’Doesn’t he understand the aning of trauma? I’ve been traumatized by the rogues, and he still wants to use as bait for whatever he is planning? Normally, I would never risk my life like this, but Caroline and Lydia have been nothing but nice to . But should I face death because of them?... What the hell am I even thinking? They are in that position because of ... Damon is a devil.’ I sighed, my shoulders slumped.
"Since we have settled this... I have sowhere else to be." His brooding gaze swept over lazily before he strode out of the room.
He stopped as he was about to reach for the door. "I’ll let you know when it’s ti. Rest now." Without wasting more ti, he walked out.
My body slumped on the couch. I buried my head between my legs. ’I’ve been reduced to nothing but fish bait.’ I cried inwardly. ’Heartless psycho.’
...
(Third person POV)
Damon walked out of his room with a serious expression; his cold eyes turned into a calculative one.
"You are being too intimate with Ember, Damon. This is so uncalled for. How could you go back on your promise?" Beowulf paced in the back of his mind.
"You didn’t say anything when I was there. You just don’t want to admit it. But I never went back on my promise. I know you made promise never to touch her. But the irony is, she’s the only girl we can touch."
Beowulf growled in denial.
"Trust , White. You know we are in a precarious situation right now. I want to honour her mory. I really do." His voice softened with sadness. "But I’m the last Lycan. I need an heir to continue my bloodline as soon as possible."
"Well, that’s just an excuse so you can do whatever you want with Ember. I knew it. I should have killed her earlier." He growled painfully.
Damon’s steps faltered. His veins bulged, and his jaw clenched. "Beowulf! War is coming. I need to secure my bloodline before it cos. You don’t need to tell you what happened the last ti. This is my duty, and I believe ’she’ would want to do it."
"Think about it. If I breed pups with Ember, I can stall the need to mark a mate. Even if it makes us weaker. I’m willing to make that sacrifice." His chest heaved heavily.
Beowulf remained quiet, too mad to reply to him.
"And we can also find out the reason why we were able to touch her. She’s our only way to get out from the pressure of getting a mate," Damon said with gritted teeth.
"I know you are right, Damon..."
"Alpha." Alaric’s voice rang behind him, cutting off Beowulf’s words.
Damon turned around. "Beta." He teased, but there was no amusent in his eyes.
Getting to where Damon was, Alaric paused, gauging his emotions. "You must really have it rough, buddy. I heard what happened between you and Alpha Allison." His voice was solemn.
Damon turned around and strode through the hallway. Alaric had no problem matching his pace.
"It is what it is. And I want you to get soone to investigate Alpha Allison. Everything and anything she does has to be reported back to ."
"Why?" Alaric’s brows furrowed.
"Because..." Damon stopped, turning around to face him. "Because it was Alpha Allison who did everything—the locket, and the poisoning."
"Wasn’t that done by her maid?"
"No. The maid took the fall for Alpha Allison," his lips tugged in a scowl. A look of sinister terror crossed through his face. "Before Ember passed out in the cell the other day, she ntioned she had seen soone. Al... I believe she wanted to say Allison. Which ans Ember’s injuries were caused by her." Damon’s fist clenched tightly.
"But there are a lot of uncertainties in this. I have investigated the missing locket. Alpha Allison had been to your room that particular day. Although we know she’s the culprit, we can’t act right now. Not with the council of elders monitoring us."
"That’s why I had to let her go, even when she owes my revenge. But I want to know what she put in that wine—her intentions and her desires." Damon stepped closer, face to face with Alaric.
"We might need to get rid of Alpha Allison. She’s becoming a pain in the ass," he added, his eyes flickering with seething fury.
"But that would be difficult. The elders are adamant that you take Alpha Allison as your mate. The only way out of this is to find enough evidence to prove she did all of those cris. But I believe she must have tied all the loose ends." Alaric’s green eyes narrowed slightly at the thought.
"I know. That’s why we have to push her to make more mistakes. She ca to my territory and killed my prisoner. She knew the council of elders was watching, and that I can’t lay a finger on her... without strong evidence. But if I should confirm that she was the one who clawed Ember, I will disintegrate her from the surface of the earth. I don’t care about the repercussions." Damon clicked his tongue in anger.
He turned, walking down the hallway.
Alaric bit his lower lip. "It seems like Ember holds a special place in your heart, considering how you’ve been treating her lately. And the fact that you might go against the council of elders just for her shows how much you care."
"Wrong." He growled. He didn’t know when it escaped his lips. "I just don’t like others touching what’s mine. Since Alpha Allison hurt Ember, I’ll make her pay for it, so she knows next ti not to touch things that don’t belong to her!"
Alaric nodded his head. "But you are going to use her as bait to fish the rogues out."
"That is different. I’m doing it for her own good." Damon’s voice lowered.
