Chapter 1279: Chapter 6: Sitting at Home, (Self-Filled) Arrives from the Sky
Chen Peter stood rather worriedly in front of the Song Dynasty Hotel.
Originally, someone with a higher position than him should have replaced him—or rather, even the president of the branch in the Fog Capital would be quite happy to do this doorman-like job.
It’s just that Chen Peter was fortunate enough to have bee the first lucky person to pick up the guests at the airport.
However, at this moment, Chen Peter definitely didn’t think this job was a beautiful assignment—it was more than an hour ago that several places in Great Britain were simultaneously attacked in a terrifying manner, especially the scene at the stadium, which was shockingly tragic as reported on TV.
Although the Fog Capital is still very safe at the moment… but if by any chance something happened, Chen Peter really didn’t know how furious Miss Ying would be, the one who could fire even the branch president with just a word.
His attitude should be tougher… even if they don’t use the prepared car, at least two people should be sent to follow… Chen Peter muttered anxiously outside the hotel.
Fortunately, in this torturous waiting, Luo Qiu and the maid slowly walked back from outside… seeing the relaxed expressions on their faces, Chen Peter secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Oh, Young Master Qiu, I swear by the great Shiva, I won’t let you go out alone next time!” Chen Peter hurried over.
He was still wearing the clothes from the day he picked up people at the airport—in fact, for the two days Luo Qiu was staying, Chen Peter didn’t plan on going off duty, after all, there were plenty of rooms in the hotel, it was no problem to wash, eat, and sleep there.
“Is Mr. Chen worried about the attacks?” Luo Qiu smiled slightly, “Don’t worry, we’re fine… it’s pretty safe here.”
“That’s true.” Chen Peter said, “But those terrorists are inhumane, today it’s Edinburgh, who knows, they might suddenly appear in the Fog Capital in the middle of the night! Young Master Qiu, it’s safer for you and your panion to stay in the hotel. If you really feel bored, we have plenty of entertainment facilities here to ensure you won’t feel bored!”
After spending most of the day, if you want to shop around, it’s almost enough… Luo Qiu also wanted to see if he would encounter anything if he just stayed inside the hotel—he planned to stay another day, and then the day after, head to the location of the university.
“Then I’ll trouble Mr. Chen.” Luo Qiu agreed casually.
“I’ll acpany you two back to your room.” Chen Peter seemed uneasy… probably wanting to see them back to their room before relaxing.
Suddenly, a motion came from the hotel’s lobby.
Only to see a team of security personnel rushing out—they were chasing a guy wearing a black coat. The guy in the black coat was incredibly agile, jumping up and down in the lobby, making a mess of the pursuing security personnel.
Even some customers checking in were caught in the chaos.
“What on earth is happening here!?”
Chen Peter furiously grabbed a security personnel to inquire—Song Dynasty Hotel’s security had always been good, such incidents don’t happen even once in years. If it bothered valuable guests, and if they casually mentioned to Miss Ying that the security seemed lacking here… it might cause quite a stir in the Fog Capital branch!
The security personnel obviously recognized Chen Peter and quickly said, “Mr. Chen, someone sneaked into the back kitchen to steal food. Not our guest, we tried to evict him, but this guy is just too agile… you saw it.”
“Damn! So many people but you can’t even catch one person!” Chen Peter shouted angrily… but anger was futile since the incident had already occurred.
The guy in the black coat, after causing a ruckus in the lobby, dashed out swiftly.
“This is… truly embarrassing for you to see.” Chen Peter awkwardly came to Luo Qiu… only moments ago, he was still saying the security was actually good here.
Luo Qiu casually glanced in the direction the food thief had run off to, then smiled slightly, “Mr. Chen, if you catch the person, don’t be too hard on him.”
“But… but he’s a thief?” Chen Peter was startled.
Normally, if a thief is caught, even if not taken to the police, at least there would be a beating… basic protocol.
Luo Qiu shook his head slightly, “If they weren’t hungry, or had no other choice, no one would steal food… and though it caused a bit of chaos, nobody was actually hurt, right?”
