"No way... we didn’t help you just so we can trade you," Lydia said.

The werewolves have spread out on us, blocking any chance of escape. One of the werewolves, an alpha, stepped forward.

"So much for the hunt ga... I was rooting for you." He grinned sarcastically, showing his teeth.

The air thickened as his aura beca overbearing. He was forcing us into submission.

"There is no need to waste your aura on them, they are going to die anyway." Another werewolf growled, then leapt into the air.

I rolled off Lydia’s with a sickening thud. I didn’t want to weigh her down. ’Wolf, are you there with ?’

’Yes.’ Ca its lancholic voice.

’Can you take control?’

’Your fae blood is suppressing . If I break out forcefully... we might lose our minds.’

’Do it. We don’t have much of a chance to live.’

’Fine. And my na is not wolf... I’m Lyra.’

The wolf that leaped into the air landed in front of Caroline. Her wolf growled and snarled, her claws digging into the earth, as her tail tucked in between her hind legs.

Before the blink of an eye, the werewolf pounced on her. Aggressive snarls and grunts filled the air, as they locked in a battle.

Lydia glanced between and Caroline, unsure if she should go and help her or if she should stand guard in case another werewolf decides to kill .

"Go Lydia, I’ll be fine."

Lydia looked at , her wolf’s bright blue eyes t mine. She hesitated for a mont but when she heard Caroline whimpering she turned to help her.

I bit back the loud cry that almost escaped my lips. The sound of my bone cracking filled the air, my thoughts turned into a ss, and I could feel my consciousness slipping away.

The werewolves began to attack ferociously as they saw I was about to change. One of them blurred through the clearing, its dirty brown fur was the only thing I could see.

’Lyra, quick.’

My wings slowly retreated inside my body. My claws and fangs elongated... Just then the werewolf appeared in front of with his claws aiming at my face.

My breath hitched, as his claws glinted under the moonlight. Then sothing ca in between us, the sound of flesh tearing followed by a whimper made my blood boil.

"Lydia!" I scread in agony.

’Lyra!’

’We are stuck, Ember, we can’t push past this phase.’

My eyes welled with tears as I stared at Lydia falling to the ground with blood gathering under her, her eyes t mine... a small smile forming on her lips. The werewolf turned towards , with his lips peeling back... but he stopped midway... he looked down and Lydia held his leg back.

She had transford back to her human form.

The werewolf clawed at her.

"No... no." I turned to Caroline, who was pinned down by a werewolf, his fangs dug into her neck, spilling blood all over her fur. She whimpered but could not break free. Her eyes t mine, and tears rolled down the side of her face.

A wave of pain crossed my chest, like my heart was ripped out. These were my sisters and I have brought disaster upon them.

I struggled to my feet. "Let them go... I have used magic to make them help escape. They are victims of magic." My voice cracked as my eyes moved to them.

The werewolves stopped.

"It doesn’t matter, they are traitors just like you." Allison’s voice rang from behind the wolves as she walked past them.

"To show they are not in their right mind." A bitter smile ford on my lips as I looked at Caroline. Her eyes were begging not to do anything stupid. "I’ll take my own life."

My eyes wandered to the woods, searching for Damon. But he was nowhere to be found. ’So much for finding love. Wouldn’t it have been better to just die and go to hell after my death in my real world? What difference is there between this and hell?’

My eyes moved to Lydia’s bloodied form. ’I am sorry sis,’ tears fell from my eyes.

"Stop her! She must be killed by !" Allison ordered.

The werewolves ran madly towards .

I let out a bitter laugh, I spread my arms wide. Then I fell off the cliff. The wind brushed harshly against my ears. My eyes t those of Allison and the wolves as they stared back at .

’So much for escaping.’

"I, Ember Salvatore, accept your rejection, Damon Blackthorne."

A sharp pain of sothing breaking spread through ... I heard an agonizing howl... then everything went blank.

........

(Damon POV)

I stood unmoving in my spot as I watched the werewolves running to hunt her. ’Why did she have to be a fae of all creatures? I was ready to accept her even if she was an Oga... but fae I could I accept her after everything they have caused ?’

My claws dug into my palm. ’Ember... my pet... My mate is a fae. How could I ever co to terms with that? The fae were the ones who killed my own family... my mate Elia. How could I look past that and accept her as my mate?’

I looked up at the sky, and the moon was shining bright, illuminating everything under it. "Moon goddess... this is cruel. Isn’t it better not to get a mate than do this?"

I knew I had hurt her... I even swore to protect her... I swore to protect her. I had suppressed the pain I felt when I rejected her. The shock and fear in her eyes... I failed my promise, I failed Ember.

A single tear rolled down my cheeks.

"She is in danger, Damon," Beowulf said tiredly. I knew he was the one who would feel the pain the most.

"Should we honour our promise for the last ti?"

Beowulf took over. My white fur shimred under the moonlight. "Yes." He growled as he blurred through the woods.

I still hate her... but for the mories we have both shared. I’ll help for the last ti. "So this was the reason her father has been cold to her and has warned not to let her into my heart..."

I followed her scent to the cliff but sothing felt wrong. Beowulf’s low and panicked growl echoed in my head. ’Why are they on a cliff?’

My heart kicked against my ribs. Her scent was fading too fast.

Behind , Alaric and Theo joined as we raced down towards the scene. The werewolves charged forward. ’Hold on, Ember.’

Beowulf ran faster, and we made it to the clearing where the werewolves had gathered. My steps faltered when sothing snapped inside .

Pain shot through like a part of my soul was torn from . Beowulf howled in agony. She had accepted my rejection.

I pushed the pain back, running towards the end of the cliff... My heart hamred in my chest for the first ti in a long ti in fear. Her scent had disappeared below the cliff.

Without thinking twice, I jumped off the cliff.
