Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart Chapter 73: You Really Know How to Read Minds
Tristan Lockwood’s dark eyes suddenly sank.
Claire Hale: "She says she’s being ntally tortured by Sean Lockwood, repeatedly suicidal. According to you, marrying Sean was her own choice, so whatever he does to her, she deserves it, doesn’t she?"
"She’s not the sa as you, is she?" Tristan frowned, disgust rising in his eyes, "You know very well why you married . I don’t care about Jade Sutton and Sean Lockwood’s story. But she once saved , and because of this, I can’t just ignore her."
"Fine, then sign the divorce papers, and you can take care of her without getting in the way."
Her body, freshly out of the shower, felt a vague chill again.
Claire wrapped herself tightly in a blanket.
Her eyes were icy.
She was cold, but Tristan Lockwood was even more heartless.
"You want a divorce? Fine, give back all the money I’ve spent on you." He said rcilessly, "Marrying for two years, you should know how much I’ve invested in you. Since we’re parting, let’s account for it thoroughly. Don’t think you’ll get even a tiny benefit from ."
After he finished speaking, Tristan Lockwood slamd the door and left.
She heard the footsteps go downstairs, then the door opened, and saw the car disappearing into the distance through the window.
Only then did Claire tiredly fall back onto the bed.
Tears slid down the corner of her eye, she wiped them, then took out her phone and sent Dylan Skinner a ssage:
et at the usual spot.
...
When Claire drove to the hotel, Dylan was already waiting at the entrance.
He was wearing a cheap black down jacket and faded jeans, with average sneakers on his feet, slightly worn on the surface.
She studied him in the car, rolled down the window, and said to Dylan, "Get in."
Dylan paused for a mont, obediently sitting in the passenger seat.
After fastening his seatbelt, he glanced at Claire’s profile and asked, "Sis, are you upset? Did your husband anger you again?"
Claire barely smiled, curling her lip, saying, "You’re pretty good at guessing people’s thoughts."
Dylan laughed, "That’s easy to guess; Sis only thinks of in situations like this."
Claire froze, about to explain, but Dylan continued, "No need for you to feel bad, Sis. Our lives are worlds apart. Just rembering when you need soone already makes happy."
"I don’t feel bad," Claire said calmly, "I gave you money, so you should accompany ."
"Alright, whatever Sis says."
Dylan smiled, nodding obediently.
Claire drove to the mall downtown.
Upstairs, she looked at the young n’s clothing store and said to Dylan, "Pick a few outfits."
Dylan: "Sis, I usually buy clothes online. This place is too expensive; I can’t afford it."
"I’ll buy them for you."
"How could I let you..."
"Will you pick or not?"
Claire’s four words were calm yet inherently overpowering and insistent.
Instinctively, Dylan nodded, "I’ll pick."
He was tall, lacking eight-pack abs, but still considered quite good among average n.
Almost a natural clothing hanger.
After seeing him try on several outfits, Claire finally told the clerk, "Buy them all."
Dylan stood nearby, awkwardly saying, "I’ll repay this money in the future."
"Alright."
She responded blandly, not really expecting him to repay.
Still, spending money on handso guys felt surprisingly nice.
No wonder Tristan used to love buying bags and cars for those won. Sotis, giving truly is more satisfying than receiving.
While Claire was paying, Dylan waited not far away for the clerk to pack the clothes.
The clerk glanced at Claire and smiled, "Your sister is really good to you, handso."
"She’s not my sister."
Dylan reflexively refuted.
The clerk’s expression froze for a second before hurriedly apologizing, "Sorry, I heard you calling her Sis and thought..."
Dylan’s previously smiling face turned indifferent as he glanced at the clerk.
The friendliness he showed towards Claire was nowhere to be seen.
"Are the clothes packed?"
"Packed, here they are."
After buying clothes, Claire asked him, "Anything else you want?"
Dylan quickly shook his head, saying, "Sis, I can’t spend any more of your money. Why don’t you browse for things you like? My scholarship just ca through, and I also want to buy Sis a gift."
"Scholarship?" Claire casually asked, "What year are you in? What major?"
"Fourth year, graduating this sumr," Dylan answered truthfully, "I’m in the AI program at Riverbend University."
"Riverbend AI?"
Riverbend was a top university dostically, its AI program one of the best.
Claire’s eyes flickered with emotion, thinking for a mont, she said, "I have a friend in this field too. If you need, I can introduce you to his company."
Dylan: "Then I’d be asking Sis for favor again."
Claire suddenly stopped, gazing intently at him, "Dylan, am I good to you?"
"Of course!"
"I need your help with sothing."
"Say no more, Sis, I’d even go all out to get it done for you."
"You need to keep your life; Auntie won’t manage without you," Claire continued walking, "I’ll introduce you to The Jennings Tech, and once inside, follow my instructions."
"The Jennings Tech?"
Dylan’s eyes lit up.
It was a dream job they all aspired to.
"Alright."
Claire nodded slightly, then casually sent Jenson Jennings a ssage.
Jenson might have been busy and didn’t reply imdiately. Claire put her phone away, glancing at the nearby cinema, her gaze flickered.
Dylan could read the room and imdiately said, "Sis, wait for ," then ran to the cinema.
When he returned, he was carrying a large bucket of popcorn, saying, "Want to watch a movie together, Sis?"
Claire looked into his eyes, "Okay."
Watching a movie with Dylan, Claire felt distracted, her mind filled with mories of her first movie with Tristan Lockwood.
She still rembered it was a Japanese film; the leading lady spent her life pleasing those around her for love and attention, but ended up dying tragically by the river alone.
After that movie, she had asked Tristan a question.
She asked him, "I feel a lot like that woman, do you think so?"
Tristan had responded coldly, "Not at all."
Then he held her hand.
That was the first ti Claire felt the urge to marry Tristan.
But that was many years ago.
So long that only today did she suddenly recall that she once had such a mont where she was so moved by Tristan.
