The press conference scene.

Asai Ayumi, beautiful and curvaceous, stood on the steps in her crisp uniform, confidently and fluently addressing the crowd of reporters below without a trace of stage fright.

In light of the urgent nature of the matter, the Police Headquarters did not arrange the press conference in the auditorium but directly outside the headquarters’ main entrance, where a group of journalists surrounded the steps below.

"After a long-term investigation, we have now obtained conclusive evidence that the Noguchi Group is involved in drug trafficking. Nozaki Masao will soon be prosecuted. Anyone who dares challenge the baseline of the law will eventually be punished!"

Following her impassioned speech, Asai Ayumi bowed slightly towards the crowd below to signify the end of her remarks.

"Clap clap clap clap clap clap!"

The sound of thunderous applause erupted in the venue.

"Asai, ’a chip off the old block,’ indeed. Your family truly lives up to its reputation as a police dynasty, raising such exceptional children," Police Director General Kuniaki said, gently clapping as he spoke to Asai Youki.

Asai Youki modestly shifted his body to reply in a gesture of respect, "Not at all, Director, you give us too much credit. She’s just a young girl who’s barely begun her career. There’s so much more for her to learn."

"A young girl, you say? Heh, Ayumi has made quite a na for herself as a formidable detective goddess. Her future achievents should not be underestimated," Director Kuniaki laughed, ceasing his applause and casually saying, "Erlang is returning from abroad at the end of the month. He called the other day asking about Ayumi. If it’s convenient, please bring her over to visit our house soti, so the young people can interact more. What do you think, Asai?"

"Yes, sir!" responded Asai Youki, understanding the implication of Kuniaki’s words. Both professionally and personally, he was quite happy to facilitate this, "We’ll definitely co by for a visit."

"Police Chief Asai, if I rember correctly, you recently cracked down on the Sakura Formation’s drug case and now you’ve discovered the Noguchi Group’s trafficking. Does this indicate that drug trafficking by Violent Gangs is a widespread issue?" a reporter stood up and asked Asai Ayumi, "Could you share your thoughts on this?"

Asai Ayumi smiled politely, nodded slightly in acknowledgnt, and then replied, "I am a police officer who values truth and facts. Currently, we have not yet discovered any other Violent Gangs involved in drug trafficking."

"What if it were large groups like the Yamaguchi Group or the Daokuan Association suspected of trafficking? Would you also pursue the investigation to the end despite the pressure?" the reporter pressed on.

"Sorry, I’m not sure what kind of pressure you’re referring to," Asai Ayumi shook her head gently before asserting confidently, "But I can promise that no matter the individual or group, as long as they’re suspected of a cri, I will investigate thoroughly according to the law!"

"Click! Click! Click!"

Shutter noises filled the air as photographers captured the mont; Asai Ayumi’s resolute and just gaze was immortalized by the cara lenses.

Next up was Director Renping to speak.

Asai Ayumi didn’t stay to listen as she hurriedly left for the hotel opposite the Police Headquarters without a mont’s pause.

Asai Youki watched her leave with a frown, considering following her but then thinking of Director Renping, who was still speaking on stage, he felt it inappropriate to leave.

Moreover, it was almost his turn to go up there and respond to the shootout and explosion that occurred on the highway that evening.

Upon reaching the hotel, Asai Ayumi called Aoyama Xiu Xin, her voice low, "Which room number?"

"2020, the door’s open."

Asai Ayumi hung up the phone, took a deep breath as she faced the hotel’s grand doors, and walked inside.

Finding room 2020 with its door ajar as promised, Asai Ayumi pushed the door open, entered, and closed it behind her. She crossed the entryway into the living room and saw Aoyama Xiu Xin in a white robe, holding a glass of red wine while standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. The window directly overlooked the Police Headquarters’ main entrance, perfectly framing the press conference scene from above.

When Aoyama Xiu Xin heard soone enter, he turned around.

Asai Ayumi hadn’t expected his sudden movent; she instinctively lowered her gaze as her eyes t his.

"Ha," Aoyama Xiu Xin laughed, shaking the wine glass in his hand as he stepped forward, lifting Asai Ayumi’s smooth chin with a finger, "Earlier, Police Chief Asai faced all those reporters and high-ranking officials without flinching, so spirited and confident. Yet now, in front of , you avert your eyes and appear so timid. Could it be that I, a re Patrol Chief, am more frightening than they are?"

He might not have been able to persuade Nozaki Masao tonight.

But getting through to Asai Ayumi was also pleasing.

"You... quit the nonsense. Whatever you want to do, just do it quickly," said Asai Ayumi, her cheeks flushed, her hands gripping the hem of her trousers tightly, mustering the courage to et Aoyama Xiu Xin’s gaze as her heart pounded.

Her deanor now, in stark contrast to the confident and impressive female officer at the press conference, was like that of another person entirely.

Aoyama Xiu Xin took a step closer and whispered in her ear, his breath hot, "I really want to pick you up."

"Pick up... for what?"

Aoyama Xiu Xin nodded affirmatively and said with certainty, "Yes, ’pick you up’ to do it."

"You!" Asai Ayumi was both embarrassed and annoyed, too tired of the nonsense to argue, reaching for her own clothes, pretending to be impatient, "If you really want to, then get on with it."

"Don’t undress," Aoyama Xiu Xin held her hand.

