(Damon POV)
"It’s rare, but it happens. You might fake it, only for the real thing to hit you right after. And when it does, there’s no hiding it."
’Fake it?... What are they faking?’
Ember kept quiet for so ti before she began to speak again. "But what if I don’t? What if no one’s out there for ?"
"Then you’ll still be free," Lydia said gently. "You’ll have choices. Not everyone finds their mate at eighteen, but at least... you’ll know you tried."
"But Ember... if Damon really cared, wouldn’t he fight to keep you by his side? Even if he had a Luna?"
My breath hitched for a mont. They were talking about too. Did my decision to take a mate make her feel like I don’t care?
My hands clenched beside . ’So absurd.’
"Sotis, I feel like he cares... then he turns around and acts like I’m nothing but property."
"Then maybe he’s confused too."
"Or maybe I’m just imagining things," she muttered. "It’s foolish to hope, right?"
"It’s not foolish."
’What exactly are they planning? I knew I shouldn’t have released those two friends of hers.’
I pushed the door open. The three of them snapped their heads toward . Their eyes widened in shock, their faces paled, and they quickly scrambled to their feet, bowing their heads down.
"Ember... co with ." I gritted my teeth.
Her eyes t mine, and a flicker of emotion crossed through her eyes. I don’t know what was happening to her recently; she had been talking about feelings.
This wasn’t like her.
She scurried toward . "Master..."
I turned around, walking away before she could finish her words.
My blood kept boiling, and it got hotter every second that went by.
Beowulf had been restless since we heard about the possibility of her getting a mate. That ant I would have to let her go... but I won’t. She is mine.
A nacing growl rumbled from my chest, making her steps falter. Lately, she seed cold compared to how troubleso she was... was she sick?
"Idiot. She wants us," Beowulf growled at the back of my head.
My Adam’s apple moved up and down. "Are you sure that is what she wants?"
"Of course... it is," he drawled.
When Beowulf talks like this, I know he is about to do sothing silly that will cost us both.
She is planning to leave ? I don’t mind binding her in chains.
"Having a great conversation, I see," I drawled.
I glanced over my shoulder. Her face looked pale, and those ocean-blue eyes t mine for a brief second before I averted my gaze.
"Yes, Master... it was really a great conversation," her voice was low, almost like a whisper.
"Hmmm."
"Thank you very much, Master... for setting them free." This ti her voice was louder.
I remained quiet. I pushed the door to my room open, holding the door for her to co inside. But she stood there, staring at as if I had suddenly grown two heads.
.......
(Ember POV)
My heart skittered in my chest when the door to the kitchen suddenly flew open... and the person standing there was no other than... Damon.
Blood drained from my face at the fear that he might have heard what we were talking about. Caroline and Lydia scrambled to their feet, baring their necks in greeting... Snapping out of my daze, I quickly mirrored their reaction.
When I heard him call my na, I knew that there was fire on the mountain. But what I didn’t know was if I was the one who set the fire or the one about to be consud by the fire.
I hurried toward him without hesitation. I believed that if I made him wait for long, Caroline and Lydia wouldn’t be safe in his presence. He could change his mind at any second.
I followed after him, giving so space. I didn’t want to be close to him in case he decided to pounce on .
But my mind couldn’t help but wonder. ’Did he hear our conversation or not?’ That simple question was burning my heart out.
I stopped when we got to the door. He flung the door open and then held it for to co inside. I froze; my legs refused to move. The only thought I had at that mont was to turn around and run.
’When did all of this start? Damon... holding a door for ? Sothing is wrong.’
I stared at him with a stunned expression. He moved his head, signalling to co inside. I fidgeted with the hem of my dress. ’Is he going to bury now or what?’
"Don’t keep waiting." His voice was low, but it carried cold chills, which sent shivers down my spine.
Hesitantly, I dragged my leg over the threshold, and as soon as I stepped inside the room, the door slamd closed. The sound almost made jump out of my skin.
I looked outside the window. The bright and blue sky had already turned cloudy, with a few drops of rain falling.
In my daze, his hands circled my waist, pulling closer to his chest. His scent of pine and chocolate masked my nostrils. My heart... a pounding ss.
"Master... what are you doing?" I tried to pry his hands away. Since there was nothing between us and I had decided to leave, there was no need to dwell on these fleeting emotions.
I froze when he buried his head in the nook of my neck. "I want you... now."
My breath hitched. I blinked my eyes as if I had heard sothing wrong. Maybe my ears were wrong, and it was just the tension.
"Master... I don’t understand what you an... Why don’t you let go of first and let us talk about this?" I struggled in his embrace... but his hold was like an iron clamp.
I froze when I felt a scorching sensation poking . ’I hope that is not what I think it is.’ My breath ca out shakily.
"Tell how you like it... gentle or rough?" His hoarse voice brushed against my ears, sending bolts of electricity down my spine.
