The next day, Yueyao woke up at the usual ti. This ti, she didn’t go back to sleep and got up directly. One day of laziness was enough, sleeping in every day was easy to breed laziness.
While Yueyao was practicing boxing, An Zhichen watched from the side, making Yueyao feel uneasy, and she said, "Go busy yourself, don’t watch ."
An Zhichen laughed and left the courtyard.
Just as she finished practicing, wiping her sweat, An Zhichen ca over.
Nanny Hao ca in and said, "Miss, everything has been packed." The gifts Yueyao prepared for her family visit were quite substantial, after all, insufficient gifts would be looked down upon.
After breakfast, Yueyao and An Zhichen returned to the Lian family. Yueyao traveled by carriage, while An Zhichen rode a horse. They were accompanied by maids and old nannies, along with a carriage full of gifts, making their way to the Lian family in a grand manner.
The Lian family was well-prepared; as soon as they reached the door, firecrackers crackled loudly. Zhou Yue and Tingyi ca out to welco Yueyao and An Zhichen.
Lian Dongfang had not gone to his post and was waiting at the residence.
Yueyao only found out upon arriving that Yuebing, Yuehuan, and Yueying had all returned as well, and not only that, all three of their husbands had accompanied them.
Yueyao found it odd; did An Zhichen have such influence? Her family visit prompted all the married daughters to return with their husbands.
Speaking of it, it was Yueyao’s first ti eting her three sisters’ husbands. Yueyao didn’t particularly focus on the three n, only casually glanced over them. Without introductions, Yueyao could discern their identities.
Marquis Luyang was older and radiated an authoritative aura; his status was evident at a glance. As for Yao Xiuran and Qian Tu, they were even easier to identify.
Yao Xiuran wore a long robe of bamboo green today, his complexion unnaturally pale, clearly a man who had studied for many years. Qian Tu appeared the most lavishly dressed, with his garnts and accessories all genuine treasures.
The people across from them were also sizing up Yueyao and An Zhichen.
The bride usually wears red within a few days of the wedding, as per tradition. Therefore, Yueyao was dressed in a bright red embroidered pogranate floral jacket, matched with a long skirt of the sa color Cloud Brocade. Her hair was styled in a peony bun, adorned with a set of red gold gemstone headdress.
An Zhichen wore a sapphire-blue long robe Yueyao had made for him. His hair was not adorned with a jade hairpin or peach wood but secured by a red gold tiger-head clasp. While he couldn’t be called a handso man, he was a dignified and fine young man.
Everyone looking at the two of them standing together conceded in their hearts that the pair was indeed well-matched.
After the ceremonial greetings, the n and won separated.
Yuebing said with a smile, "I didn’t find our third brother-in-law as dark as I heard. I don’t know who spread such nonsense saying our third brother-in-law is pitch black!"
Yuehuan interjected, "Rumors are not to be trusted." Of the four standing together, Marquis Luyang was the most imposing, yet An Zhichen had the most energy.
Yueying, however, found An Zhichen too tall and robust-looking. Though a bit selfish, Yueying wasn’t foolish; she knew better than to speak ill in this kind of social situation.
Yuebing raised her voice and asked, "Yueyao, when are you planning the family reunion?" The family reunion is typically on the third day after the wedding, though so choose the sixth day. It’s an event for relatives from both sides to et, fostering good relations.
Yueyao replied with a smile, "It’s still early, no rush." Yueyao thought the third day would be too soon; it would have to be at least the sixth day, to give her so ti to prepare. The family reunion is her first chance to manage a gathering independently, so she couldn’t afford to ss it up.
Seeing Yueyao’s answer, Yuebing stopped pressing the subject and instead ntioned the pogranate flowers on Yueyao’s attire: "The pogranate flowers embroidered on your clothes are exquisite, Yueyao, who embroidered them?"
Yueyao smiled gracefully, "Oh, it was done by my maid nad Xi Juan, she’s quite skilled with needlework." Although Yueyao’s clothes were mostly custom-made at the Cloth Workshop, so were indeed made by Xi Juan.
Zhou Yue had invited an opera troupe to perform today. For won in deep seclusion, besides occasional social outings, listening to opera was considered a rare pasti.
Being the protagonist today, it was only natural that Yueyao got to choose a performance first.
Not being a regular opera-goer, Yueyao demurred, "I’ve never listened to opera and wouldn’t know what is good, so I’ll let sister-in-law choose!"
Zhou Yue laughed, "It’s just for fun, any opera will do."
Yueyao then picked a lively performance. As the opera began its lilting tunes, the won below started talking among themselves.
When won gathered, conversations invariably turned to husbands and children. Discussing husbands’ prospects was tricky since among the five, two were scholars, two were military generals (with Marquis Luyang holding a military post), and Qian Tu was a businessman. As for children, three had not yet borne any.
