Chapter 595: Chapter 0595: City of Plague (Third update request for subscription)

After changing his clothes, Su Lu took the ti to look around the room.

The priests of this world must be ascetics, as the room was furnished simply. Apart from a wardrobe, there was just a plain bed and table and chairs.

Because no one had cleaned the room in a long ti, there was a musty sll in the air.

He approached the desk and pulled open the drawers.

The first contained miscellaneous items, including so tallic currency.

The other drawer was locked, but Su Lu managed to force it open easily.

Inside was a black hardcover notebook.

“A diary?”

Interested, Su Lu pulled over a chair and began to read.

The first half was filled with the quotidian routines and reflections on faith of an ordinary clergyman. He skipped past these entries, paying attention to the latter ones:

“Sacred Calendar year 233, Month of the Mists: a horrifying disease has broken out in the city. Those who contract the illness die within two or three days. Shortly before death, their bodies turn black and purple. The Archbishop has ordered us to dig as many graves as possible. The cetery is nearly full…”

“Month of the Severe Fire: My God… Is this divine punishnt? The disease took hold of the city too quickly, catching us off guard. Nearly every door has been marked with an ‘X’, the symbol of infection. The city is dying… My fellow student Victor vomited blood and died while working. May Dina Dilk receive his soul… I was the one who buried him in the grave he had just dug…”

“Hell on earth… I’ve seen the real Hell… Each mont, countless bodies are transported outside the city. There is no room left in the cetery; we can only dig large pits for burials. Even this was eventually impossible because all the gravediggers have died. People are left alone in their hos, waiting for the God of Death to knock on their doors. The Archbishop has announced that a grand blessing ceremony will be held. Hopefully, he can hang on till then. He has started coughing up blood…”

“I… I’ve been infected too. This disease, nad the ‘Black Death’, develops quickly. I don’t have much ti. I want to do sothing aningful before death…”

The record ended here, with hasty, careless handwriting.

Apparently, the priest wasn’t interested in keeping a detailed journal in the later stages.

“Black Death?”

Su Lu knew that it was a highly contagious form of plague, transmitted by rats and fleas. It was indeed a destroyer of life.

“Is it the influence of Lady Moon? Was bacterium directly deployed, or have local bacteria ‘mutated’?”

The world of ‘Micro Demons’ could resist the divine, but not ordinary microorganisms.

“Is this a plot by the divine?”

A totally ‘dead’ world could, of course, be seen as the ‘masterpiece’ of the Goddess of Death!

“But, a re Black Death can’t wipe out all humankind.”

Su Lu moved towards the city outskirts.

There was a reason he chose to arrive here.

At the brink of a world’s destruction, so individuals receive special treatnt, like the ‘protagonists’ in the Blue Star World.

In the Dream Spirit World, he not only harvested a terrifying information stream, but he also perceived the trajectory of a ‘protagonist’ to a certain extent.

“A fated encounter?”

Su Lu was walking on a desolate avenue. After leaving the core area, he occasionally saw other animals.

There were rats, dostic chickens and ducks, and even a cow.

It was nonchalantly strolling on the sidewalk, looking like the dominator of this zone.

“This city was destroyed, but it doesn’t an the next one will be…”

With this thought in mind, Su Lu road the wilderness with the mindset of a traveler.

On the first day, he ca back empty-handed, and had a wild chicken for dinner.

The second day, he found a river and followed its course.

On the third day, he finally saw a group of people, native to this world!

It was noon and Su Lu was grilling fish.

The fish in the river were big and sowhat foolish, probably because they had no natural predators. He caught quite a number with his bare hands.

Su Lu built a pile of firewood, cleaned the fish, skewered them onto branches, and smoked them next to the fire. Occasionally he sprinkled so wild herbs he had found. A rich aroma wafted around.

“Hmm, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, bursting with flavors…”

Su Lu congratulated himself on his cooking skills, feeling that the freshness of the fish was brought out fully, combined with the herbs, creating a unique taste.

Different worlds had different flavors of food. Simply enjoying the cuisine of different worlds was worth his ti spent here.

“Huh?”

Suddenly, he turned his head, looking in a direction.

A group of people seed to be attracted by the smoke and ran over quickly. When they saw him eating fish, they stopped abruptly.

They were seven odd-looking ‘people’. They were wearing black protective suits, thick goggles, and beak-shaped respirators. They looked like a group of semi-transford crow spirits.

“You… you… you…”

One of them pointed at Su Lu and said in a muffled voice from behind the respirator, “Who are you? Why are you here in the disease-ridden area? And… grilling fish?”

Lejay stared in shock at Su Lu. By Dina Dilk above, this was near the City of Plague!

Even their ‘Expedition Team’ had to tread carefully, wearing the latest protective suits from the kingdom. How could this man openly sit here eating fish?

Sothing was off!

The rest of the team was also stunned in silence. They didn’t say a word.

“I was hungry…”

Su Lu continued to eat his fish leisurely and looked at them innocently.

As for the bacteria, they might be lethal for ordinary people, but even under the suppression of the world, he still possessed a transcendent physique. Would he fear infections?

“Captain?”

A bird-beak doctor standing nearby spoke in a female voice, sounding very excited: “Could it be that the City of Plague Leviel has been cured, and there are still survivors?”

“Citizen! I am Lejay, the captain of the Feudal Kingdom Maximilian Plague Inspection Team!”

The leader spoke solemnly to Su Lu: “Even if you are a servant of God, you are obliged to report everything about Leviel to us! How many survivors are left there?”

His voice took on an urgent tone.

Since the outbreak of the Black Death in Leviel, the city has been completely quarantined, and the outside world has about forgotten its na. Only the fear associated with ‘City of Plague’ has been passed on.

“There are none…”

Su Lu shook his head: “As you see… I am the only one still alive.”
