Chapter Forty-Eight

It was a brief distraction; she knew that was one of Markus' traits. But then, did he recognize her? She hoped not. She soon refocused.

She killed the engine, jumped off the bike, and dashed to the steps. But before she could reach them, a van ca to a halt behind his car.

The sliding door sprung open, and a bunch of rough-looking n surged out, their gaze locked on her. She knew them very well.

They gave chase, their feet pounding the pavent as they closed in. She climbed the stairs two at a ti, her heart beating with excitent.

Asli would've tried killing them to lower their number, first but she wasn't her tonight.

She burst through the door at the top, and a scene of depraved chaos unfolded before her. Won and children, kidnapped and terrified, were exhibited on a makeshift platform, their voices wailing in despair as they were auctioned off to the highest bidder. Her adoptive father wanted them to kill everyone in the room and make it clean for him.

A few guards' eyes caught on hers, their expressions distorted. So of them exchanged apprehensive glances while laying their hands on their firearms.

She forgot to think about how there weren't any guards outside. Did they think nobody without an invitation wouldn't co?

One of them who stood closer to where she was, took a step forward, his voice low and intimidating. "Who are you? You are not supposed to be here,"

Now, all the guards' attention was on her. Their eyes locked onto her, while their faces twisted in a mix of confusion and hostility. They probably were trying to figure out who she was.

They moved towards her, while their hands pulled out their guns. She stood her ground, and she made sure she flashed her eyes with a fierce intensity.

As the guards closed in, she leaped into action. Her hands flew, knocking down the first guard with a quick jab to the jaw. The second guard swung his revolver, but she avoided it and used its speed against him.

He plumted to the ground, his rifle clattering out of his grip. Markus and his n broke into the room as she was taking care of the guards.

For a minute, it appeared that they were on the sa side, taking out the remaining guards. However, the air was thick with tension, and she knew it was only a matter of ti before they turned against her.

The filthy rich n, sensing the chaos, scurried towards the stage. They were ushered behind the hostages, using the terrified won and children as human shields.

The auctioneer's voice rose, shrill with panic, as he tried to restore order. But it was too late. The room had descended into chaos, and the stakes had never been higher.

Markus and his n efficiently took down the remaining guards, their movents swift and deadly. But as the last guard fell, Markus's eyes locked onto hers, a cold calculation gleaming in their depths.

She knew that look. It was the look of a predator sizing up its prey. She stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest, as Markus and his n began to circle her.

The filthy rich n, still cowering behind the hostages, watched the scene unfold with a mixture of fascination and terror. The auctioneer, sensing an opportunity, raised his voice, calling out to Markus.

"Ah, welco, welco! I see you've taken care of the... unpleasantness. Perhaps we can proceed with the auction?" Markus's gaze never wavered from the person who just spoke. Was she being serious right now?

At the sa ti Asli, out of annoyance, shot the auctioneer. Markus' eyes shot red her way and she shrugged her shoulders. She did not care about killing the woman.

However, she read sothing in his eyes. He looked defeated. A sly smile ford on her lips This was the least she could ever do.

Why was he giving up on their fight? Did he fear her that much? 'Awww poor baby.' she almost scread when she saw him rushing out of the hall.

Aht wouldn't have. He would've stayed through the fight even if he had no bullets. He wasn't a coward. No wonder the legacy was being passed on to him. A man like Markus wouldn't deserve the honor.

She was beginning to dislike Markus on a personal level. Probably because he wanted sothing he didn't deserve.
