Chapter 77: The mirror had clearly been shown
A sharp glint flickered through Clara’s eyes the moment she noticed the approving look Edward was giving Ivy.
Instantly, irritation burned inside her chest.
"That’s good to hear," Clara replied with a graceful smile that barely hid her displeasure. "After all, everyone deserves a chance to repent for their mistakes."
She was just about to take a seat when Xander suddenly spoke.
"Is there something else you came here to talk about?"
The calmness in his voice immediately made Clara pause.
"Huh?" Even Ivy looked at Xander in confusion.
Meanwhile, the man himself remained annoyingly composed as he lifted his eyes toward Clara.
Truthfully, Xander had already been informed about her arrival earlier after Teddy secretly texted him from outside. And knowing his family members very well, he never believed Clara’s appearance today was a coincidence.
None of the Emerson family members approached him without a reason. And Clara especially never wasted opportunities unless she planned to gain something from them.
"What are you talking about?" Clara asked awkwardly while forcing another smile onto her face. "I merely came here because I missed Grandpa."
Xander silently watched her attempt to act innocent. Then calmly asked, "And somehow today was the exact day you suddenly started missing him?"
The question instantly left Clara speechless.
Meanwhile, Ivy slowly blinked as realization finally struck her.
Wait.
Don’t tell me this woman actually came all the way here just to target me.
Until now, Ivy hadn’t fully understood the depth of Clara’s dislike toward her. But after hearing Xander openly call her out, everything suddenly became clear.
Clara really had come to cause trouble. And unfortunately for her, Xander noticed it immediately.
Meanwhile, Aaron looked seconds away from laughing out loud.
"Yes, Sister-in-law," he chimed in with fake curiosity. "If you missed Grandpa so much, why didn’t you just call him?"
Before Clara could answer, Edward calmly pulled out his phone and showed the call log.
"It’s been months since you contacted me," he stated flatly while staring directly at her.
Clara instantly froze. Her brain practically short-circuited as every excuse she prepared suddenly vanished.
"I... I was..." she stammered helplessly while feeling everyone’s eyes on her.
Originally, Clara had come here intending to humiliate Ivy and remind Leo of his "place" after Nate’s humiliation at school. But somehow, the situation had completely reversed on her instead. Now she stood there cornered and embarrassed in front of the entire family.
Meanwhile, Xander’s expression gradually turned colder.
"I have already been lenient enough by not throwing Nate out of school after he dared to lay hands on my son," he said calmly.
The entire room instantly fell silent.
"But take this as the final warning." His voice dropped slightly lower.
"If he ever tries to approach Leo or any other child in that manner again—I will stop considering his age."
A chilling pressure instantly filled the room.
"And when that happens," Xander continued while staring directly at Clara, "neither you nor Gavin will be able to protect him."
Even Aaron stopped smiling after hearing the warning. Because everyone in the room understood one thing very clearly—Xander never made empty threats when it came to Leo.
Clara stood frozen for several seconds before anger finally surged across her face.
"Xander, how dare you threaten me like this?" she snapped loudly, her pride finally breaking apart.
The room instantly grew tense again. But Xander remained completely calm.
"If you spent half this energy teaching your son basic manners," he replied coldly, "we wouldn’t be having this conversation."
Clara’s expression twisted in humiliation.
"You’re humiliating me over outsiders?!" she shouted while glaring sharply at Ivy and Leo. "Don’t forget I am your sister-in-law."
The moment the words left her mouth, the atmosphere in the room dropped dangerously as Xander slowly stood up.
His dark eyes held no warmth anymore.
"Clara," Edward warned sternly. But it was already too late.
"You think this woman actually cares about Leo?" Clara laughed bitterly. "She abandoned him once already! Women like her don’t chang—"
"Enough." Xander’s cold voice sliced through the room instantly.
Clara stiffened. But before she could react further, Xander took a step closer. His gaze remained frighteningly calm.
"You will not insult my son’s mother in front of him again," he said quietly while Clara’s face paled slightly under the pressure in his voice.
"And if you truly cannot control yourself," Xander continued mercilessly, "then stop embarrassing yourself by coming here."
The words hit harder than any slap. Even Clara visibly flinched, as around them, the room remained deadly silent.
Aaron looked away awkwardly. Edward sighed quietly. Even Butler Ben lowered his gaze.