Asai Ayumi looked up at him, puzzled.

"I know you feel resistant towards , and it would be humiliating to undress in front of your superior as a subordinate. Plus, these clothes should give you a sense of security, so keep them on. It will make you feel better," Aoyama Xiu Xin solemnly suggested.

Asai Ayumi hadn’t expected that the man wouldn’t humiliate and toy with her as she had imagined, and that he would show unexpected gentleness, making her feel oddly uncomfortable.

"Hey! Thank you." Asai Ayumi pursed her red lips, bent at the waist, and bowed, her crimson ears clearly visible.

People are different; so people of the sa age are still bowing and scraping to their leaders, while others are making leaders bow and scrape to them.

By the end of the reporter eting, Aoyama Xiu Xin was also finished, lying comfortably on the bed, satiated with food and drink, and earnestly complinted Asai Ayumi, who was tidying her hair, "Our Asai Police Chief is really a person who is cold on the outside but warm on the inside, tough outside but tender-hearted inside."

After this incident, the two would beco the best partners who deeply understood each other’s warmth and coldness, down to the very roots.

Asai Ayumi glared at him fiercely, straightened her crumpled police uniform, and then was about to leave.

"Stop right there!" Aoyama Xiu Xin commanded sharply.

Asai Ayumi stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him.

Aoyama Xiu Xin said with a smile that was not quite a smile, "Is the upbringing of the Asakai family so poor that Asai Police Chief doesn’t know what politeness is? Just walking away like that?"

"Don’t insult the Asakai family!" Asai Ayumi glared angrily.

Aoyama Xiu Xin faced her calmly with an open expression.

In the end, Asai Ayumi admitted defeat, swallowing her humiliation as she bent at the waist to bow, "Mr. Aoyama, you’ve worked hard. Please rest well. Ling will take her leave now, see you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow," Aoyama Xiu Xin replied with a smile.

Only then did Asai Ayumi rise and leave the hotel.

"Where have you been? The Director was just looking to have a word with you," Asai Youki hurried toward his daughter with a frown of reproach.

Asai Ayumi touched her lower abdon and, feeling guilty, couldn’t quite et her father’s eyes. She pursed her red lips and said, "I was feeling a bit unwell in my stomach just now."

"Really? How are you feeling now? Are you feeling better now?" Asai Youki asked with imdiate concern.

Asai Ayumi’s pretty face blushed, "I’m feeling better now."

"That’s good, let’s go ho," Asai Youki sighed with relief after hearing his daughter was fine, and while walking towards the parking lot continued, "At the end of the month, Director Renping’s second son is returning to the country. He’s invited us over and it seems he wants to set you up with his second son, Erlang. You two played together as children, and I think it’s a good..."

"Dad," Asai Ayumi interrupted him, frowning prettily, "Right now, I just want to do my job well."

And moreover, concerning the matter of marriage, she would have to ask Aoyama Xiu Xin if he liked married won before proceeding.

Otherwise, she may never get married in this lifeti.

"Idiot! That damned Aoyama Xiu Xin!"

At ho, Sato Rich, dressed in his pajamas and sitting on the sofa, grabbed a teacup from the table and smashed it.

Just half an hour ago, as he was deep in sleep, he was abruptly awakened by a call from a Police Headquarters leader, who severely chastised him about the capture of Nozaki Masao that night.

He was utterly confused, nodding and bowing as he hung up the call and promptly had his subordinates investigate; only then did he learn that Nozaki Masao had been arrested tonight by the Shinjuku Police Station on charges of trafficking.

Hearing the words "Shinjuku Police Station," he could guess by just using his toes that it was definitely Aoyama Xiu Xin, abusing his na to cause trouble and attract hatred towards him.

After learning the truth, he was also furious at the leader who chastised him without understanding the situation; his own dog being killed without knowing who did it, and still biting randomly.

Sato Rich, feeling increasingly wronged as he endured, and more furious as he stepped back, directly called back the leader with a tone that seed respectful but was actually laced with sarcasm, "Police Chief, I apologize for disturbing your rest so late, but as I understand it, there’s no instruction from regarding Nozaki Masao’s arrest. Perhaps there’s so misunderstanding? Please make sure to investigate thoroughly!"

He had people backing him too, and he did not particularly like this leader, so he didn’t want to endure such unjust treatnt.

"..." After a mont of silence on the other end, a languid female voice ca through, "Sato, I’ve just cleared up the situation. I know you’re calling back upset, and I know you have a point, but let’s not talk about what’s right for now, let’s set aside the facts. Even if I’m ninety-nine percent responsible, don’t you have one percent of fault? Alright, I won’t delve into it too much. Reflect on it. If you still have complaints, co to my office tomorrow to discuss it."

"Beep. Beep. Beep." Listening to the busy signal from the receiver, Sato, who had intended the call to vent his anger, grew even more enraged, "Idiot, damn it!"

This nopausal old hag!

Seething with anger, his hands trembling, he dialed Takahashi Tomoyuki’s ho phone number. Once through, he gritted his teeth and said, "I’ll start duty tomorrow. I want Aoyama Xiu Xin dead! I want him dead! Dead!"

With a clang, he hung up the phone.

Leaning on the table with both hands, he gasped for breath heavily.

Aoyama Xiu Xin!

If I can’t deal with her, can’t I deal with you?
