The massive walls around the city was like a hedge, and none that was not too easy to go over seeing as they were all close to a hundred feel tall. The tree city, had parts of it that had been hollowed out, in fact it was through one of the largest hollow you could get a good look into the city itself.
On the walls Cole could see Anichs with long range capabilities, siege engines or rather engines utilized to stop sieges. These guys were prepared, and with how much food they were sitting on, it was hard to see a way that Cole would be able to break through those defenses, he would need to get close to be able to go through, but they would pick them off all one by one before they got close, and to make matters worse, Cole had no access to his hot weapons, if not he would have just snipped them all from a distance.
"How do we get into that?" Pasco asked as he looked at the massive city, it was obvious that this was the first ti the scout had seen the city of Te rea. This world was such that, most people would go their entire lives without ever once setting foot outside of The Boreas. And not even goes further as so people don't even know what one end of Te Boreas looks like from the other.
"Set up camp, let them know that we're here but do nothing. Coordinate with the scouts of the subjugation force that has been failing since they got here. I need you to scout the entire periter of the city, and given it's size, I think it will take you all at least 5 hours to go around it and get back to ." Cole said to Pasco as the man nodded, before Cole stopped him.
"You didn't even ask what you would be scouting for Pasco, that's bad…..I don't usually need scouts, especially when I'm sure the subjugation army would have scouted around the city already. Asking you to do so again would be a waste of ti, plus I'm sure they still have people watching every corner of the city." Cole said with a smile as Pasco put his hands to his sides and his feet together before blowing.
"My apologies my Lord, I am not bright as you think I am, and I have fallen short of your expectations." Pasco said as voice spoke out from the side and Cassandra showed up with Razor right behind her, Cole had sent his own people ahead, or rather they were in the vicinity and have been his eyes and ears on the situation for the better part of 3 days.
"Dont sweat it too much Kid, he knows there's no way you would be able to know, it's just that our fearless Chaos Lord here, has a flair for the dramatic, which would explain why your lady mother has been so insistent on building or adjoining a theatre to the Black Tower."
"That's Raen Valley business Cass, pace yourself. Pasco you guys will be scouting for roots." Cole spoke to Pasco as he stretched his hand out to fist bump Razor, even after he just berated his mother. Honestly speaking Cole's leadership and Cass and her son's loyalty to him was new. And while it was absolute for them all, it was weird going from normal new century folks to giving respect like dark age peasants.
"Roots My Lord?" Pasco asked confused, which was good. Cole was not all about blind followers, which was why Cassandra had this level of freedom with him, plus she was a part of his inner circle too.
"Yeah that's a big ass tree over there." Razor answered on behalf on Cole, as the teen stepped forward. "A tree that big would have extrely massive roots, and trees don't sent their roots straight down, they really wouldn't be able to stay upright that way, so the roots have to spread out, roots an a direct access to the tree itself, so basically an underground tunnel. " Cole clamped a hand on Razor's shoulder.
"You've gotten smarter kid, and stronger too Mr. Alchemist." Cole said to him with an elder brother like tone, honestly Razor, his brother's kids, the two kids he had saved from Tehilla's space station and funny enough another teen girl that was Eze's well hidden daughter and two of Peronico's kids.
If he was not with Tehilla or dealing with so matters, he spent the most ti with them. And it has been a learning and healing process not just for him, but also for them. It was crazy really, but Razor was probably a lot closer to Cole than he ever could possibly be to his mother. The kid is his baby brother.
"Peronico is a genius, plus the Collegium has been hosting college classes. At the mont Peronico and his elder kids are the teachers, but there have been people amongst the Denizens that offered books, or knowledge they had, so even becoming teachers. There's plenty of things to learn other than smashing heads and darklings with you all the ti. Now do you want to go find this root with Pasco here?" Razor asked while Cole shook his head.
"Why! Pasco is even more qualified than you to find it, stay here with and your Mom, let's have a conversation." Cole said but Razor shook his head.
"I'd rather not, I've been itching for so action so instead just give a mission, anything please." Cole looked from Razor to Cassandra, neither wanted to look at his face but he could sense the distress from both of them, seems the Mom and son were working through so issues. Cole shook his head, he too was a teen once, best let the boy have so ti to himself to stew in whatever it is that's wrong with him.
"Sure you and Pasco can lead a scouting party and find a root large enough to travel through. Doesn't have to a person height but it has to be at least a body and a half or two bodies wide. Now run along, I need those roots quick, waiting around makes jittery, and when I'm jittery."
Razor laughed as he answered.
"Yes, yes I know My Lord…..People Die."