“Well… alright then.” Chen Peter nodded, though he agreed verbally, but once the person was caught… then discuss. He went on to smile, “Young Master Qiu, you truly have a kind heart… let me escort you two back to your room.”
With that, Chen Peter turned to the security personnel he was questioning earlier and said sternly, “You heard, when you catch the person, don’t be too harsh… if they’re hungry, give them something to eat, then just send them away.”
The security guy nodded quickly, agreeing, and jogged away.
…
But this thief was not easy to catch… some of the security personnel silently cursed, this guy was like a circus monkey!
“He’s over here! Quick, someone! Catch him!!!”
Just how large was the security team at the Song Dynasty Hotel in the Fog Capital?
Only to see fifty or sixty security personnel, now running back and forth on the hotel’s first floor… and the number of joining security personnel was gradually increasing.
“Damn it!! He escaped again… over there!!! He went that way!!”
This thief, the chaos he caused for the hotel seemed far beyond expectations—especially in the hotel’s mercial street, causing chickens to fly and dogs to jump.
When a large number of security personnel flooded into the mercial street and began a carpet search, on the glass curtain wall of the hotel exterior, only a small head suddenly extended upside-down, watching the chaos inside, then quickly ducked back in.
The thief in a black coat was now sticking to the hotel’s exterior wall in an incredible manner!
The black-coated thief adjusted his body, raised his head, and looked at the upper levels of the hotel… then suddenly pushed off with force and started running up the hotel’s exterior wall with a beast-like posture.
The thief ran all the way up the hotel’s exterior wall to the top floor’s helipad.
He stopped, staring down at the city from the rooftop… amber-colored peculiar eyes carrying a hint of urgency.
“Oga… where are you…”
He curled up his body, tightly wrapped his coat around himself… after a whole day of fleeing, he was pletely exhausted… all he wanted was to rest a bit.
Suddenly, a melody of gentle, lingering piano music reached his ears…
…
…
Piece: -To Distant Horizons- (Fly to the Distant Sky)
In front of the opulent Bösendorfer ‘Louis XV’, what Luo Qiu was playing was this small piece.
On one hand, it was because the maid recognized the origins of this Bösendorfer ‘Louis XV’—though not the original which had long since been lost to history, it was likely a replica made later, yet still undeniably expensive, prompting him to embrace a ‘play-for-free’ attitude.
Boss Luo, who enjoyed discount shopping days at supermarkets, had an instinct for free things that even the altar couldn’t erase.
As for the other reason… it was simply more atmospheric this way.
You Ye stood by his side, hair cascading down, watching her master’s face and hands, her smile growing broader—of course, more was for listening.
[To Distant Horizons] was a very short piece, a few minutes quietly passing by, naturally inparable to full-length piano positions.
“What a long piece… which master posed it?”
When Luo Qiu’s fingers finally stopped, the lingering sound hung in the air like a woman’s final rest, and the maid softly sighed.
Boss Luo smiled slightly and said, “I wouldn’t call myself a master of any current era… As for the origins, it’s fine if you don’t know.”
The maid’s fingers gently pressed down on a white key, an F# note… Since the master said it’s fine not to know, there’s no need to be curious.
They had many ways to pass the time.
Luo Qiu had no intention of spending the entire night cramming knowledge about the Celtic Pantheon, so he shifted slightly on the chair, allowing You Ye to sit down.
“Shall we play a piece together?” Luo Qiu said softly, “I trust you will guide me well.”
A piano duet.
But at this moment, the maid seemed to want to play a little prank, her right hand danced swiftly over the white keys… “The Flight of the Bumblebee.”
Her fingers danced, she glanced back with a smile, meeting Luo Qiu’s gaze on the same level.
Luo Qiu really liked this lively smile, and his hand weaved through hers to continue playing the bumblebee’s dance.
Their hands overlapped, sometimes watching each other, sometimes closing their eyes to listen… Suddenly, Luo Qiu’s left hand was free, moving to the back of the maid’s hand, and like pressing keys, it swiftly tapped on her hand, as if responding to her initial playfulness.
Until the end of the piece, the final notes faded into the air, Luo Qiu finally tore his gaze from the maid, looking towards the terrace.
