An awakened.
From those inhumane reflexes alone, I could tell Liana wasn't just a normal bartender...no normal human could have reflexes that fast.
While I reevaluated my view of the seemingly kind and caring girl in front of , Liana sighed and sat down across from .
Alternating glances between the piping hot plate of food in front of and my face, she eventually asked, breaking the silence.
"If you're not hungry, I'll gladly take the plate."
Staying true to her words, Liana reached out her hands and grabbed the edges of my plate...however she didn't make any attempts to pull my plate toward her.
Was she trying to get a reaction out of or sothing?
Sighing, I tilted my head at her and closed my eyes.
The terrible sll of the humans around was filling my nose. My horns could be revealed at any ti if soone decided to pull down my hood or a sudden gust of wind appeared.
To top it all off, the protagonist of the book and my future killer was only a couple of steps away.
It was simply too much.
Pushing the plate in front of toward Liana, I stood up and replied.
"I've decided not to do it."
Since Liana had already gone through the fuss of trying to ensure my safety, I wasn't going to make her unnecessarily worry.
However, just as I was about to take a step forward, I felt my entire body freeze.
I couldn't move.
It wasn't an emotional or physical problem.
I simply couldn't move.
When I told my brain to move my leg forward, nothing happened.
Then, out of the corner of my eyes, I spotted Liana looking at with a fork in her hand.
Scooping a forkful of scrambled eggs, Liana lifted her utensil and said.
"It's called Daze, a pretty neat trick, don't you think?"
An assassin.
Liana had a dagger-related gift, giving her the special stat, "Daze," instead of the unique stat, "Tempo," which sword-related gifts received.
Depending on the level of her enemy, she could paralyze them or a certain part of their body for a small amount of ti.
She was an enlightened.
As I felt my body slowly return to my control, as my leg began to twitch when I commanded it to move, Lian pointed her fork at the seat across from her.
Reluctantly, I sat back down, gazing at the ground, waiting for her to speak.
After a couple of monts of silence, Liana finally asked, her mouth full of scrambled eggs and bacon.
"Really, you're not gonna eat anything? Trust , the food at the academy is way worse, so savor this while you can."
Shaking my head, I grinned and looked up at the ceiling.
That was why she had cared so much for .
She currently attended Glaive, making her my "senior."
If I hadn't shown her Glaive acceptance letter, would she have acted the sa way?
Interacting with her anymore could be dangerous...
I would probably be seeing her around a lot as we both attended Glaive
And, the more I talk with soone, the more likely they are to stumble upon my secrets.
When I talk to soone more, my guard gradually falls, and I start to open up more. So, no matter how hard I try to hide my secrets, they'll eventually co out.
When she finds out about my horns and my role as the demon king, will she act the sa way?
"I'll be going now as I've decided not to take the bounty.. See you at the academy."
Paying no attention to her confused expression, I got up and walked away, my pitch-black and blood-red pen laying dormant in my hand.
As Liana sat there starstruck, I heard another voice sound from behind .
The voice was elegant and smooth, flowing effortlessly through the air like silk unraveling. Each word was asured and deliberate, wasting no ti.
Though emotionless, the tones of somberness and lancholy were hidden deep within the voice.
However, the most shocking thing of all, and what caused to halt, was the sll.
I could sll the terrible odor of one human behind .
But...beside that, there was another sll.
A pleasant one.
The air behind carried the rich, golden scent of vanilla and cinnamon, wrapping around like a soft embrace.
It felt as if I had returned to my childhood, eating freshly baked cookies and drinking a warm glass of milk under a Christmas tree with no worries.
For the first ti, in a while, my body felt at peace.
My mind was free of those painful and bitter thoughts, instead flooded by warm and happy ones.
"Excuse , I'd like to accept this help request."
Regaining my composure, I shook my head and walked forward without turning around.
Of course, she would sll good, even to a demon.
After all, she was the protagonist.
It was weird though.
I knew she was currently miserable and depressed...so why did her voice and scent make feel so comfortable and cheerful?
Pushing open the building's doors, I rapidly walked through the town, cutting through carriages and roads to save ti.
Within a couple of minutes, I had already arrived at the town gate, where I spotted a familiar motionless carriage.
To be specific, the emblem on the stationary carriage caught my attention. I saw it yesterday when I was scanning the bulletin board for possible quests.
Taking one last glance behind , I walked across the plains with my baggy black cloak shielding from the sun until finally arriving at the forest.
The protagonist's job was to escort a doctor through a forest so that he could safely acquire dicinal herbs.
And, from my book knowledge, I knew the general area where the herbs were located.
There was also another person, who had been living inside this forest for months, that would know the location of the herbs and the doctor.
Climbing a tree, I jumped from branch to branch until finally so familiar bushes with ruby-red berries ca into sight.
However, preventing from moving any further into the forest, a sudden sll poured through the air, surging into my nose.
It was a horrid sll.
