Star Sea Company, truly a household na.
But just as expected, after the initial excitent and thrill passed, unease began to surge like a tide in the face of an unprecedented new era.
People kept complaining online.
"Should I, a foreign language student, drop out? Or transfer schools?"
"I never dread that the job I fought for over twelve years would be crushed by alien technology one day."
"Our company has stopped hiring."
"Hahaha, I’m bankrupt, hahahaha, all my money is gone!"
"What is this? Even as a novelist, I suddenly hemorrhaged. Reality is more exciting than fantasy; who the hell needs fantasy now?"
"..."
Similar voices beca increasingly common since these were real changes happening to people.
Desire for the future was becoming even more profound.
Even Shen Shi’s original script murder store had seen a sharp drop in traffic over these past few days.
As so people said, the current reality is already exciting enough, and people do not need such entertainnt activities for emotional stimulation, nor do they necessarily have the mood for it.
This phenonon was sowhat better in the Eastern Country.
However, in the more sensitive and fragile market of the Western Alliance, it was practically a catastrophic disaster over the past few days!
The massive shock caused the entire stock market to plumt on a large scale, bringing countless companies into an economic crisis, and even many previously stable investnts vanished into thin air. All this triggered a new round of a chain reaction, causing unprecedented turmoil in the market within a short ti!
This intense change was even more severe than any previous stock market crash, even more serious than any prior financial crisis!
Many people with originally decent economic conditions lost everything overnight.
Even worse, many lost their jobs.
Hoson was one such unlucky person.
Fluent in eight authentic languages, he was a senior translator at a law firm, earning a hefty salary and enjoying a stellar reputation wherever he went.
When Star Sea Company had just erged, he even watched the live broadcast of that press conference in its entirety, feeling excited and cheering for that incredible space elevator just like everyone else.
As for that powerful translation ability, he had little to worry about.
After all, his advantage did not lie in translating everyday language.
It was in the professional field of legal translation.
For so special legal terms, he even had his own unique way of translating them, which was his true trump card for holding such a position.
However, this naive thought lasted only three short days.
First, there was the severe market volatility. As a high-inco mber of the Western Alliance, he didn’t have any savings of his own. All his funds were put into the stock market or other investnts, but in just two days, all his investnts, whether in forrly sweet tech stocks or the ever-stable dical stocks, all burst under leverage!
Yes, he went bankrupt.
Just like countless others.
The only good news was that he still had a high-inco job.
But on the fourth day, he received a dismissal notice.
"You can’t do this!" Hoson’s roar at the ti nearly echoed through the entire law office, "Without , you can’t serve your foreign clients! Not to ntion whether that damn translator machine can even translate legal texts, even if it can, do you have one?"
"I’m deeply sorry, but I have also gone bankrupt," Hoson’s boss, an elite lawyer, said, his face pale, "and I’m already deep in debt; I can no longer afford your salary."
"..." Hoson opened his mouth, but not a single word ca out.
He finally left the law office, as if deflated, without looking back.
Because he knew he was unlikely to even receive severance pay.
The next few days were like a nightmare—he couldn’t find a job.
Everyone shook their heads at the re ntion of translation, without even looking at his splendid resu. Hoson never imagined that the career he was so proud of would suddenly face such a fate.
Dwindling savings consistently told him his future outco.
—Ending up on the streets.
Until one week after Star Sea’s ergence, on the brink of complete despair, he received a phone call.
"Hey, Hoson, we need you."
With just the first sentence, Hoson shuddered intensely.
What he heard most these days was, "We don’t need you."
"Who are you?" he even asked in disbelief.
"We are the Star Sea Resistance Association."
"Who?"
"Star Sea Resistance Association," said the voice on the other end, "Have you been reading the newspapers and watching the news? The article most being reprinted recently, ’Why Mankind Doesn’t Need Star Sea,’ was written by us. There’s a massive group of people here who, like you, have gone through similar experiences. We must unite to uncover the conspiracies of Star Sea Company and that alien, to save all humanity."
"..." Hoson felt a bit dazed.
He did rember reading that report, finding it very persuasive, thinking that the self-claid returned human could perhaps be alien because they caused such chaos and affected so many people within only a few days, which could foreseeably affect even more in the future!
He wasn’t the only victim!
Just realizing this made a surge of hatred appear in his eyes.
"I’ll join." he said.
"Great." The person on the phone didn’t seem surprised at all, "Now, we need you to stand up and speak out in the dia, share your encounters, Many people will be like you, and also, beware, our officials are either hypnotized or seduced by the aliens; they’ve beco accomplices. You know what kind those people are..."
Hoson nodded continuously.
Yes, this was a huge conspiracy.
The aliens had captured the world’s top tiers; their goal was to take over the world without any bloodshed. Disrupting the economy was just the first step. They must unite and call on more people to realize this.
After hanging up, Hoson felt reinvigorated.
He took out his phone, already having many texts planned in his mind. As an elite with exceptional writing talent, he was confident his words could touch many people.
But as he turned on his phone, he saw a piece of news posted ten minutes ago that’s already gone viral online.
[Star Sea Company Announced the First Batch of Technology List!]
Technology List?
Hoson paused briefly, then imdiately realized that this list referred to alien technologies provided by Star Sea Company!
With so trembling, he opened the Star Sea Company website and found the list.
Sure enough, with just a quick glance, he saw the "Universal Translator Software" on the list, and upon clicking it, it read, "Suitable for any known language, any setting, any environnt"!
It’s over!
The software was even free!
Hoson’s vision darkened.
Even without downloading the software to try it, he already foresaw the outco, which was all the skills he had painstakingly honed over the past decade would beco worthless!
Humankind doesn’t need Star Sea!
Clenching his teeth, Hoson felt imnse resentnt toward Star Sea and the so-called returning human from the alien world.
However, just as he was about to express this resentnt and emotion through words, his peripheral vision caught sight of a string of praises from the global channel preserved on the Star Sea official website.
"Is this for real? It’s incredible!"
"I declare, Star Sea is God!"
"Ahhhh, I can’t wait!"
"When will the products be available? I’m willing to pay any price!"
"I’m too excited to sleep!"
