Chapter 921: Chapter 390: The Fall (Part 1)
Yueyao was categorizing books when she heard many footsteps outside. Yueyao put down the book in her hand and walked out of the study.
As soon as Yueyao walked out of the study, she saw Prince Duan. Yueyao was not surprised to see Prince Duan, for in her impression, Prince Duan was a very kind elder.
Seeing the charming Yueyao standing in front of him, Prince Duan had no doubts. Prince Duan asked, “How did you, young lady, end up in Haikou? What happened?” Not only did Prince Duan admire Yueyao’s talents, but he also treated her as a junior. Now, seeing Yueyao suddenly appearing in Haikou was truly astonishing to him.
Yueyao calmly greeted him and said, “Your Highness, this matter is quite long to explain. Please have a seat inside the house.”
Prince Duan entered the courtyard with only two personal guards, followed by An Zhichen, with no others present.
Yueyao personally poured tea for Prince Duan.
Prince Duan waved his hand and said, “I’m not thirsty. Just tell how you ended up in Haikou?” There was no way Yueyao voluntarily ca to Haikou; otherwise, An Zhichen wouldn’t have used Lv Yao as a cover.
Yueyao let out a bitter smile and explained how she was abducted from the Vice Minister’s Mansion, stuffed inside a box to be transported out of Capital City like cargo, had her appearance altered, and was disguised as an ill person to be brought to Haikou, where she was housed in a residence at Shatian Alley, and eventually rescued by An Zhichen.
This was the first ti Yueyao had recounted these events, even An Zhichen was hearing it for the first ti. An Zhichen had wanted to ask about it before but feared Yueyao would be upset, so he dared not inquire further.
Prince Duan slapped the table angrily, glaring at An Zhichen, “This is outrageous, tell , who would dare commit such audacity?” To abduct soone from the Vice Minister’s Mansion and bring them to Haikou; this person showed complete disregard for the law.
An Zhichen relaxed his clenched fists and said, “It was the Shu Region Twelve Evils who abducted Zichang; five of them are dead, and the remaining seven have disappeared. Based on our deductions, the mastermind should be Zhou Shu, but we haven’t found any conclusive evidence.” Even if they had conclusive evidence, it would prove difficult to accuse Zhou Shu directly.
Prince Duan was stunned, “Zhou Shu? Zhou Shu is rely a rchant, how could he have such boldness?” Prince Duan thought it might be a mistake.
An Zhichen nodded affirmatively, “It is undoubtedly Zhou Shu.”
Prince Duan looked at Yueyao, full of doubt, and asked, “Why would Zhou Shu abduct you? Has he ever t you?” In theory, Zhou Shu and Yueyao shouldn’t have t. If they hadn’t t face-to-face, it was unlikely he would abduct Yueyao. Surely, Zhou Shu didn’t kidnap her simply because of her fa; that notion seed too far-fetched.
Yueyao smiled bitterly, “I inadvertently t him at the Zhou Residence when I went to visit my senior brother; perhaps it was destined to be a calamity in my life.” Sotis Yueyao found fate quite mysterious; it brought you to face a tribulation you couldn’t escape. She always wanted to avoid this matter, but unfortunately, it couldn’t be averted.
Prince Duan angrily responded, “What calamity? This has nothing to do with you!” Zhou Shu was audacious, lawless, essentially deserving of punishnt.
Yueyao’s eyes welled with tears, but she tried hard not to let them fall. Sotis, withholding tears can invoke more pity.
Prince Duan rembered Yueyao’s previous difficult circumstances, but no matter how dire things were, amid the endless rumors, he saw Yueyao as spirited and full of life. However, it was his first ti witnessing such grief-stricken expression. Prince Duan solemnly said, “Yueyao, rest assured, I will certainly bring this audacious scoundrel to justice.” Although he had intended to deal with Zhou Shu, he wanted to arrange matters more thoroughly before acting. Seeing the situation now, it seed the plan needed to change.
Yueyao’s tears finally fell, and kneeling on the ground, she said, “Thank you, Your Highness.” With Prince Duan’s assurance, she believed Zhou Shu would soon be brought to justice.
An Zhichen felt uneasy seeing Yueyao cry with tear-filled eyes.
Prince Duan also realized it was not appropriate to linger here and prepared to leave after exchanging a few words. Looking at the courtyard with few people around, he asked, “Is it safe here? If not, co stay at my place.”
Yueyao’s eyes were red, like a rabbit’s, and she expressed her gratitude, “Thank you for your concern, Your Highness. General Lord has stationed guards outside and my righteous brother has sent people from the Capital City to protect in secret; I am very safe here.”
Prince Duan nodded, “That’s good.”
