"The things between us have nothing to do with Vera."

"Nothing to do with her, huh?" Jane Shea stood up, snickering, "Miles Monroe, why do you think I wanted to elope abroad with you?"

"Because of Vera." Jane walked up to him, "You never considered how I felt having soone like Vera, who’s from a better background, excels in every aspect, and is all about you, by your side!"

"Jane, at that ti, I had no idea Vera liked ..."

"If you knew, would you still choose ?" Jane sneered, "You could be with then out of responsibility, why can’t you do the sa now?"

Jane jabbed his chest, "Because you’ve finally realized Vera’s more important to you than , right?"

Miles looked exhausted, "There’s never been Vera between us, you aren’t soone who prioritizes emotions. We’ve both changed over the years, why can’t you just let go?"

"I haven’t changed!" Jane glared at him with anger, "The one who changed is you! I thought we were just in a cold war, yet you happily prepare a wedding with Vera! What do these years between us an?"

"Maybe you’ve never changed, I just didn’t see it clearly." Miles showed a pale smile, "The night Grandpa Yves passed away, Vera called many tis, I didn’t get to answer, I think it’s your fault."

"What does her grandfather’s death have to do with you? Why would she call you?"

"Grandpa Yves watched grow up, he was very important to , why wouldn’t you even let take such a call?"

"Because I was scared! Scared you’d answer that call and rush back to her side without hesitation, then realize it’s actually her you love!"

"So, the night Vera was kidnapped, you didn’t let answer Yates Abbott’s call right away either."

Jane remained silent.

"That’s our difference, maybe we were never ant to be."

Miles regained his composure, "Dr. Lewis said you haven’t visited him for over a week."

"I said if you don’t co to see , I won’t see him. Do you think I’m joking with you?"

"Don’t joke about your health." Miles looked at her, his gaze cold and distant, "You’ve always said you love your career most; stop taking these gigs, it’s self-destructive."

"Do you care?"

"What’s important is if you care." Miles walked to the door.

Jane sneered, "Miles Monroe, you and Vera will never work out. Winston Valentine, that kind of man, as long as he doesn’t let go, Vera won’t escape! He’s more terrifying than you think!"

...

After sending Linda Young ho, it was already past midnight.

Winston Valentine sat next to Vera Yves, instructing the driver to take them back to the villa.

"Is that what she usually calls ?"

Vera felt a bit guilty, "Occasionally."

Winston sneered, "Do you call that too?"

Vera shook her head; though she never called him that, she had thought it countless tis.

"You really are a jerk." Vera whispered.

Winston laughed in anger, "Who isn’t a jerk? Miles? You think he goes to bars for what?"

Vera’s face darkened, she instructed the driver to head to The Yves Family, but the driver pretended not to hear, the car continued smoothly.

Winston raised the divider.

"What, we can’t even talk about it?"

Vera was too lazy to engage, "I’m still on my period, the villa lacks everything, what’s the point of going there?"

"Can’t you just buy it?" Winston leaned closer, "Is that all you think we do when together?"

Vera glared at him, haven’t you done it enough?

Eventually, Winston instructed the driver to stop at a 24-hour convenience store, Vera intended to go herself, but Winston held her back, "Stay put."

Vera gazed outside at the dark night, lost in thought, suddenly rembering the first pack of sanitary pads she ever had was bought by Miles Monroe.

It was a calm weekend; she was about to enter middle school, so during that ti, he often tutored her.

After eating a slice of waterlon, her stomach started to hurt, discovering blood in the bathroom, only to find no sanitary pads at ho.

Miles saw blood on the chair, knocked on the bathroom door, and asked if there was any inside.

Summoning her courage, she said there wasn’t, he told her to wait.

After half an hour, he finally returned.

She opened the bathroom door slightly, he handed over the items, having even read the instructions, patiently explaining how to use them.

He was always considerate like that.

Winston ca back with a bag, placing it at Vera’s feet, "I bought every kind, is that considerate enough?"

Vera snapped back to reality, he placed a hand warr into her palm, "The clerk said it’d be more comfortable if you stick it to your belly."

Though her nstruation rarely discomforted her, Vera still placed the hand warr on her abdon, letting its warmth spread.

When they returned to the villa, Chelsea Valentine had already arrived with her child.

Theo Hughes was six this year; Vera had t him a few tis before, the little one quite liked her, he eyed her with sleepy eyes, calling out, "Third Aunt."

Vera walked up to him, smiling, ruffling his hair, replying softly.

Winston and Chelsea went up to the guest room, while Vera stayed with Theo on the couch; the little one was already very sleepy.

Vera noticed Theo’s pale face, realizing he looked much thinner than before, she instinctively reached out, feeling his wrist.

Thinking she’d made a mistake, she grabbed his other wrist, a dark expression forming.

Theo leaned against Vera, quickly falling asleep.

Winston and Chelsea ca downstairs; Chelsea picked Theo up, "Vera, once Jasper Hughes and I have divorced, I’ll move out with Toby."

Vera smiled, "This is Winston’s house, I’m not living here, you guys can stay as long as you want."

Chelsea looked a bit surprised at this, Winston’s expression remained unchanged, taking Theo upstairs.

Vera and Chelsea followed him, Chelsea apologetically said, "Vera, I’m sorry you had to witness such a scene."

Vera shook her head.

Back in the bedroom, Vera hesitated, looking at Winston, he loosened his tie, seeing her conflicted expression, his heart skipped a beat.

"Winston..."

Vera barely spoke before Winston approached, kissing her without a word.

Vera frowned, struggling to push him away.

Winston held her face, "Do you think handing the house back to clears you from our ties?"

"It was always your house." Vera was puzzled, "You spent three hundred million to buy it back from , rember?"

"Do you know why I bought the villa back?" Winston fixed his gaze on her, "Tell honestly, if the house stayed with you, would you have thrown away everything related to ?"
