’Iron Spike Field.’

With the wave of his hand, Marcus cast a tier seven iron magic spell and hundred-ter-tall spires of iron that ended in sharp points sprouted out of the ground.

Lyra had asked him to slow Gronex’s charge down however he could. Recomnding that he only use tier seven or higher magic since anything lower simply would not have the range or power necessary.

"Well, that didn’t last long." Marcus grumbled.

His iron spike field was sliced through by just two mana infused claw swipes from Gronex. It was a display of the imnse power of a high-level dragon.

Still, Marcus did not beco disheartened. There was still so distance between them.

’Let’s try this.’

’Umbral fissure.’

’Star light rain.’

With both of his arms held high, a great flash of light shot into the sky from Marcus’ hands.

At the sa ti, he slamd his right foot into the air below and a dark crack ford in a straight line in front of him.

From above, a shower of searing light fell down, while below a beach filled with otherworldly creatures made of darkness opened up.

Both of these spells had the power to wipe out small cities, but Gronex only needed to stop for a mont to deal with them.

A powerful shield of magma ford around him, and he charged through Marcus’ magic that evaporated whenever it touched his defenses.

’I’m really going to run out of mana at this point, but whatever.’

Surging with power Marcus brought the formula for a spell he had never cast before to mind.

"Pulsar Shell."

The mont that he finished the casting of the tier nine light magic spell; a luminescence of extraordinary brightness surrounded him.

The night sky that had been revealed by the earlier clashes of the battle lit up as if the sun had suddenly appeared.

This was the strongest defensive spell currently in Marcus’ repertoire.

Its intense light also served as a weapon. Any that tried to get close would find themselves battered by radiance capable of burning away almost anything.

Unfortunately, Gronex was unbothered by the display of magic. He was an existence that could confidently charge into a tier nine spell.

’I don’t think that I’ll win this ga of chicken, but I’m just stalling for ti.’ Marcus thought as he transford his body into light and lded with his spell.

In a flash he shot forward and almost instantaneously he t Gronex who had never stopped charging towards his position.

Magma and light clashed for but a single mont before a blinding explosion erupted between the two of them.

For Gronex, he was only shoved back a few kiloters by the blast.

Marcus on the other hand was blown away at a blistering speed. The fact that he was still mostly in one piece was a miracle and in large part thanks to the defensive capability of his pulsar shell spell.

Still, the wind pressure on him was heavy and he felt it shaving away at him.

Once he had regained his bearings after the impact, he instantly turned intangible and channeled spiritual energy through him to change the direction of his montum.

’Fuck that hurt! But I can’t call it a quits now. I need to get back in there.’

Opening a Dark portal, Marcus returned to the battlefield and found that Gronex was just recovering himself.

He had only been gone for a couple of seconds, though he was grateful that their opponent had not imdiately gone back on the attack. Right now, Quillon was concentrating, and Lyra’s skills and abilities were not geared towards protection.

Perhaps she could have hidden him with so illusions, but that would have only gone so far.

"I’m glad to see that you’ve returned so soon. I thought that that might have been the end for you." Gronex said, a sinister grin that exposed his razor-sharp teeth forming on his scaley lips.

Obviously, he would have been disappointed if one of his playmates had dropped out of the battle after proving themselves to be so entertaining.

"Well, I wouldn’t want to ruin our fun after you dragged us into this." Marcus replied sarcastically.

Considering that he wanted to buy so ti, he was fine with conversing instead of fighting. His last barrage of spells had put a major strain on his mana. He was sitting at just above ten percent of his normal capacity now and it was not going to be recovering fast enough. Lyra had warned him to save his last charge of Ultimate Refresh, so he was not going to receive any more miraculous replenishnts.

"Don’t think that I can’t see through you. I may not know where she is, but I can feel that tricksy fox scampering around. As for your friend with the sword, whatever he is charging up won’t be enough against . And the little wolf that fled high into the sky, she’s impressive, but too young to do much to . Perhaps in a couple of decades she will be able to provide a true challenge to ."

Of course, Gronex’s musing here would only an sothing if they survived this battle. Sothing that was far from a guarantee.

When he had finished say what he wanted to, the monstrous Lava Dragon opened his mouth wide and a stream of blindingly fast magma erupted from his mouth.

He had compressed his breath attack more than normal and it surged towards Marcus at a truly impeccable pace.

’Don’t avoid it. Just stay where you are.’

Hearing Lyra’s voice in his head over telepathy, Marcus did as she said despite the imminent danger to his life.

They shared a bond that spanned two lives, so he was going to put his faith in her.

Right before being consud by molten rock, a strong signal from Marcus’ life detection pinged.

A mont later one of Lyra’s clones appeared in front of him and imdiately swapped place with the real one. This was exactly what she had been waiting for.