The city lights outside the hotel reflected on the sliding glass door, and a somewhat innocent-looking face simultaneously appeared in the light and shadow.
“What a polite little fellow.”
Luo Qiu pressed another key, its sound bounced out, and at that moment, the glass door to the terrace automatically opened, causing a figure to tumble into the room.
But he quickly found his balance, though a bit awkward, he didn’t actually fall onto the carpet… A black coat wrapped around his body.
The coat was really big, actually not fitting, making him look a bit ridiculous—even the fisherman hat he wore almost drooped down to his eyebrows, and there were still loose areas.
His hands were hidden within the sleeves.
He stood there awkwardly, seemingly unsure of how to react to the situation… So he resolutely chose to retreat, turning around and rushing out to the terrace, jumping onto the terrace wall.
Luo Qiu, however, said, “Everyone outside is looking for you, right? It’s not too late to leave after things calm down, at least it’ll save you some trouble.”
He was squatting on the wall, pressing down with both hands… The moment the voice came, he was in mid-jump, but he paused, his jumping posture unfinished, causing his body to lose balance and fall.
He truly fell.
Ah—!
He uttered a soft cry of fear as his body disappeared over the wall, but in the next moment, a hand climbed up the wall again, followed by a second hand.
The small head cautiously rose from outside the wall, scouting everything inside the room, only to see the young man inside slowly approaching step by step.
…
Luo Qiu had already given up—anyway, even if he stayed in the room and didn’t go out, things would probably still happen. Now, he was adopting an attitude of breaking the pot since it’s already cracked.
The eyes were amber and uniquely slit-pupiled, on a face smeared with dirt and oil, a few long whiskers were visible symmetrically.
“Beastman?” The maid, who walked over with Boss Luo, recognized the intruder at a glance.
This seemed like a switch, instantly stimulating him, his amber pupils showing a hint of sharpness… He pushed off with both hands, lifting his body high, then lunging towards Luo Qiu and You Ye from above.
This sudden attack would trigger Boss Luo’s absolute defenses from the club… Luo Qiu had no choice but to wave his hand.
Before the attack landed, a gentle force blew him away, causing him to fall into the small pool on the terrace.
Splash, water splattered everywhere.
The water in the small pool was actually not deep… But unexpectedly, the intruder started to drown, struggling desperately in the water.
The coat and hat were long gone, and he finally ‘crawled’ to the pool’s edge, lifting his head and gasping for air, as if having narrowly escaped death.
But at this moment, the pair of furry ears on his head were trembling slightly.
His expression was uncertain, his gaze locked tightly onto the master and servant in front of him… The intent to attack seemed not to have disappeared.
Luo Qiu and the maid exchanged glances.
The maid softly said, “The situation for beastmen seems rather dire, so their vigilance is stronger towards those who recognize them. In the Middle Ages, beastmen even became slaves and playthings for the aristocracy… Even today, some people are involved in capturing beastmen for trade.”
This naturally occurred on the European mainland—having grown up in China, Luo Qiu had never witnessed it personally.
“I see…” Boss Luo nodded, then looked at the little beastman and said in English, “I’m sorry, we don’t mean you any harm.”
But the small beastman in the pool let out an angry shout, once again lunging out of the water.
“That’s Turkish,” the maid reminded from the side.
Luo Qiu had to purchase fluency in the language, and said again, “We really mean no harm, we just don’t want you causing trouble outside again, after all, this hotel… has some connection to me.”
He personally restrained the little beastman’s next attack—he did it himself because pared to the maid, Boss Luo was better at delicate work.
If the maid used black flames for restraint, even at the lowest intensity, it would cause a painful burning sensation.
“You see, if we wanted to harm you, I think you wouldn’t have a second chance to attack… huh?” Seeing the little beastman suspended in midair, Luo Qiu was taken aback.
His greatcoat had been left in the water; he wore only a very thin and equally ill-fitting male shirt… almost hanging to the knees.
But it was already soaked through.
Whether it was the faint blush on the chest or the vaguely visible triangular spot, it all revealed that the initially masculine appearance… was actually her.
“Let, let me go…”
