The nurse hurriedly wiped the baby’s face and stuffed the pacifier back into its mouth, answering Steve Burton’s question with so trepidation: “The children were born about forty days early.”
Forty days early? Not three months early?
So, does that an Ruby Gregory gave birth to the triplets almost nine months into her pregnancy?
Doing the math, was Ruby pregnant since last November?
He and Ruby had their engagent party planed on the 10th of December. In the month before their engagent was called off, Ruby was with him almost every day, right?
So… the triplets, these three children, are they really his?
Suddenly, Steve turned around abruptly and strode out of the nursery.
The nurse hadn’t even fully turned around yet when, in the spot where Steve had just been standing, there was no longer anyone to be seen. Blinking in disbelief, she wondered what was up with this handso young dad she had seen in the hospital. Why on earth had he co to the nursery in the middle of the night just to ask how early his children were born?

Ruby stood in place, still not understanding why Steve would turn around and leave after hearing that the triplets were his children when the door to the ward was abruptly pushed open again. Raising her eyes, she saw that it was Steve, who had just left and now returned.
Steve marched up to Ruby with a threatening air, gritting his teeth as he said, “Ruby Gregory, you got pregnant with my child, and now you’re telling ?!”
It seed like in the matter of the children, she was the most innocent victim, right? So why had he now co to question her so arrogantly?
Ruby couldn’t help but glare at Steve angrily, and without thinking, she retorted with even more force: “Is it who wanted to wait until now to tell you? At that ti, who was it that got drunk, burst into soone’s house in the middle of the night, and clung to them crying and begging that they liked them, only to disappear the next day?”
At the words, Steve’s angry expression faltered, and his deanor suddenly faltered, now seemingly more flustered. As the saying goes, don’t bring up personal matters when insulting soone. Ruby’s words were clearly a personal attack. When had this woman beco so sharp-tongued?
Steve was at a loss for words for a mont before he recollected himself. He straightened his body a bit and turned to face Ruby with an air of righteousness: “Ruby Gregory, you’re completely unreasonable. I’ve been avoiding you for half a month now. My question is, why didn’t you tell when you got pregnant with my child last year!”
Why was he getting so worked up like this? Did he think he was the only one who could do so?
Thankfully she had decided to confront him now that her body had mostly recovered. Otherwise, lying in a hospital bed in pain, she would have had no choice but to watch him angrily venting at her.
At this thought, Ruby also stood a little taller, glaring at Steve without giving in at all: “I’d have to ask Mr. Steve Burton why he secretly fed long-term contraceptive pills!”
Like he had heard sothing impossible, Steve chuckled: “Long-term contraceptives? Ruby Gregory, are you so kind of joke sent by monkeys?”
Was he calling her a joke?
Ruby took a deep breath, not thinking as she lifted her leg and kicked Steve’s knee. Then she turned and walked to one side, reaching out and pulling the “vitamin” bottle that Steve had once given her from her bag, and furiously threw it at him.
