.
"Oh, so you were ’relaxing’ during the competition, right?"
It felt as if I were a ga of tug of war, being pulled in both directions simaltenously.
Swiping the hands off my shoulder, I turned around, facing Mira and Zeke, and pointed behind.
"It was all he-"
Pausing mid-sentence, I looked backward, only to see Evangel gone.
Patting on the shoulder, Zeke walked past and said.
"Yeah, yeah, pack it up. Next class starts in two minutes."
"...there’s another class...?"
Currently, I was exhausted to the point where I could quite literally fall asleep while standing...but now I had another class!?
Sighing, I turned to Mira, hoping Zeke was joking, but she simply nodded her head and pointed to the exit of the rainforest.
"..."
Walking side-by-side with Mira, I endured countless questions about elental sight, trying to pit maneuver them every ti without giving an answer.
"How did you find the mana?"
"I told you I didn’t find it; Eva-, the other girl found it."
"Then, how did she find it?"
"I have no idea."
"Aren’t you on her team, though? Shouldn’t you know?"
"We ford a team after she found the particle..."
"...so you’re telling she found the particle and then decided to make a team with you for no reason whatsoever?"
"If you must know, my negotiation skills are quite good."
"What were you doing atop the covering on the first floor, then?"
"I was looking for the particle."
"Well, correct if I’m wrong, but wasn’t your ’partner’ considerably above you at that mont?"
"You saw that?"
"Answer the question."
"Yes, she was. The particle was on the rainforest floor, and she found it right above , which was why I was on the covering, trying to speak and convince her."
"Why did you tell us you hadn’t won then?"
"At that point, I hadn’t; she only agreed to let join a team with her after."
"If she found the particle on the rainforest floor, and then Snape’s voice echoed, why did she go down to the first floor to talk to you instead of going to the Professor?"
"I don’t know; why don’t you go ask her?"
"I will. Also, why did you guys take so l-"
Speeding up and sliding open the door to prevent any further questions, I walked into our next classroom, ignoring the countless agitated and passive-aggressive gazes on .
