When Sisi and Shi Lei rushed to the hospital, Xiao Zhang and Xiao Liu were still in ergency care, with two police officers accompanying them.

The middle-aged officer was Captain Wan from the city’s criminal investigation team. He was a comrade of Tian Guanghua, and after returning from the army, he beca a police officer at the Kyoto City Public Security Bureau. He gradually rose to the position of the head of the criminal investigation team. Sisi would turn to him with any issues, so the two had a decent personal relationship.

The other officer seed younger, probably Captain Wan’s assistant.

"Captain Wan, what exactly happened?" Sisi asked as soon as she arrived at the hospital.

Captain Wan solemnly recounted the events. His narration was calm and without fluctuation, but Sisi and Shi Lei listened with growing indignation, and even the young officer was visibly agitated.

Xiao Zhang and Xiao Liu were discovered unconscious by farrs working in the fields in the suburbs. Xiao Zhang’s right hand had been severed, and his body bore multiple wounds. Xiao Liu had many injuries as well, but the most severe trauma was to her lower body; she had been sexually assaulted by at least two n, though thankfully, neither was in life-threatening condition.

"Beasts, they’re all beasts!" Sisi cursed angrily.

"Who would want to harm Brother Zhang and Xiao Liu like this? How could they be so cruel?" Shi Lei was visibly shaken, the ugly reality terrifying this boy who had not yet left his ivory tower.

"Judging from the brutality of this group, they should be repeat offenders and may have even been involved in murder. However, it seems the culprits only intended to warn the victims, or else they wouldn’t have just severed the man’s right hand and then perford so basic bandaging," Captain Wan concluded.

After clearing his throat, Captain Wan continued, "So, think carefully. Do the victims have any known enemies, or have they offended anyone? This will give us direction for the pursuit."

Revenge?

Sisi beca more convinced that this incident was related to the recent exhibition, which had achieved significant impact, stirring public controversy.

The officials at Yinong Company had given multiple statents in the dia, asserting that their products were problem-free. However, the bloody photos presented as evidence nullified their statents and even triggered public resentnt. Many justice-driven individuals wrote articles condemning Yinong Company, creating a significant uproar.

Xiao Zhang and Sisi were planning to take these photos on a national tour and continue exposing them in the dia to heighten public pressure.

Yinong Company must have been enraged and sent people to warn Xiao Zhang, right?

Xiao Liu might have just been unlucky, happening to be with Xiao Zhang, plus she was also an employee of Green Ho, leading her to be abducted by those thugs and subjected to inhumane abuse.

Sisi felt a burning rage inside her, wanting to rush to province F and destroy Yinong Company.

She forced herself to remain calm; the most important thing now was to comfort Xiao Zhang and Xiao Liu. These two young people had suffered significant harm, and without proper guidance, their lives might be forever changed.

She couldn’t bear to see two vibrant young individuals fall into despair because of this.

Sisi voiced her suspicions, convinced it was people from Yijia Company who did this. After Captain Wan and his team docunted the statents, he privately told Sisi that such a case would be difficult to solve, and even if they caught the culprits, it might not amount to anything, advising her to be careful as well.

Sisi understood what Captain Wan ant; repeat offenders like these were probably hired by Yinong Company. When the ti ca, they would simply refuse to confess, and after serving a short sentence, they’d be out again. Jail ti was routine for seasoned criminals like them.

No matter, if the law can’t serve justice, she would personally avenge Xiao Zhang and Xiao Liu. After all, the higher-ups had already said she could handle it at her own discretion.

Xiao Zhang and Xiao Liu had been moved to a general ward, and Sisi privately paid to book them a single room.

Sisi inquired with the doctors about their condition—Xiao Zhang’s right hand had been severed clean at the wrist, and too much ti had passed to reattach it, essentially making Xiao Zhang disabled and possibly unable to continue his beloved journalism work.

As for Xiao Liu, the sexual assault by three n had severely traumatized her, and it was uncertain whether such a young woman could overco this ordeal.

"Doctor, could a psychologist be involved in the treatnt? Cost is not an issue," Sisi said.

Xiao Liu’s attending physician looked at Sisi in surprise. In this era, families who actively sought psychological treatnt were rare, as there was a common misconception that only those with ntal illnesses would see a psychologist.

There were similar situations before where he kindly suggested psychiatric help to the patient’s family, only to be scolded. So he had not brought up the psychologist earlier, not wanting to be yelled at again.

Unexpectedly, the young woman before him had such insight, knowing that for this patient’s situation, involving a psychologist would be best for a robust recovery.

"Certainly, we have qualified psychologists at our hospital, and they’re quite good. I’ll arrange it for the patient," the doctor gladly agreed, feeling happy to have such understanding family mbers.

Xiao Liu’s parents and family had arrived, deeply shaken upon learning what had happened to their daughter.

Sisi was filled with guilt. Truthfully, Xiao Zhang and Xiao Liu were involved with Green Ho due to its influence, and as the person responsible for Green Ho, she bore undeniable responsibility.

"Mr. Liu, Mrs. Liu, I am truly sorry. I will personally cover the dical expenses," Sisi said, bowing before them.

’Smack’

Mrs. Liu suddenly jumped up and slapped Sisi, leaving five red fingerprints on her left cheek, stinging with pain.

"Do you think ’sorry’ is enough? You’re a jinx! You’re the reason my daughter is hard. She used to be so obedient, and your crooked organization tricked her! Coming ho so late every day, of course sothing happened! You owe my daughter!"

Mrs. Liu cried while shouting at Sisi, and the rest of the Liu family gave her hateful glares, blaming Sisi entirely for what happened to Xiao Liu. Seeing Mrs. Liu seed like she wanted to charge at Sisi again, Sisi took a few steps back to avoid the raging Mrs. Liu.

Sisi felt sorry for Xiao Liu but not for the Liu family. While she could understand Mrs. Liu’s grief, it didn’t an she would obediently endure the verbal and physical abuse.

Everyone was shocked by Mrs. Liu’s slap; Shi Lei was the first to react, rushing like a gust of wind to Sisi’s side and standing in front of her, shouting angrily:

"You’re being unreasonable, bla Mr. He for what happened to Xiao Liu? What gives you the right to hit Mr. He?"

"Why shouldn’t I hit her? She made my good daughter do unpaid work, coming back ho so late every day. Who else should I bla when sothing went wrong?" Mrs. Liu shouted angrily.

Sisi frowned and said, "Mrs. Liu, our Green Ho is a non-profit organization, so many employees volunteer their help. Like your daughter Xiao Liu and this young man Xiao Shi, both are enthusiastic college students. I do provide them with so allowances, though not as part of a salary. Also, I have never required my employees to stay past six thirty in the evening. If circumstances require working late, I personally see them ho. Therefore, if Xiao Liu was returning ho late daily, it should not be related to our Green Ho."
