7: Chapter 7 Trust and Distrust 7: Chapter 7 Trust and Distrust Just as Lin Xing disappeared from his bedroom.
Captain Wei had already directed nurous official personnel to converge toward Lin Xing’s residential complex.
But by the ti they arrived, the house was already empty.
“Captain Wei, Xiao Zhang was always watching downstairs, but soone knocked him out.”
“Captain Wei, the door to Lin Xing’s house had been pried open from outside.”
“There are no signs of a fight in the house, but there are signs of rummaging…”
Listening to one report after another, Captain Wei gradually developed a hypothesis, “Soone wanted to find sothing in Lin Xing’s house.
But then the door appeared.”
“No signs of a fight, only signs of rummaging, that suggests Lin Xing didn’t encounter anyone?
Had he entered the door before the intruder got inside, going to the Mirror World?”
While a large group of people were conducting various searches in Lin Xing’s house, Captain Wei received another phone call.
“Another signal from the door detected?
Where?”
“Right near you!”
Captain Wei quickly motioned to everyone, “Everyone be alert!
The door is about to open again…”
As he was arranging his team, a figure suddenly appeared at the doorway of Lin Xing’s bedroom.
Those present instinctively drew their handguns, all aiming at this sudden arrival.
The person being aid at, Lin Xing, quickly threw away his sickle and raised his hands, “I was just defending myself, I…” He looked around at the familiar scene, astonished, “I’m back?”
Captain Wei walked up to him, saying with a peculiar expression, “Lin Xing, it seems we need to take you in again.”
…
This ti, Lin Xing wasn’t taken to an interrogation room but followed Captain Wei into a eting room.
“Lin, feel free to sit.
We’d like to understand so things from you.”
Beside Captain Wei, an elderly man chuckled, “Lin, there’s no pressure; we’re just having a casual chat.”
The elderly man continued, “Let introduce myself first, my na is Lv Ming, one of the heads of the Quantum Intelligence Research Institute in East Sea City.”
He pointed at Captain Wei and added, “This is Wei Zhi, our institute’s capable officer.”
“Nice to et you, I’m not nervous, but I am very worried,” Lin Xing said gravely to the two n.
“There’s a sinister force deliberately and systematically trying to kill , and there have been three attempts already.”
“Although they’ve all failed, each murder attempt was more vicious and ruthless than the last, exactly showing that I’ve hit their weak spot.”
“I suspect it has to do with the calamity I revealed that would occur a year from now and this sinister force wanting to murder ; they beca desperate enough to try anything to silence …”
Listening to Lin Xing’s lengthy explanation, Wei Zhi only felt a headache coming on, but the elderly Lv Ming kept a cheerful tone, “Lin, don’t rush; take your ti and tell us what exactly happened at your house today.”
“People wanted to kill ; that person had a gun and could even pry open our door lock.”
“I had intended to run to the bedroom balcony to call for help, but then I was teleported to a village…”
“I kept running, constantly being killed by that old man…”
“My doll that could talk, he told things about ‘techniques,’ do you understand?”
“Later I fought back against that old man, kept dying, kept learning, until…”
“Suddenly, I just got it, feeling my body had grown stronger…”
“Then I suddenly received an influx of information in my mind, I rembered things about skills and inheritance…”
“Skills, how should I put it?
It’s when you keep learning and practicing sothing until you master it as a skill.”
“Once a skill is mastered, your body becos a bit more formidable.”
“After mastering enough strong skills, you can comprehend inheritance; it should probably make you even more formidable…”
Neither the old man nor Wei Zhi interrupted Lin Xing; however, Wei Zhi looked skeptical, while the old man listened very attentively, occasionally jotting down so information.
After Lin Xing finished speaking, the old man said, “Thank you, Lin, for the information you’ve provided; it’s very enlightening for us.”
“Please wait here for a mont.
I need to verify so details with my colleagues, and there might be a few things I need to consult with you later.”
After leaving the conference room, Wei Zhi imdiately said, “That’s total madness.”
He looked at Director Lv, who was still reviewing his notes, and asked, “Director Lv, you don’t really believe what he said, do you?”
Lv Ming responded, “You might find his words hard to believe, but you must admit, Lin Xing does have sothing extraordinary about him, so even if you don’t believe him, you can’t treat his words as re madness.”
“Moreover, our current understanding of Mirror World is still too superficial.”
“Let’s go, the other side should have finished their investigation by now.
We’ll combine the information from Lin Xing and see if we can find any clues…”
…
Director Lv and Wei Zhi entered another conference room, where several colleagues were already waiting.
Soon, nurous pieces of evidence and investigation results were presented before them.
“According to the statent of transmigrator number three, he didn’t know Lin Xing before he arrived at East Sea University’s academic building.
His purpose for crossing the door was to loot treasures in the ‘secret realms’…”
“From the traces in Lin Xing’s house, the front door lock was picked, and the room showed signs of being searched, but no valuables were missing; the perpetrator wasn’t a common burglar…”
“Residents of the neighborhood reported that their mobile signals were indeed interrupted at that ti…”
“The sickle Lin Xing brought back has been examined, and the blood on it is confird to be human…”
“The doll has also been checked—it just seems to be a regular doll…”
After listening to the nurous reports from his subordinates, Wei Zhi looked at Director Lv and said, “The situation is quite similar to our previous speculations, the fight in the academic building between Lin Xing and transmigrator number three seems to be coincidental.”
“The person who infiltrated Lin Xing’s house wasn’t targeting Lin Xing but was looking for sothing in his ho.”
“As for Lin Xing’s claim about an organization trying to harm him, I think it’s just his misconception.”
Lv Ming turned to another man and asked, “Professor Fang, what do you think about the pattern of these door openings?”
The man known as Professor Fang, immaculate in a suit and with ticulously combed hair, pushed up his glasses and calmly said, “Since a year ago, the frequency of the doors’ openings has been increasing, but there has never been a case where a person encountered two door openings within just a short two days.”
“In the case at East Sea University, the location of the door’s opening changed twice within a short period, and both tis were around Lin Xing.”
“Although we still cannot ascertain that these anomalies are directly related to Lin Xing, just this evidence makes it necessary to keep him under long-term observation.”
“Especially since he has already entered Mirror World once, the intelligence from there is of imnse value.”
After pausing briefly, Professor Fang continued, “And I think you all might have noticed one thing—Lin Xing’s ntal state also seems sowhat unusual; his talk of ti reversal and supernatural organizations points to this.”
“Based on the intelligence we’ve gathered so far, natives of Mirror World tend to have so ntal issues.
Lin Xing’s ntal state might have been affected by Mirror World, and this could be linked to the unusual occurrences of the door openings around him.”
Listening to Professor Fang’s statent, Wei Zhi said, “If he is really connected to the anomalous door openings and his ntal state is unstable, then it’s too dangerous to have him out there.”
Professor Fang gently pushed his glasses and stated lightly, “So I suggest…like transmigrators one, two, and three, we should detain Lin Xing here for long-term observation.
The secrets he holds might significantly advance our research into Mirror World.”
