I gulped in anticipation, the food had been served, yet we had not eaten.

I turned to the door where he had disappeared. My stomach grumbled, as it was in a devourer mode.

’Should I eat? What if he storms back and slams the table over my head?’

I stood up and walked towards the table, my cheeks blushed as I saw the mutton. I bit my lower lips. "He tastes good."

I peeked over my shoulder, I smiled in relief as he was not in sight. The chair screeched against the floor. I sat down, unleashing the devourer mode.

I buried my head in the food, shoving the food in my mouth with my good hand. My feet tapped on the floor as I flew over the clouds, my toes wriggled. I closed my eyes to savour every bit of its mind-blowing taste.

Just then, the door flung open. Slowly, I turned around. My eyes widened like a saucer pan as a disheveled man lood at the door.

"Ma... Master?" My voice ca out in a muffled ss. My mouth was stuffed like that of a squirrel.

’What the heck happened to him? He was just fine like a few minutes ago.’

He glared at , then he moved, walking closer towards . Every step he took felt like the wall was closing in on .

The salty sll of sweat invaded my nostrils, and when I looked closer, he was drenched in sweat. ’Okay, I’m confused right now. Can soone tell what is going on?’

Forcefully, I swallowed, pushing down the food in my mouth down my throat. My eyes stung from the pain of having my throat torn open like a saw.

His fra towered over , his eyes flicked to the table, and his jaws tightened. I followed his line of sight, and that was when I realized all the food was gone.

’Where did they go?!’

"You ate everything?" His voice dripped with disbelief.

I kept quiet. I lowered my head, staring at the floor.

"What are you? A cow or a pig?"

Those words stung so bad that I could not swallow my anger. "Have you ever seen a cow or pig this thin?" I mumbled under my lips, but he heard perfectly clear.

He closed his eyes. He inhaled deeply as if he was in a ditation session.

I pulsed my lips. ’It’s ti to get out of here.’ The chair screeched over the floor. I stood up like I was on an undercover mission.

I just wanted to disappear from his presence. I took one step at a ti, slow and steady. I sighed when I was six feet away from him.

"Stop right there!"

I froze with my heart almost flying out of my mouth.

He towered over , his steps were slow and deliberate. "What a glutton you are?" A devilish glint danced in his eyes.

At that mont, I knew I was done. "Mas..."

"Shhh." He placed his finger on my lips. "There is no explanation for this." He looked at the empty dishes on the table before he turned to again.

"Ti for your punishnt."

My heart thudded against my chest so hard that I thought it was a heart attack. ’Punishnt?’

"Now co with . You can’t drive crazy while you enjoy."

I didn’t hear the second half of his words as he muttered it under his breath.

I followed him with my shoulders slumped. I wanted to sleep. My stomach felt so heavy.

The humid air brushed over my flushed cheeks. To the left was water covering the land, and the n had begun to rebuild the wall. The pups ran around with a wide smile, their giggles were like sweet music to the ears. They had dried weeds in their hands as they headed towards the working n.

The won helped with the plaster of mud on the rocks. They looked happy, their gazes were vibrant compared to yesterday.

They looked happy because they had found hope. Hope that they can save their land.

"Don’t make wait."

His blood-chilling tone snapped out of my daze. I ran behind him.

We walked over to the other part of the village. I looked around as the place was unfamiliar to . ’Where is this? Did he bring here to end ?’

Before I could dwell on the thoughts, a soft lullaby drifted through the air.

My steps faltered to a stop.

The lody was faint, like it was being sung through layers of wind and water. But I knew that tune. I didn’t know how or when I had heard it—but my heart did.

It tugged at . Each note wrapped around my chest, warm and sad and familiar. My feet moved on their own.

The words floated closer, brushing against my ears like a mother’s whisper:

"Ho is a beautiful place, my child. If you have gone far away, now it is ti to co back ho..."

Tears welled in my eyes. My throat tightened. That voice—it sounded like soone I once loved. Or maybe wanted to love.

I turned toward it, unable to stop myself. Every step made the world around blur. The song grew clearer. Softer. As if it had waited just for .

Then I saw it—a soft shimr of blue light, pulsing like a heartbeat. It hung in the air, just ahead. Beckoning.

"Co ho... we are waiting for you."

A smile curved on my lips. I lifted my foot. But before I could take the final step...

A hand clamped around my shoulder and yanked back.

I gasped, crashing into a solid chest. The light vanished. The voice was gone.

The world snapped back into focus. Gray skies. Mud walls. And thick trees. My heart pounded in my ears.

The hand turned around. I t Damon’s eyes. His jaws tightened, anger and confusion contorting his face.

"Where were you going?"

"I don’t know," I whispered.

His eyes darkened at my words.