Clara stood there trembling in humiliation as tears of anger burned in her eyes.
For the first time in years someone had openly humiliated her this badly inside the Emerson family.
And worst of all? Nobody defended her.
Realizing she had completely lost face, Clara clenched her fists tightly before forcing herself to straighten her posture again.
"...Fine," she said shakily while glaring at Ivy bitterly. Then without another word, she turned around and stormed out of the room in humiliation.
The moment she disappeared, silence followed immediately afterward.
Then suddenly Aaron quietly leaned toward Ivy and whispered,
"...That was terrifyingly satisfying."
"Uh?" She looked at him in surprise, but he simply winked.

Outside, Teddy and the others were already growing restless while waiting near the entrance of the Old Emerson Residence.
Ever since Clara arrived, all of them had been silently wondering what kind of disaster was currently unfolding inside the mansion.
And honestly? None of them felt optimistic.
"Do you think Second Madam already started trouble?" Benny whispered nervously while glancing toward the doors.
"She probably did the moment she opened her mouth," Percy muttered back.
Nico sighed dramatically.
"At this point, I’m more worried about Young Master Aaron surviving the conversation."
The group collectively nodded in agreement. Then suddenly—
Bang!
The front doors flew open violently.
"AH—!" Benny nearly jumped out of his skin at the sudden noise before immediately slapping a hand over his mouth.
All four men instantly straightened the moment they saw Clara storming out of the mansion looking absolutely furious.
The woman didn’t even look at them as she marched past them like a human thunderstorm before getting into her car and driving away aggressively.
The boys slowly stared at the empty driveway with a stunned look.
"...."
Percy was the first to break the silence.
"I genuinely felt like we were all about to get swept away just from the pressure of her walking past us," he admitted while finally exhaling.
Benny nodded immediately.
"She looked like someone lost an emotional custody battle."
Nico rubbed his arms dramatically.
"I think my soul briefly left my body when those doors opened."
Meanwhile, Teddy calmly adjusted his sunglasses like a man who had already accepted chaos as part of his daily routine.
Then finally, he looked toward the mansion and spoke with complete seriousness.
"Relax."
The others immediately looked at him hopefully.
Teddy nodded calmly.
"Everything is under control."
The group stared at him suspiciously.
"...How do you know that?" Percy asked carefully.
Teddy confidently folded his arms.
"Because I already informed Boss about her arrival," he said proudly.
The others instantly looked at him with admiration before collectively raising their thumbs like he had just prevented a national disaster.
"Smart."
"Very smart."
"You saved all our lives."
Teddy adjusted his sunglasses with calm dignity while accepting their praise.
Honestly, everyone there knew one thing very clearly—
Clara and Gavin were nothing more than two deeply insecure people who constantly tried creating trouble in their boss’s life.
But fortunately for them, Xander Emerson was never the kind of man who allowed anyone to step over him without showing them exactly where they stood.
And judging from the way Clara stormed out earlier...
The mirror had clearly been shown.

Meanwhile, inside the mansion, breakfast eventually continued peacefully after Clara’s dramatic exit.
The servants quickly replaced the tense atmosphere with warm food, tea, and quiet conversations.
Soon, everyone gradually returned to their normal moods.
Aaron resumed complaining about life.Edward occasionally corrected Leo’s table manners.Butler Ben silently managed everything in the background like the true backbone of the household.
And surprisingly no one brought up Clara again.
It was almost as if the family collectively decided she wasn’t worth ruining breakfast over.
Meanwhile, Ivy quietly sat beside Leo while occasionally placing food onto his plate whenever he became distracted.
Outwardly, the little boy still smiled and laughed with everyone.
But despite that... Ivy noticed something.
Every now and then, Leo would suddenly grow quiet. His smile would fade for a brief second before he forced it back again. And each time it happened, Ivy’s chest tightened slightly.
Because she knew exactly why. Clara’s words earlier had affected him far more than he let anyone see.
The realization made Ivy quietly clench her fingers beneath the table.
He’s still thinking about it, she realized sadly.
No matter how cheerful Leo acted, he was still just a child. And hearing someone openly remind him that his mother abandoned him once before would naturally hurt. Even if he tried pretending otherwise.
Slowly, Ivy lowered her gaze toward him. And silently made a promise to herself.
No matter what happened from now on, she would never let Leo feel unwanted again.
