The guest list for Madeleine’s birthday gathering was not extensive. Besides Steve Burton, Rusell Henris, Edward Woods, Howard Coleman, and Ruby Gregory, there were so other friends from Ciawell with whom she usually got along well.
Madeleine arrived relatively early. When she entered the private room, only Rusell Henris and Edward Woods were there. She introduced Andrew Henris to them once again.
Andrew Henris was quite conversational, and Rusell Henris and Edward Woods politely chatted with him. Sitting quietly aside, Madeleine listened, occasionally interjecting a comnt. anwhile, Howard Coleman sat not far away, holding a magazine, appearing to be reading yet also seeming distracted, never speaking a word from beginning to end.
As people gradually arrived, the room beca livelier. Since everyone except Andrew Henris knew each other, every ti soone wished Madeleine a happy birthday, she would introduce Andrew Henris to them.
So of her female friends, who were relatively close to Madeleine, couldn’t help but take a few more glances at Andrew Henris and then leaned in to whisper teasingly in Madeleine’s ear, “New boyfriend?”
Madeleine smiled without saying a word, simply waiting for everyone to arrive before gesturing to The Sapphire Bistro’s waiter to start serving the food.
At the dinner table, Andrew Henris sat closely beside Madeleine. It being her birthday, it was inevitable that she’d drink so alcohol. Andrew Henris either advised her to drink less or took drinks on her behalf, and after she drank, he would put food on her plate. When the steaming hot pork rib soup was brought out by the waiter, he even personally served a bowl for Madeleine.
The dinner conversation often veered toward gossip, and seeing Andrew Henris’s attentive manner, combined with the effects of alcohol, soone couldn’t help but tease Madeleine, “Ms. Madeleine, you’re still not admitting that Mr. Henris is your boyfriend. Look how attentive he is to you.”
“Ms. Madeleine, you’re not getting any younger, when do you consider getting married?”
Madeleine kept her lips pursed and smiled without saying a word, and soone turned to ask Andrew Henris. He straightforwardly told the truth, “As long as Madeleine agrees, I’m ready to move back to Ciawell anyti, to take care of her for life.”
Andrew Henris spoke sincerely, causing the table to erupt in encouragents, followed by Madeleine’s friends teasingly urging her, “Madeleine, he’s willing to return to Ciawell for you, such a man is truly rare to find.”
