"I wouldn’t dare." Claire Hale put away the dicine box, "If I make you so angry that the Lockwood Family dies out, I’d be a sinner."
After speaking, she thought of sothing and added, "Besides, you can’t die. If you die, what happens to Jade Sutton? By the way, you’ve suffered such serious injuries, why hasn’t Jade Sutton checked in on you?"
He replied coldly, "Do you think she should show up at a ti like this?"
Even when he’s beaten nearly to the point of being crippled, he’s still thinking about protecting Jade Sutton.
Claire didn’t respond to him.
Yet, earlier when Tristan Lockwood risked everything not to ntion Jade Sutton, his desperate look stayed in her mind, refusing to leave.
After leaving The Elder Lockwood’s residence, the two got into the sa car.
Tristan Lockwood was too injured to drive.
Claire had to act as his driver.
She didn’t drive ho but headed to Central Hospital, dropping him off at Clarence Finch’s place.
"Wow, for just a few photos, Elder Lockwood beat you up this badly?"
Tristan Lockwood glared at him, "Stop talking nonsense."
Clarence Finch hurried to check on the infection.
It was his first ti witnessing Elder Lockwood’s ruthlessness; he really didn’t expect him to be so harsh on his own grandson.
The wounds were so grueso, he couldn’t bear to look.
Fortunately, Claire Hale’s ergency treatnt had been quite effective and prevented the wounds from worsening.
Clarence Finch had a newfound respect for Claire Hale.
After treating Tristan Lockwood, he said to her, "I didn’t expect Elder Lockwood to value you so much. For just a few photos, he could beat Tristan to a pulp."
Claire Hale curled her lips without much emotion, glanced at the ward, and asked, "How is he?"
"It’s tough; he’ll need to recuperate for a few months."
She nodded and turned to leave.
Clarence Finch asked, "Aren’t you staying with Tristan?"
Claire Hale replied, "I don’t want to."
After finishing, she walked away.
Clarence Finch stood there puzzled, thinking, it’s odd; last ti Elder Lockwood had a fever, Claire Hale was quite concerned.
But now she seed completely indifferent.
Just as Claire Hale reached the hospital entrance, Dylan Skinner was returning from outside.
However, she was sowhat absent-minded and didn’t see him.
"Sis!"
Dylan Skinner called out several tis until he approached and tugged on her sleeve, then Claire ca back to her senses.
"Dylan?" She looked at him, "Why are you coming in so late from outside?"
"I’ve been working at night." Dylan Skinner answered truthfully, "Sis, why are you at the hospital so late? Are you feeling unwell?"
"It’s nothing."
Claire Hale wasn’t keen to say more.
Dylan Skinner noticed her mood was a bit low and said, "Then let take you ho."
Claire Hale shook her head, "No need, stay and keep Aunt Sutton company."
"My mom’s already asleep at this hour; I just ca to check on her for peace of mind. Besides, if she knows I’m with you, she’d be very happy."
Dylan Skinner seed obedient but was very swift in his actions.
Without hesitation, he accompanied her outside.
"Sis, rember, I promised to be good to you. Now that you’re not in a good mood, I surely have to be with you."
"I’m not in a bad mood."
Dylan Skinner looked down and studied her earnestly, "But just now, your face was all about being unhappy."
Claire Hale was speechless.
She used to think that she and Tristan Lockwood were alike, born cold-blooded, incapable of loving anyone.
Even if there’s affection, they would prioritize themselves; it’s selfish.
Just like how she liked him.
But today, Tristan Lockwood, to protect Jade Sutton, would rather be beaten to death by Elder Lockwood than say a word.
His stance of standing up for Jade Sutton seed to overlap with the Tristan Lockwood who stood before her at eight years old.
Brave and dazzling.
Yet very distant.
For a mont, Claire Hale realized clearly, the distance between her and Tristan Lockwood seed more than just about love and lack of love.
"Sis, why are you crying?"
Dylan Skinner looked dumbfoundedly at the woman in front of him, standing in the cold wind, her tears falling silently, like she was about to break.
Her tears landing on the back of her hand brought Claire back to the present; she turned away in a panic, wanting to wipe away the tears.
But Dylan suddenly hugged her tightly.
He was tall and lean, almost able to envelop her entirely.
"Sis, if you want to cry but don’t want to be seen, just cry in my arms." Dylan paused then continued, "My embrace can always be there for you."
Claire Hale buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled, "That’s not possible; if you have a girlfriend in the future, you can’t hug ."
"Then I’ll never get a girlfriend."
Dylan Skinner held her tightly.
For so reason, hearing Claire ntion him having a girlfriend made his heart feel empty.
Very uncomfortable.
Claire Hale didn’t want to go ho, so she checked into a suite at the sa five-star hotel as last ti.
This ti, she paid for two years in advance.
"If you look for in the future, co see here."
"Okay."
Dylan obediently agreed.
After entering the room, like last ti, he poured Claire a glass of wine.
The two sat side by side.
Though Dylan Skinner appeared thin, his height made his shoulders wide enough, giving a sense of security.
Claire Hale tilted her head slightly, resting it on his shoulder.
Dylan, initially startled, then noticed her waist softly encircling his again.
Instantly, he blushed and said, "Sis, you’re so close to , I’m afraid I might do sothing inappropriate."
Actually, he was already feeling sothing.
A wave of guilt rose in Dylan Skinner’s heart.
He knew Claire Hale fully regarded him as a younger brother and thus acted without reservation.
Moreover, she was the savior for him and his mom.
How could he have such thoughts about her right after accepting her favor?
He felt utterly shaless!
In a fit of anger, Dylan silently slapped himself.
Claire Hale heard the sound and looked at him puzzled, "What’s wrong with you?"
In that fleeting mont Dylan lowered his gaze, almost unable to resist leaning forward.
From this angle, her almond-shaped eyes appeared particularly large. The usually cool gaze had beco more enchanting and alluring.
Dylan Skinner swallowed, trying to change the subject, "Sis, why were you crying earlier, was it because of your husband?"
ntioning Tristan Lockwood naturally brought a more composed expression to Claire Hale’s face.
Seeing her shift, Dylan knew he shouldn’t say more.
Yet inexplicably, he cautiously continued, "Sis, last ti you told your husband doesn’t love you. But Sis, you must have feelings for your husband."
Otherwise, you wouldn’t hide and cry.
"I don’t."
Claire Hale replied coldly.
Dylan Skinner said, "Then why don’t you want to go ho? A couple with no feelings would be indifferent no matter what the other does, right? But Sis, you clearly seem to care about your husband."
"What do you know?"
Claire Hale suddenly turned cold, distancing herself from him.
