Alpha Caelen turned to , his body tensed. "About the rogues, I’m with you. But about Ember’s mother, I have nothing to say to you."

"Really? Is that so?" I arched my brows at him.

"Yes... there is nothing for you to know."

"Are you sure you want to push out? I might be the only one who can help you. Tell ... who she was?" I probed further.

"Alpha Damon... I will not say anything about her to you. And there is no way you can help ," he spat out before sitting on a chair that had managed to survive the catastrophe.

"If you don’t want to say anything about it, I guess there is nothing I can do... but you know Ember is different, right? She doesn’t sll like a full werewolf... which ans her mother wasn’t a werewolf," I paced slowly around the room.

He grew more tense. I knew I was close to cracking the nut. "So tell , if she is not a werewolf, is she a demon? A human? A witch? Or a fae?" My eyes were fixated on him as I tried to get the answer from his reaction.

There was not much change in his eyes. I couldn’t get my answers. A small smirk ford on my lips. "Just so you know... you might want to keep an eye on your Luna and Maddie. The aphrodisiac was obtained from the Blood Moon pack. And you know what that ans. It is either you are with or you are with them." My voice grew lower and cold.

"I’ll take care of them," Alpha Caelen muttered, his hands tightening into fists.

"When you are ready to talk about Ember’s mother, you know where to find ." I turned to leave, but I stopped midway. "I’m sheltering Ember now... if there is anything important for to know, you better tell now before it is too late."

"There is nothing important that you need to know. But my warning to you is that you guard your heart around her. Falling for her might not end well for you," he said through gritted teeth.

"And why is that?" I turned towards him, my brows furrowing.

"You will understand when the ti cos," he said, staring at , his lips pulling up slightly.

I didn’t say anything more. I pulled the door open and strode out of the room. My face tensed because I could already feel that sothing bad was going to happen. And my instinct told that it was related to Ember.

"Do you think the mark might be related to her mother’s identity?" Beowulf asked.

"I don’t know. But isn’t it weird that the identity of her mother is hidden? No one has seen her or heard of her. Even Evelyn doesn’t know. That is very strange... except her mother is not a werewolf and might be another creature."

"This doesn’t seem like a good thing. But she has the mark on her. Doesn’t that an that she belongs to us?" he asked, now pacing restlessly in my head.

"That, I do not know yet. We have to be sure she is the real one. And besides, the rogues seem to be stalking our territory because of her. Rember the last ti they attacked... their main target was her. We need to find out why they want her and who is behind them." My knuckles whitened.

Why does this feel like my second chance, but it is much like a rose with thorns? If not careful, I might hurt myself or even the rose itself.

"I bet the Blood Moon pack must be behind this. They have always wanted to be the head of the werewolves, believing the Lycans shouldn’t rule over the werewolves. And now that we are the last Lycan, I believe they must be stirring things behind the surface," Beowulf said, his eyes narrowing.

"Then we will keep an eye on their movent."

I made my way to the living room. Ember and Alaric were already waiting for .

"Alpha," Alaric greeted. "We are ready."

My eyes moved over to Ember. Our eyes locked for a mont before she averted her gaze.

"You can go to your father and talk with him," I said as sternly as I could.

I couldn’t get the image of the night before out of my head. No matter how much I tried to deny that I was affected by her, it seed like my body was trying to prove wrong.

She nodded at before making her way to Alpha Caelen’s room. I hoped she would be able to find her closure. After all, no one should be treated the way she was.

My eyes lingered on her until her fra disappeared behind the corner of the wall.

.......

(Ember POV)

I stood in front of the door, my heart skittering in my chest, as I didn’t know what to say to a man who was my father but at the sa ti wasn’t.

I swallowed before knocking on the door.

"Co in." Alpha Caelen’s voice echoed from the other side of the door.

I opened the door. My eyes widened slightly at the ss on the ground. The room looked like it had been ransacked by a bulldozer.

"Alpha Caelen," I said, my eyes eting his.

His gaze softened for a mont before it hardened again.

"What do you want to talk to about?" he asked in a nonchalant voice.

This bastard... is that how he should treat a child he had sold out like a commodity? Doesn’t he even have the slightest care for ?

"Are you really my father?" The question escaped my mouth before I even realized what I had just said.

"Ember... mind your words." He rose from the chair he was sitting on.

"What? You can talk and treat how you want, but I can’t say what I want?" I asked, my eyes narrowing in anger.
