Silence stretched in the air, before Lydia inhaled sharply. Caroline had a look of fear and concern on her face, as she sat opposite .
"Alpha Allison is the daughter of Alpha Derek Greyson of the Crescent Moon pack. Their pack has a good relationship with the Bloodshade pack, so that’s why she could enter our land anyti she wants," Lydia said.
I listened tentatively.
"There has been a rumour of her becoming the Luna of the Bloodshade pack... because of how close she is to him. But when it cos to her personality, she is very strong and well adept in battle. She had been training relentlessly since she set her eyes on Alpha Damon."
"Okay, I see, so she is basically the perfect one to be his Luna. Why is she being called Alpha if she has a father?" I leaned closer, my brows furrowed.
"Because her father is dead, and she is the only child he had before his mate died. And since her death, he had refused to marry again or give birth to another child," Caroline said.
"So is it okay for a woman to beco an Alpha?"
"No, it is not. Actually, this is the first ti a woman has beco one, ruling the pack," Lydia’s voice lowered, as she leaned her head closer to . "But it resulted in bloodshed."
"Bloodshed?"
Caroline bobbed her head, before glancing over her shoulder blade to see if anyone was coming. She turned back to when she was certain we were alone. "Although her father was the late Alpha, the pack refused to be led by a woman. This sparked unrest among the Crescent Moon packs. The only way it was resolved was by challenge. Alpha Allison boldly called the challenge on—a battle to the death," her voice dripped with dread.
I didn’t need to hear the rest of her words to know that Alpha Allison had won the fight.
"A lot of werewolves took her challenge, but they were all defeated and killed by her. She showed no rcy, even when they had resigned in submission," Lydia bit her lips.
’So she isn’t the type to show rcy.’ I understood her reasons for silencing the challengers—even if they had submitted, they might cause an uproar in the future. And by not showing rcy, she had established a solid reign, one that would make her be feared. Thus, she was able to control the arrogant and proud werewolves that believe brutality is power.
"So you must try not to cross paths with her. She might look nice to you, but I bet she is already thinking of a hundred ways to skin you alive." Caroline’s worried voice made snap out of my thoughts.
I turned to her, I grabbed her hand before giving her a squeeze. "I’ll be fine. You don’t need to worry about ."
F**k, I’ll be screwed if I don’t tread carefully around her. Right now, I had ruffled her fur in the wrong way. I bet she won’t let this go just like that.
"Thank you guys for the heads-up." I forced a smile. I felt shivers rushed down my spine at the thought of what she could really do to .
"And..." Lydia’s words were interrupted as the door behind Caroline flung open.
Caroline and Lydia scrambled to their feet, as Theo stood by the door. I rose up, then bowed my head slightly to him.
His hazel eyes glared at from behind the glasses, sharp and cold, like he was asuring my worth and finding it lacking. "Co with ," he commanded before he turned around, walking away.
To say I was stunned was an understatent. ’What the hell is wrong with these werewolves dudes? They think they can order around?’
I turned to Caroline and Lydia, but still, they were baring their necks.
"He is already gone." I tugged at Lydia’s sleeve.
She looked at with a furrowed brow. "You should get going now. Don’t make him wait." She moved her eyes to the door, indicating I should leave.
I wanted to talk, but a cold glare from her made shut my mouth. "Okay, fine. I’ll see you guys later."
Saying that, I hastened my footsteps to catch up with him. My heart was pumping faster as my steps turned into a jog.
"Hey, why did you ask to co with you?" I gasped for air.
He stopped, he turned to , before pushing his glasses back. "I’m not ’hey’. You will address as Gamma Theo." He narrowed his gaze at .
I rolled my eyes inwardly at him. "Gamma Theo."
"Good. My father, Alpha Damon, requested your presence," he said snappily. He walked away, as if he didn’t want to have any conversation with .
"Oh. So tell , how is Alpha Damon your father?" My curiosity got the best of .
"Don’t talk to , you bloody breeder." His chest rumbled.
My steps faltered at his words. ’Bloody breeder? That bastard son of a b*tch just called that?’
"Don’t you know that’s offensive?" The words slipped out of my mouth.
He scoffed. "I don’t see how that is offensive, when it is exactly what you are."
"Okay, you are right. I’m a bloody breeder—one that belongs to your father." I sneered behind him.
"I wonder what he saw in you, that made him buy you." He stopped, glaring at as if he wanted to skin alive. "I an, you don’t even qualify as a breeder. You look nothing but a walking skeleton. How would you be able to give a pup?"
I walked closer to him, my burning gaze fixated on his narrowed one. "You know what? You are also right. I do look like a walking skeleton. If I disgust you that much, why don’t you march to your father and lay your complaint to him? Afterall, you are not the one I’ll be breeding for, are you?"
I took a slow step forward, my voice steady.
"Since you know what a proper breeder should look like, why don’t you do your father the honours and find him one yourself?... Maybe then I’ll finally be free from his shackles."
