To be honest, the Shi Family’s als aren’t bad at all.

Since Shi Suifeng has already gone to the army, there’s no need for the family to hide anything. The porridge in the bowl is so thick it can almost stand a chopstick upright, and the mixed flour pancakes are much softer and finer than the previous corn buns.

Were it not dinner ti when eating dry food isn’t worth it, surely the yellow and white rice would’ve appeared too.

But...

What does any of this have to do with at?

What does it have to do with white flour?

White flour buns on the table are simply an overwhelming advantage.

Especially for Chu River, who bit into one without a care—wow, the juice imdiately seeped through the soft bun skin and left shiny grease on her lips...

Around the dining table, everyone stared at each other.

After a long pause, the two children beside them swallowed their saliva.

The eldest grandson burst into tears.

"Grandma, I want to eat buns too..."

The eldest niece, being of lower status in the family hierarchy, gazed longingly at Chu River.

As Chu River ate the palm-sized bun, its fragrant aroma wafted around her mouth while she shook her head and sighed in pretended sympathy:

"Oh, Mom, don’t bla for eating alone. It’s mainly because I’m new here, and there’s no food for at ho. I really don’t want to burden everyone."

"Shi Suifeng has already told that eldest and second brother, well, you know... And Mom, you haven’t even enjoyed it. Since I’m here now, there’s even more reason not to stress you."

"So I could only prepare my own food."

...

The words were filled with care, but the reality is, who wouldn’t want to bear the burden of white flour buns?

The two adult n at the table swallowed their saliva and finally decided to engage with this newly arrived sister-in-law:

"Sister-in-law, about those buns..."

Chu River was about to finish one bun, while the other was in her left hand, drawing everyone’s gaze.

"Oh, I initially bought these buns for everyone to eat, but Mom made a good point. My rations aren’t from here anyway, so I’m not eating the family’s food."

"Mom, and brothers and sisters-in-law, rest assured, I won’t eat the family’s food until the ration issue is sorted out, making this poor family’s situation even worse."

Zhao Xiuhua turned green in the face.

Never expected that the girl from the Old Chu Family was so cunning, actually hiding food at ho.

She flashed a warm but slightly scolding smile: "Look at you, such a sensitive child. You’re already part of our family, why talk about burden or not... co on, eat freely, eat whatever you want."

"Really?" Chu River looked surprised and delighted: "Really, I can eat freely?"

Zhao Xiuhua nodded energetically: "Eat, eat whatever you like!"

Dealing with soone who eats soft rather than hard, Zhao Xiuhua had an idea.

However, before she could formulate the plan, she saw Chu River push the bun in her hand forward:

"Mom, you are too good to . Here, I won’t eat this bun for nothing, I’ll leave it for you. You decide who gets it."

Zhao Xiuhua’s lips curled up, finally showing the pride of a victor, as she slowly and resolutely accepted the bun.

Now, everyone’s gaze was focused on her hand once more.

...

anwhile, Chu River glanced at the few untouched bowls of porridge and mixed flour pancakes, sinking down one bowl in a gulp.

—Sigh.

The lunch had been quite satisfying, the at solid enough, but it was all greasy, and looking back now, maybe a little too rich, making tonight’s lighter food just right.

She gulped down the porridge, emptying the bowl.

Then grabbed a pancake, eating it while it’s hot is most delicious, gone within a few bites.

anwhile, over there are five adults and two children—a single bun is really hard to split.

Having finally broken free from the entanglent of the grandchildren, Zhao Xiuhua hadn’t figured out how to allocate it and couldn’t help but worry again that one bun was too few. Pondering how to get more from Chu River’s hidden stash, she was suddenly stunned—

"Are you a pig?!"

She jumped up directly!

Outrageous! What on earth is the Old Chu Family raising, a starving ghost!

With just a brief mont of distraction, all the porridge bowls in front of five adults were empty, and only three mixed flour pancakes remained.

Damn, what speed was this eating at? Did the Old Chu Family starve soone into stunned nerves?

Before these questions could be answered, Chu River had already reached out and took the remaining three pancakes from the basin.

To the two children, one each small one, the remaining bigger one, was devouring half of it.

With her mouth full and the half pancake in her hand nearly gone, she finally looked up, seemingly not hearing Zhao Xiuhua’s exclamatory words, and graciously added: "Mom, you all hurry to eat!"
