When Ronald heard what Iris had stated, he quickly stopped in his tracks and turned back around.
"Hmm? You're still not finished yet?" Ronald furrowed his brows at Iris.
It was already getting pretty late out, and honestly, he was tired from sitting on the bench all day bickering to the group of criminals what they can and can't steal.
"Not yet, Young Master, obtaining the amulet was only part of my plan. Please go on ahead without first, and I'll return back ho after I finish up with sothing." Iris spoke as she took out the qi condensing plate and then dropped both the plate and the red amulet on the ground.
"Is that so..." Ronald followed Iris's gaze and looked at the amulet on the ground, "Well what else do you need to do? I don't mind helping you out."
Iris couldn't help but turn her head to the side and glance at Ronald after hearing his offer, and she hesitated for a bit before speaking, "Um, I'm sorry Young Master, but there's nothing else I need help with at the mont. It's probably best for you to go back ho instead."
"Are you ordering around right now?" Ronald pretended to get upset and folded his arms together.
"No, Young Master. I didn't an it like that. It's just that what I'm about to do next is extrely boring, and I don't want to waste your ti. Please forgive my rudeness." Iris imdiately knelt down and apologized.
"Apology accepted, but what exactly are you going to be doing that's boring?"
"I plan on ditating here for a few hours, Young Master." Iris didn't hide it from Ronald and answered.
Hearing this, Ronald knew imdiately that she was planning on cultivating here at the graveyard.
But what he couldn't understand though was why.
Since places like the graveyard are filled with yin qi, which is essentially the dark version of qi, it is extrely detrintal for a normal cultivator to cultivate there as the yin qi would significantly damage their dantian, and in most cases, destroy their soul.
Of course, so cultivators can absorb and cultivate yin qi though if they use the right cultivation thod or if they have the right body constitution for it, but the thing is that Iris didn't have the right body constitution for it, and her current cultivation thod is the Fragnted Soul Refinent Arts.
That cultivation thod can't properly absorb yin qi whatsoever.
In fact, since the Fragnted Soul Refinent Arts requires Iris to split her soul up in order to cultivate faster, absorbing yin qi would cause significantly more damage to her than it would to a normal cultivator.
But then again, Iris is a supposed protagonist now, and seeing as though Iris knows what she's doing, Ronald decided to hold back his judgent and continue observing for now.
"Oh, you're right, that honestly sounds pretty boring, but since I have nothing better to do, I'm going to watch you diate anyways. Be grateful that I'm willing to give up my precious ti in such cold weather just to watch you." Ronald smiled arrogantly and went back to sitting on the bench.
Now, while the Ronald two weeks ago would've been absolutely shocked to hear that he was willing to waste his ti with a heroine if it didn't benefit him in the overall grand sche of things, Ronald was extrely curious as to what Iris was about to do next.
After all, it was now evident to him that his cultivation knowledge was extrely lacking compared to so of these heroines, even though his cultivation realm was significantly higher, and he wanted to see if he could secretly learn from them.
And if couldn't learn anything, then oh well, it won't affect him.
He won't have any use for cultivation knowledge after he returns back to earth, as cultivation isn't real anyways...
Right?
"Thank you, Young Master." Iris's heart couldn't help but beco warm when she saw how arrogant Ronald acted.
Honestly, it was monts like these that made her realize how lucky she was to be able to serve him.
Sure, it sounded like he didn't care about her on the surface, but she knew that this was his way of showing how deeply he cared for her.
And if she wanted to continue having monts like these forever, then she needed to ensure that what she's going to do next will succeed.
"But Young Master, before I start ditating, may I request for you not to disturb during my ditation? It'll disrupt my ntal process if you do."
"I wasn't planning to, to begin with, but sure." Ronald reclined back on the bench and folded his arms behind his head, Let know when you're done with your religious activities or whatever."
Iris nodded, and then sat close to the red amulet and qi condensing plate in a lotus position.
Afterwards, she swung her bag to the front, grabbed an ominous black elixir out of the bag, and drank it down in one gulp.
Iris's body temperature then imdately began dropping at an alarm rate, and within just a few seconds, her body temperature was lingering at around 10 degrees Celsius.
The cold didn't affect Iris though, and after ensuring that her body temperature wouldn't drop any further, Iris took a deep breath to fully calm herself down and closed her eyes.
