The sound of the bell echoed in the spacious hall, its reverberations lingering.

The sound of the water harp disappeared, and the staircase dripped rhythmically. Before anyone could grasp the situation, the assistant lunged forward, pinning down the convulsing Oogami Nui, calling for others to help.

Minamoto Tamako reacted the fastest, rushing over to hold down Oogami Nui’s arm. Although she didn’t know what was happening, she trusted that the assistant wouldn’t harm the captain, just as she wouldn’t harm Mr. Fushimi.

Ono Ken followed closely, helping to pin the other arm. Fushimi Roku and Nakako stood nearby watching, the forr with furrowed brows, the latter with a face full of terror.

They watched as the assistant pulled out a bottle of light green potion from his pouch, bit off the cap, pried open Oogami Nui’s mouth, and poured the potion in.

A mont later, Oogami Nui’s rolled-back eyes gradually returned to normal, and her throat made gurgling retching sounds... Ono Ken and Minamoto Tamako, crouching on either side, watched as her chest gradually swelled, her throat bulged like a frog’s, slowly moving upward until she vomited out a large pool of water with a gasp.

Drip... Drip drip...

The expelled liquid was clear, with green duckweed and a red carp flopping on the wooden floor.

Oogami Nui coughed twice, gasped for air, and finally cald down, her voice returning to normal. The assistant draped a blanket over her, letting her sit on the sofa to rest.

Nakako stared at Oogami Nui, her gaze anxious, asking what exactly had happened. The latter nestled on the sofa, eyes sunken, claiming that Fushimi Roku had disrupted the Spirit Summoning Ceremony, leading to an evil spirit’s backlash. To protect everyone, she had no choice but to bear the curse of the evil spirit alone.

Monts ago, she was attacked by the deceased Akishino Mako, and the vomit on the ground was the best evidence.

Miss Akishino died by drowning, and she would ensure the sa fate for the possessed.

Hearing this, the others instinctively turned to look at Fushimi Roku. Before he could defend himself, Minamoto Tamako was the first to ask, "But, but, why was the assistant hiding in the chimney? And what about that signal transmitter?"

Oogami Nui closed her eyes, seemingly disdainful of answering.

The assistant chuckled bitterly and explained that it was all to fool outsiders. In fact, Mrs. Oogami could have typed the keys personally, transcribing the whispers of the deceased. But rely doing so wouldn’t be convincing; everyone would think she was acting. Reluctantly, the assistant proposed ’remote typing,’ creating an illusion of a spirit’s appearance, thus making onlookers believe that Mrs. Oogami had successfully communicated with the spirit.

It’s just like in the service industry, making consurs feel their money is well spent; the hairdresser pretends to trim after finishing the cut, cooking dinner calls for flamboyant titles like ’Rice Deity,’ or claims like ’A century-old stew’ and ’Secret recipe ran deity’ or ’ticulously crafted fried rice’...

Ultimately, it’s a marketing tactic.

But Mrs. Oogami is different from other frauds; she has genuine skills. If Nakako is dissatisfied, they are willing to pay compensation, and pretend today never happened, with Wulin Temple’s evil spirits unrelated to them.

"This... there’s no satisfying or not satisfying..."

Nakako was tornted by her daughter’s last words. Learning that her daughter didn’t die by suicide, even if it was just the whisper of a spirit, she wanted to know the truth and couldn’t help but beseech Mrs. Oogami to communicate with the spirits once more.

Oogami Nui glanced sideways at Fushimi Roku, hoarsely saying, "The wandering souls here are restless; they’ve caught the scent of the living... I warned you, but so people don’t listen."

Everyone understood who ’so people’ referred to.

Fushimi Roku initially wanted to refute, but upon reconsideration, realized it was unnecessary.

Arguing would only displease Nakako, so he straightforwardly admitted his lack of skill, failing to perceive Mrs. Oogami’s profound Spirit Communication Technique, brushing it off casually without ntioning any apology.

Minamoto Tamako quickly gave him a signal with her eyes, indicating he should say ’sorry’ for the wrongdoings. Fushimi Roku pretended not to notice; his mood was too troubled to care, feeling uncomfortable since arriving at this cursed place.

Nakako also didn’t have the mind to quibble. She pleaded with Oogami Nui to communicate with the spirits once more, suggesting that the cost could be discussed. Oogami Nui shook her head, delivering the classic line: "It’s not about money."

"Please, just tell , whatever the requirent, I will do my utmost to et it," Nakako said earnestly.

Oogami Nui bowed her head, burying her face in the shadow of the blanket, "I’m afraid you can’t fulfill this... it’s not my request, but the demand of the souls lingering here... They’ve rembered that man’s scent; only by offering him as a sacrifice to the spirits can this old house be pacified."

Upon hearing this, everyone wore complex expressions, and Minamoto Tamako looked particularly worried.

Of course, Nakako couldn’t sacrifice anyone alive, even if Fushimi Roku was a stranger; she couldn’t commit such an act, and thus gently asked if there was another way to negotiate.

Oogami Nui stayed silent, with the assistant speaking on her behalf, stating that the reason this old house could trap so many wandering spirits was because it was drawing ’Royal Energy’ from the hoowner, exploiting the royal energy for power. If one wants to conduct spirit communication again, the root of the issue must be solved by severing Wulin Temple’s royal energy...

In simple terms, make Nakako transfer the ownership of the old house to soone else, preferably soone with spiritual power and a strong life destiny.

Although the assistant didn’t explicitly say it, everyone understood the implication—leave the professional work to professionals. If this is a haunted house, then let a Spirit dium suppress it!

After the assistant eloquently finished explaining, Oogami Nui spoke again, decisively asserting that she could ensure another successful communication with the spirit, fulfilling Miss Akishino’s final wish and allowing her to ascend peacefully.

Nakako was about to readily agree but was intercepted by Ono Ken, who interjected, "This matter is significant; please let the lady consider it further..."

Oogami Nui remained indifferent, curled up on the sofa, without a word.

Seeing this, Ono Ken took the opportunity to pull Mistress aside, bringing her back to her bedroom under the pretense of resting for a while, promising to return shortly and asking the guests to make themselves comfortable.

Fushimi Roku could easily guess that the two won went to the bedroom to discuss. He didn’t want to linger in the living room, so he casually found an excuse to go out for so fresh air. Minamoto Tamako, worried for his safety, quickly followed, with the two leaving the hall one after the other.

The two stood under the veranda, rain falling from the eaves, a curtain of water before their eyes.

Minamoto Tamako tilted her head, carefully observed his expression, and softly asked, "Are you angry?"

"Not at all," Fushimi Roku shrugged.

Being threatened to be sacrificed by a spiritual charlatan, how could he be mad over such a trifle?
