Chapter 919: Chapter 919 Learning to Refuse (9)_1
Madeleine felt she had a wonderful dream.
In the dream, Howard was just as she had hoped, falling in love with her and cherishing her as if she were a treasured jewel.
The dream was so wonderful that she didn’t want to wake up, wishing she could just sleep forever.
But the mont the sunlight hit her eyes, she slowly opened them.
Madeleine raised her hand, subconsciously wanting to rub her eyelids, only to find her arm tightly held by soone. She furrowed her brows in effort and noticed that her legs were being pressed down and a warm hand lay on her abdon.
She lay in bed, stunned for a full five minutes, before slowly turning her head. The handso face of Howard gradually ca into her view.
It was as if a bolt of lightning struck Madeleine’s head, leaving her brain blank. After a long while, a thought erged: it turned out, she wasn’t dreaming but it was real. She and Howard had indeed slept together… and she clearly rembered that when Howard kissed her, not only did she not resist, but she also reached out her hands and wrapped them around his neck.
Madeleine’s face drained of color in an instant, and her heart filled with panic.
What should she do about having relations with Howard after their divorce?
How should she face Howard upon waking?
Pretend as if nothing happened, not minding, or…
And what about him?
What would he say to her when he woke up? Would he say he was drunk last night, accidentally walked into the wrong room, and ended up in the wrong bed? Or would he apologize and ask her to forget about that night?
Whatever might co from his mouth, for a man who didn’t love her and who had gone out of his way to divorce her, it seed unlikely he would tell her he would take responsibility, or that he loved her or anything along those lines.
Madeleine’s mind was in chaos, so much so that eventually, she had just one thought: since she had nothing to say, she might as well escape for now.
Thinking this, Madeleine moved Howard’s arm aside and wriggled out from his embrace. She took a quick shower in the bathroom, got dressed, and slipped out of the house without a sound.
Madeleine went to the underground parking lot, started up another car, and drove for a while before rembering that she was originally supposed to continue hanging out with Andrew today. So she hurriedly pulled out her phone, realizing that she had forgotten to charge it upon returning ho last night and at so point, it had turned off automatically.
After connecting her phone to the car charger and waiting roughly five minutes, the phone turned on automatically, followed by a flood of missed call alerts, most of which were from Andrew. Madeleine quickly returned his calls.
Andrew was not angry and was still waiting for her patiently at the hotel. Madeleine apologised several tis before hanging up and drove to the hotel where Andrew was staying.

Perhaps because he drank too much alcohol, and coupled with the indulgence of last night and not sleeping well these days, Howard slept especially deeply and soundly. By the ti he opened his eyes and ca to, it was already twelve o’clock noon.
