The sky above broke with lightning followed by the sound of thunder.
I stood in the center of nowhere. My heart pounded in my chest like a war drum, and panic coursed through my veins.
My silvery hair clung to the small fra of my face. I turned around in my spot, my eyes scanning the woods scattered around .
My body stiffened when the sounds of twigs snapping echoed through the air.
I turned abruptly towards the direction the sound was coming from.
My breath turned haggard, the tension in the air was palpable and suffocating, like a mountain of pressure was pressed against my chest.
I had no idea how I got here, at first I thought it was just a dream, but the cold rain and the wound I sustained from running barefoot told otherwise.
Sothing was chasing after , and I had no idea what it was, my shoulders trembled from both cold and fear.
Then, my breath hitched when a pair of purple eyes with fiery golden rings in their depths, stared at from the cover of the woods.
My legs stumbled back, caught in between a root, and my butt thudded against the forest floor, and my hands scraped against the forest floor in an attempt to soften the impact.
I ignored the pain of the bruise that shot through my hand.
Then the animal walked out from the cover of the woods, its black fur drenched with water, its paws leaving footprints in the soft earth.
I froze in fear, my ocean blue eyes locked with the wolf’s. Its gaze burned with anger and betrayal, its urge to rip my throat out was clear.
’Why is it looking at like that? It’s not like I had betrayed it in any way... I don’t even rember encountering it before.’
Its black snout wrinkled as it growled at .
I scrambled back, tears pouring down my cheeks. "Don’t kill , please," I muttered under my breath.
The wolf stopped, its head tilted slightly at .
A small breath of relief escaped my lips. "I know you must be hungry, however, I won’t be able to satisfy you as I am only a little more than a bone."
A look of confusion sared its face, and a low growl rumbled in its throat.
"Don’t get wrong, I am only worried that I won’t be able to satisfy you... And besides I can’t die now. You should use your energy to hunt for satisfying at... You deserve a delicacy, not bones."
I tried to smile at it out of politeness, but it seed to enrage it more.
The wolf growled ferociously, and at the sa ti, the lightning flashed through the sky, briefly illuminating the earth.
My mouth dropped when the black fur of the wolf turned to a wave of purple and gold.
The wolf leaped into the air, with its jaws opened, its sharp teeth aid at . My eyes widened in fear, and a scream tore out from my throat.
Then chains burst out from the earth, wrapping around the wolf’s legs, pulling it down to the earth. A loud thud shook the earth.
The wolf struggled to break free from the chains, it bit the chains ferociously, but despite its attempt, the chains tightened around it pulling it into the depths of the earth.
The anger in the wolf’s eyes turned into one of help... It was asking for my help.
Before I could think twice, my feet moved on their own, racing towards the wolf. I stretched my hands out for it to grab, but before I could reach it, it had already disappeared into the earth.
"No!!!" I scread, as I fell on the spot it had disappeared from.
My heart aches as if a hot chain had been tied around it. I gasped for air, but it only made it worse.
Before I could process what was happening, the earth ripped open and fell into the void.
Aaaarghh!!!
My scream echoed in the void, and darkness surrounded .
Then a glimpse of sothing golden flickered from the other end of the void.
It burned bright like the sun, growing larger as I fell.
Thud.
I groaned as pain travelled through my body. I slowly raised my head.
Golden roots spread over the earth. There was not even a single tree in sight except the roots.
I stood back, biting back the urge to cry. I turned around, my brows furrowed. How could there be only roots with no trees in sight?
Then, specks of embers fell from the sky. I raised my hand, catching one of the embers.
It was very warm, slowly my eyes dilated and then I saw the image of a golden tree, blood, piled bodies, and fire.
"Aaaargh!!!"
A blood-chilling scream reverberated from my throat, I jumped up.
My eyes frantically searched the dark space around , ’Where am I now?’
The door burst open, and the servants rushed inside my room.
"Princess, are you okay?" A servant quickly turned the light on.
My body trembled, and sweat dripped down my skin. My hair clung to my face, and my shaky breath made it difficult for to speak.
The pink walls were a clear reminder that this was my room.
’I am back in my room, does this an that I have been dreaming?’
I buried my face in my palms. "I am okay, it was just a nightmare," I said, my voice shaky as a leaf before the wind.
"I’ll get you your dicine." Green dashed out of the room.
I pulled the blanket closer to my chest, holding onto it for dear life. ’Why does the dream an? First was the strange forest, then the wolf, the chains, then the earth falling apart, and then the golden light, the golden roots, the embers, the golden trees, the blood, the dead bodies, the fires? Why did I see them? Why?’
I grimaced when I felt pain shoot through my body up to my skull... the injuries I had sustained on my legs and hands from the dream were still on and I could still feel the chill from the rain.
’Wasn’t it a dream?’ Fear contorted my face.
I glanced to my side, and my heart stopped for a second. Golden dust was on my pillows.
’Golden.’