Now, since she was using the Fragnted Soul Refinent Arts in order to absorb the yin qi around her, she needed to make sure that she didn't absorb too many at once.
This was the first ti she was absorbing yin qi in this life after all, and if she wasn't careful enough, then the yin qi could seep into the fragnts of her soul and shatter them beyond repair before she could use them during her next step.
And while the elixir she had drank helped reduced her qi absorption significantly, it was still extrely dangerous for her, as the elixir only acted as an alleviation, and not a safeguard.
With that in mind, Iris began to slowly absorb the yin qi around her.
As Iris was absorbing the yin qi, Ronald began to notice that the temperature in the area was dropping ever so slightly.
This wasn't anything out of the ordinary however, as it just ans that Iris was attracting the yin qi from nearby areas to the graveyard, and so he didn't think too much about it.
A few minutes later, footsteps could be heard from outside of the graveyard gates, and two guards showed up at the front gates shortly after.
So Ronald got up and walked over to the gates.
"Evening, Master Kuangge. I presu you're not finished with your activities yet?" One of the patrolman, who had a burly physique and was holding a flashlight, tipped his hat.
Considering that his co-workers kept boasting about how much money they had recieved from Ronald today before he ca in to work, he wasn't surprised to see Ronald here.
"Not yet. You guys are the night patrols for this area, right?"
"Correct. The night patrol usually starts at 9 PM... do you know when you will be finished with your activites?" The burly patrolman actually wanted to ask if he could be paid off as well, but he decided not to bring it up since he didn't want to offend Ronald.
Ronald might not be from a major family here in the capital city, but since he was still from a major family in a different city, he could easily make his life a living hell if he wanted to.
"Dunno, probably won't be finished for the next couple of hours though, so give your bank account number and I'll wire you so money." Ronald shrugged and took out his phone.
The two guards imdiately took out their phones as well after hearing this, and after they had told Ronald their account number, the two guards both received 50,000 yuan.
"Wow, thank you, Master Kuangge!" The burly patrolman expressed his gratitude.
"Yeah, thanks a lot, Master Kuangge!" The other patrolman, who was slightly more skinny, chid in as well.
When Ronald said that he was going to wire them so money, they had assud that he was going to only wire them a few hundred yuan, or even a thousand yuan max.
But 50,000 yuan?
That's more than double their monthly salary working as a patrolman!
And all they have to do is to turn a blind eye to Ronald's activities for today only!
It's no wonder why people can get corrupted so easily, and why their coworkers were in such a good mood.
"Yeah, yeah, just make sure no one else cos snooping at night." Ronald waved them off nonchalantly.
"Got it, have a good rest of the night, and make sure you don't get devoured by the one-eyed soul devourer tonight." The burly patrolman was in such a good mood that he cracked a joke.
"Hey, keep your mouth shut, stop trying to scare him off." The skinny patrolman elbowed the burly patrolman, "Sorry about that, he just loves spewing off about that urban myth all the ti, we'll get out of your face now. Take care."
Watching the two patrolman disappear from his sights, Ronald couldn't help but frown.
He didn't know exactly what this 'one-eyed soul devourer' was, but this was now the second ti he had heard about it within a span of an hour, and frankly, he was starting to suspect that Iris ca here to absorb this thing...
Which probably explains why she had put a talisman on the amulet earlier to begin with.
Now of course, if Iris had planned on absorbing this ahead of ti, and didn't mind him being here while she did so, then that ant that this 'one-eyed soul devourer' was probably a spirit that couldn't physically attack people.
That's right, spirits also existed in this world, although he has actually never seen one before in his previous life.
He only knew they existed because he had read about Ye Fan fighting one in the novel, and because so of his cultivation thods and techniques explained how to properly deal and absorb the pure yin from spirits.
That being said, he honestly wanted to see how Iris was going to absorb this thing, and what an actual spirit looks like, so he rushed back to his bench.
As he was heading back however, he saw a one-eyed translucent demonic monster, wrapped entirely in linen strips like a mummy, erge from the amulet and enter directly into Iris's body.
And while it seems as though Iris had successfully absorbed the monster, which he assus was was the One-Eyed Soul Devourer everyone was talking about, the situation wasn't like that at all.
No, he could tell that the One-Eyed Soul Devourer was actually eating Iris's soul fragnts while she was still ditating.
'...'
'IS THIS HEROINE FUCKING NUTS!?'
