At dawn, a new police line was set up around the Sugamo Apartnt building.

The riot squad ca fully ard to suppress any potential revolt. The entire first division of the search unit was mobilized, accompanied by a large number of officers to carry out arrests. It took five police cars over ten trips to bring all the lawbreakers into custody.

The police sealed off the underground nightclub, with all minor crooks ending up in detention. As for the higher-ups, they had crafty lawyers to assist in their defense, leading to endless investigations, evidence collection, and disputes... But it goes without saying that the murder charge against Ishii Takamasa would not be upheld.

Regarding the massacre at Sugamo Apartnt, Kaga Keido announced the end of the investigation. The truth matched his expectations closely; Nagashima Takeshi and his group were silenced by the gang. Due to the difficulty in gathering evidence, the search departnt ultimately concluded the case as suicides.

Fushimi Roku was quite satisfied with this outco; his elaborate tale was ant to imply to Kaga Keido that ’Ishii Takamasa knew Nagashima Takeshi had betrayed him’—from there, he didn’t need to say much more, as Kaga Keido would naturally continue along this line of thought.

During the transcript, Kaga Keido asked how he managed to take down eight ard n. Fushimi Roku said it was due to his good luck. When they fired, they revealed their positions, so all he had to do was quietly maneuver around, jab so joints, and anyone could take down eight reckless shooters in the dark.

"And how did you pierce their cartilage?"

Kaga Keido was skeptical, believing Fushimi Roku was hiding sothing. Those people were handpicked professional killers; even if they lost sight, they wouldn’t fire randomly into the air.

"I’m naturally strong," Fushimi Roku replied.

Determined to play dumb, Fushimi Roku left Kaga Keido with nothing to say. In the interrogation room, Kaga Keido racked his brains for half a day, unable to find anything to pin on this guy despite all his misdeeds.

Kaga Keido couldn’t even charge Fushimi Roku with dereliction of duty; legally speaking, what he did last night was indeed part of a policeman’s duty: investigating a murder case, conducting impromptu interrogations, making ergency arrests... The only issue was his disrespect for superiors, but that couldn’t be openly addressed.

With a pile of other annoying matters to deal with, he didn’t have the ti or energy to argue with Fushimi Roku. After finishing the transcripts, he let Fushimi Roku and Kazama Tatsuya go.

As soon as the two stepped out of the police station, they saw Watanabe Shun squatting by the roadside with a hat on, looking like a hooligan.

Kazama Tatsuya let out a heavy sigh of relief.

He had stayed up for two nights, one eye bloodshot. He quickly walked over and grabbed Watanabe Shun’s neck, forcefully kicking him in the butt.

Watanabe Shun looked aggrieved, trying to dodge but couldn’t.

He had lain in an outfield warehouse for a day and a night without any issue. When the police ca to rescue him, he was on his stomach watching ants move enthusiastically... When questioned by the police, Watanabe Shun was clueless, looking completely bewildered. Once released, he asked a forr colleague about the happenings of the previous night.

The Inakawa father and son were poisoned...

The innocent hostess was murdered...

Internal shift within the Inakawa Association...

But what did all this have to do with him, Watanabe Shun? He hadn’t done anything!

At the ti, he was cleaning dishes at the station after eating and drinking, when suddenly two strong n kidnapped him and shaved off his proud pompadour... Watanabe Shun felt distressed, unable to face people until his hair grew back.

Worse still, he couldn’t sue the guy nad Sazaki Gen— the other party was lying in the ICU, and a lawyer had already sent a letter to Watanabe Shun, claiming that shaving soone’s hair wasn’t a cri, at most violating public security managent policies, resulting in only a warning and a fine.

As for the kidnapping, it was entirely fabricated. Apparently, Watanabe Shun had voluntarily entered the party’s warehouse, prompting retaliation. It was already decent that he wasn’t pursued for trespassing!

Watanabe Shun was infuriated, but when the lawyer promised a fine of one hundred Ten Thousand Yen, on the condition of signing a settlent and dropping the appeal, he found himself less angry...

Once the lawyer paid him an additional two hundred Ten Thousand Yen as ’emotional distress compensation’, asking him to recall the night’s events, Watanabe Shun felt his mory indeed seed a bit muddled...

Watanabe Shun didn’t see this as accepting a bribe; since he had suffered, it was rightful compensation!

Pompadour, your sacrifice was worth it!

With the money in his hands, Watanabe Shun happily bought himself a new hat, had a barbeque with Grade A wagyu beef, and after finishing ca to the station to pick people up— he’d heard the boss and Fushimi Roku were still making statents at the station—truly pitiful, not even knowing if they’d had dinner.

Initially, Watanabe Shun intended to ask the boss for a two-month leave, returning to the station once his hair grew back. Yet, upon their first eting, he got kicked and couldn’t bring himself to ntion the leave.

After venting, Kazama Tatsuya took out a pack of smokes, drew a slim one, and protected it with the lighter’s fla, sparked briefly, then realized his lighter was out of oil.

With a click, Watanabe Shun held up a lighter, shielding the fla, and bent over to light it for him.

Kazama Tatsuya glanced at him, asking, "What’s with the hat?"

"Wanted to try a new hairstyle..."

Before Watanabe Shun could finish, Fushimi Roku suddenly snatched the hat off his head. A cold wind blew, and the three of them exchanged looks, with Kazama Tatsuya staring at Watanabe Shun’s newly shaven head, montarily speechless.

Looking at Watanabe Shun’s face fraught with embarrassnt and fury, Kazama Tatsuya felt compelled to comfort his subordinate. He held back for a while and finally said, "It’s good that you’re back, and okay... The new hairstyle is quite refreshing, really spirited."

Watanabe Shun felt torn; unable to vent his anger at the boss, he directed it at Fushimi Roku. Truthfully, it wasn’t misdirected, since it was Fushimi Roku’s mischievous act of taking his hat that left him without any shred of dignity!

"You punk! Stand right there! Give back my hat!" Watanabe Shun shouted fiercely, his tongue rolling in anger.

"Sure, by the way, your new hairstyle is really sharp, senpai."

"You did it on purpose, didn’t you?"

"No, absolutely not."

"You totally did! Apologize, apologize right now!"

"Surryi..."

"Your tone is so insincere! Hey—don’t ignore ! Where are you going—"

Fushimi Roku sowhat regretted it, thinking in hindsight he should have left it to Kazama Tatsuya to remove Watanabe Shun’s hat instead of ddling.

He jogged off, with Watanabe Shun in pursuit. The previous night’s snow had stopped, leaving the streets clad in white; the winter morning was exceptionally clean. Kazama Tatsuya squinted, taking a deep draw on his cigarette, watching them quarrel as they darted away.

"Boss, what’s up?" Watanabe Shun called back.

"Nothing."

He exhaled a misty breath, dispelling the tangle and annoyance from his chest, shoved his hands into his pockets, and strode briskly after them.
