Chapter Sixty Four
"I am off to see my father. Is he ho at the mont?" She announced as she tried to leave the table. The pain she felt getting up was as equal as to when she sat or walked. Oh, she hoped the man would not notice.
"I can’t tell if he’s back or not, but I’m guessing he’s back in his suite because he had left with Markus. Since he is here, I am sure your father is back too." Matilda answered.
"Let get you an ointnt before you go. It has been a long ti since you used an ointnt. The fight must have been intense." Her nanny went to one of the cabinets and pulled out the first aid box.
"I will do it myself." She quickly grabbed it from her hands and walked towards her bedroom.
This was getting awkward. She could not possibly stay here, could she?
Her father would see she was not actually sick. Her nanny would start asking questions and she did not know how long this pain would last.
She had nowhere to hide though there were plenty of properties they owned. Her father knew every one of them and she was sure he had guards everywhere.
Her warehouse had no beds and she did not want to waste any ti purchasing one. She would have to clean the place for it to be suitable to lock herself in for days. Why had she not thought about it all?
She should focus on one at a ti and first, she needed to make sure her adoptive father approved her leave first.
She could not also just go to him, he would tell her to deal with it. She could use so good rest too. Maybe she could send her Nanny to him.
She called Ruth into her bedroom to have the conversation since she did not want Markus to hear her.
"Is it that serious? Asli, why have you not said anything? You always endure things so I thought you would with this one too," now she was regretting telling Ruth. This woman was bad at perceiving things but rather good at exaggerating them.
She only just told her she needed so good rest but the woman was acting as if she had just told her she had few days to live.
"It’s just rest!" She yelled to silence her. "Pack so few clothes and put the bag in my blue car."
"You are leaving ho?" Ruth resud her questions.
"Yes."
"I’m coming with you!" She demanded and Asli shook her head. She did not even know where she was going. She wanted to be away from everyone.
"I will be working as well. It would not be safe for you." She said, dismissing whatever idea she was having.
"You said you were going to rest." She pointed out.
"Yes. Ruth, I will be working from ho. You do not want the n bringing people here to torture them, do you?" She tried to scare her and she watched as her face changed to exactly what she was hoping to see. It excited her to see the fear in her eyes.
"No." The older woman shook her head. Perfect.
"Good. Now, tell my dad I asked you to request for leave on my behalf." She told the woman, who did not ask any questions this ti around. The thought of eting her father was enough to scare her again.
"Your father. I wouldn’t..."
Asli cut her off. "You will be fine. I only need your exaggeration." She was good at that.
Ruth swallowed hard but nodded, knowing there was no room for argunt. She watched as the older woman left the room. Asli knew she had to leave before her father sent for her after her nanny left his place.
She had already turned to her dressing room, throwing open her closet and yanking clothes off their hangers. She moved with a sense of urgency, stuffing things she needed into a duffel bag. She grabbed a few personal items, hesitating for only a second before tucking them in. She didn’t know what else to pick she never had been to a sleep over before.
Her hands shook slightly as she zipped the bag shut. This wasn’t just a trip. She was going to see Aht.
That caused a slight jump in her stomach.
*********
The hall outside Asli’s father’s office felt colder than usual, or maybe it was just Ruth’s nerves playing tricks on her. She steadied herself, squared her shoulders, and knocked twice.
"Co in."
The voice was deep, and commanding, and made Ruth hesitate before she finally pushed the door open. Asli’s father sat behind his huge mahogany desk, while his piercing gaze lifted from a stack of papers the mont she stepped inside.
He didn’t speak. He didn’t have to. The weight of his presence alone was enough to make Ruth feel like she was standing on unstable ground.
She cleared her throat. "Sir, I ca to request a leave of absence on Asli’s behalf."
Silence. His expression remained unreadable.
Ruth forced herself to continue. "She insisted I speak to you. She, um..." Ruth hesitated, rembering Asli’s words. ’Exaggerate.’ "She’s feeling unwell. Not just physically, but ntally. She’s been under a lot of stress lately, and it’s affecting her. She needs ti away."
His fingers tapped against the desk. "She sent you to tell this?" As if he didn’t believe her.
Ruth nodded. "Yes, sir. She thought it was the best thing to do instead of telling you on the phone."
A long pause stretched between them. Then, finally, he leaned back in his chair, studying her with sharp, calculating eyes.
"And where exactly does she intend to go?"
Ruth swallowed. "She... she did not say but she said she’d be working from ho, Sir."
His jaw tightened slightly, but then he simply nodded. "Fine. She has three days."
Ruth blinked, caught off guard by how quickly he agreed. But she knew better than to question it. She nodded respectfully, turned, and walked out, only letting out a breath when the door closed behind her.
