Chapter 673: Chapter 0673: Testing (Extra 1000 words, asking for monthly ticket)
“You an… you’ve been accepted to the number one university in the Kingdom? And your ntor is Professor Jas?”
Inside the campus, Su Lu was here to finish off his last paperwork and also to bid farewell to his friend, George.
George’s expression was dramatically exaggerated, “That ice-faced and harsh-mouthed Professor Jas?”
“Well… he’s not too bad.”
Su Lu gave a guilty laugh, thinking that Professor Jas had been quite genial lately.
“You have no idea… He’s eliminated all the students in our region except you. There’s a very famous genius girl since childhood, who ran out crying after getting scolded by him…”
George made a face that seed utterly shocked.
“Oh…”
Su Lu remained noncommittal on the matter.
“Also… Professor Jas is a famous big shot in the Capital. After coming to Baixi, many high-ranking officials visited him… Wait a second…”
George suddenly exhibited a strange grin, running back inside the classroom.
Not long after, a figure clad in a school skirt appeared and reverted imdiately at the doorway.
After a mont, seemingly having mustered the courage, she stepped forward.
It was the doll-like Ginny.
“Hello… Morphy… Congratulations on getting into university.”
She fidgeted with her skirt, “I heard your ntor is Professor Jas? A very influential gentleman?”
“Yes, goodbye!”
Su Lu covered his forehead, looking at the many faces peering through the window, one of which was George’s.
Without a doubt, the news had been leaked by him.
‘I’m not a kid anymore, still being so immature…’
He turned and left, without giving Ginny any chance to speak.
He didn’t need to think to know. She must have been trying to plead on behalf of her dad’s behalf, even though if he spoke on her behalf, Professor Jas would certainly agree. But what for?
Watching his retreating figure, Ginny’s shoulders started to tremble rapidly.
“Hey, hey…”
Walking out of the school gate, George rushed out, “Why did you just leave?”
“Childish!”
Su Lu threw him a glance. After fulfilling Morphy’s last wishes, Ginny had beco a re stranger in his eyes, too insignificant to even be worth stepping on as long as she doesn’t get in his way!
“I thought… you might want to help her…”
George suddenly fell silent, “As far as I know, Ginny’s father isn’t doing well, and the family has declared bankruptcy because of this. She might have to drop out…”
Despite his earlier righteous condemnation of the woman, he had now co to feel a bit sympathetic, being a youngster himself and having shared so many days as her classmate.
“So what?”
Su Lu shrugged, “So I should use up my credit with Professor Jas for this?”
“Morphy… you’ve changed.”
George sighed with a hint of lancholy.
Because I’m Su Lu, not Morphy.
Su Lu ntally countered, smiling outwardly, “People change.”
This was also why he hoped to leave this place as soon as possible.
In Joanne’s case, a young lad heartbroken and traumatized, moving to a new place would naturally cause so changes, wouldn’t one agree?
…
Black Iron Street, inside a cheap fast-food restaurant.
The Kingdom’s investigator, codenad ‘Vulture’, sat on a couch, idly yawning.
Across him was the local police officer Johnson, enjoying his black pepper-flavored sausage, “I don’t understand, why are you here?”
“Final investigation…”
Vulture showed a faint grin, “That ‘Justice Partner’ of theirs doesn’t have a single clue. Despite the high likelihood of a passing criminal offence, an investigator’s intuition tells not to neglect any piece of information… Theoretically speaking, every enemy of the Claude family, even Young Master Rand, is a suspect.”
“I don’t know Claude has any enemies living on Black Iron Street… Is it the workers from his factory?” Johnson stuffed the last piece of sausage into his mouth.
“No… it’s Young Master Rand’s. He recently held a special celebration party… I love champagne!” Vulture said, “Although I’ve visited his teacher and know his graduation isn’t worth celebrating, as he has claid another student’s achievents… perhaps, ‘exchange’ would be a better term.”
“You an… Morphy?!”
Johnson’s expression turned grave, clearly this wasn’t news to him, “I don’t think such a young lad has anything suspicious about him…”
“Bingo…that’s your blind spot. My experience as an investigator says, ‘Don’t miss out any minute possibilities’, though the possibility is indeed minute, for this reason, I saved him for the last…”
Vulture’s gaze had already caught the young lad out of the corner of his eye.
“Rember, he’s already been admitted to the Kingdom chanical University, ntored by Professor Jas, who’s so influential even the Chief pays him a visit… we should keep appearances.”
Johnson coughed, warning him.
“Yes, sha… we were a bit late. If we’d acted earlier, locked him up in a small dark cell for so ti, or even mildly scared him, based on my experience, he would’ve probably spilled everything… now, we’ll have to resort to more troubleso ans…”
Vulture stood up, “Don’t forget to settle the bill!”
“What are you doing?” Johnson asked uneasily.
“Don’t worry… nothing bad will happen.”
Vulture put on his coat and stepped onto the street, walking straight towards the boy.
…
“Huh?”
Su Lu, about to head ho, abruptly sensed danger.
He even found his gaze instinctively drawn to the person causing it.
But he quickly stopped this instinctive action and only took a quick peripheral glance.
“A stranger… I haven’t offended anyone who’s still alive, so there are only two possibilities, an enemy of Professor Jas or an investigator of the Claude’s case? The latter seems more likely…after all, I haven’t started school yet…”
In that mont, Su Lu made a decision to act like a regular person.
The next mont, he brushed shoulders with the man in a trench coat, seemingly detecting a scent.
“Hmm… a familiar yet foreign magic potion…”
Su Lu mind zoned out a little, letting the effects of the incense engulf him.
Suddenly, the surrounding scenario changed.
A lady beside him, wearing lipstick, unexpectedly pulled out a dagger from her purse, aiming for his belly.
‘Ah, it’s a test of my fighting ability? How uncreative…’
Su Lu glanced at the lady.
Only a super sensor with quick reflexes could do this.
He struggled to push away her hand holding the dagger, but he lacked the strength and could only slightly deflect it, watching as the dagger stabbed his belly.
“Ah… help… save !”
Su Lu collapsed onto the ground, blood flowing out.
…
The next second, everything around him changed once more.
Su Lu was back on the familiar street, grimacing. He crouched down, clutching his belly.
At this mont, his school uniform was pristine, with not even a scratch or bloodstain.
“Are you ill? Bellyache?”
The lady with the lipstick squatted down worriedly beside him.
“No… stay away from .”
Su Lu, now terrified, promptly got up and ran away.
…
“Not a bad reaction, pity about his poor consciousness and strength…”
At the corner of the street, Vulture shook his head, turning to leave.
