Chapter 914: Chapter 914 Learning to Refuse (4)_1

The April from that ti was really good to him, the kind of good that was wholehearted and undivided.

Yet, the sa April who had been so good to him, why didn’t she have the patience, the patience to wait for him a bit longer?

After all, the April of the past was the sister he had always protected, cherished, and taken care of, even in tis of danger, when she faced peril, he could without any hesitation rush forward and take a knife for her. So why, when she first made a mistake and drove him and Anita Madris apart, did he beco so angry? Why was he so cruel to her?

Why didn’t he just indulge her more at the ti, spoil her a bit more?

Howard Coleman was actually soone who hated hypotheticals, because he knew that hypotheticals were tantamount to regrets. Every step in life is one’s own to take, whether painful or difficult. Regret is the most futile and pointless of actions. Yet, at this mont, Howard Coleman couldn’t stop wondering, if he hadn’t been so cruel to April back then, what would they look like now?

Would she still be deeply in love with him?

Would she leave a light on for him when he ca ho late and stand in the doorway, smile in her eyes, asking him if he wanted supper?

Perhaps, they might have had one well-behaved child, not as many as The Triplets, just one would suffice. Regardless of whether it was a boy or a girl, he would hold them dear in his heart.

Or maybe, on a sunny afternoon, he and she could take their child to the amusent park, or steal a mont to laze around on the balcony, soaking in the sun, drinking black tea, silently reading their own books to each other, while their child nestled lazily in his arms, sleeping sweetly.

Howard slowly closed his eyes, he felt as if there was a hollow in his heart, as if a cold wind was blowing in and swirling inside.

Lost in thought, Howard staggered back to his car, then drove to the nearest bar, took a seat at the counter and started drinking wine after wine, letting the bartender pour for him.

In the end, Howard’s eyes turned red.

His hypotheticals were so beautiful, weren’t they?

If only life had hypotheticals, he and she would certainly have been very happy. Sadly, life isn’t a test paper where you can simply erase and correct your mistakes with an eraser. With life’s answer sheet, one mark determines the finale.

Howard raised another large glass of alcohol to his lips, pouring it into his belly, and as he did, he suddenly began to envy the version of himself that had once been loved unreservedly and with all of April’s might.

The bar was sowhat noisy. Soone was on stage with a guitar, singing a rock ballad. Howard just kept on endlessly pouring drink into himself, and just when he didn’t know how many glasses he had consud, the bar suddenly beca quiet. After about a minute, a very soft piece of music began to play throughout the bar, and then a female voice, sowhat magnetic, started singing a love song.

“Skylly cries as she says she can’t stand it anymore, erasing her identity like a shadow. She’s unwilling to steal what belongs to others, but her lover forces her into mistakes.”

Howard generally didn’t listen to music, but when he heard this lyric, it struck a familiar chord, though he couldn’t recall which song it was.
