Chapter 489: Chapter 182: Conflicts Arise Again
Yueyao turned her head to look at Luo Mingzhu’s sullen expression and smiled gently. After interacting for two months, she had co to understand Luo Mingzhu’s personality quite thoroughly. In fact, Luo Mingzhu had a good nature and was straightforward, it was just that her temper was very bad, but if she slightly corrected her temper, she would be quite pleasant to get along with. And with her own urging over this period, Mingzhu’s bad temper had indeed been restrained quite a lot.
After going through so much, Yueyao actually liked Luo Mingzhu’s simple nature very much, laughing loudly when happy, and putting on a straight face without speaking to anyone when not. Being with Luo Mingzhu allowed Yueyao to relax because she didn’t need to be guarded and could open her heart in becoming friends with Mingzhu.
Yueyao looked at Luo Mingzhu, thinking to herself that it would be quite good if Mingzhu could always be like this. With this thought, Yueyao’s heart stirred, and she pretended to speak casually, “Last ti at Four Treasures Square, I also saw Shen Conghao, and the man with him even mistook for you.”
Luo Mingzhu asked with so curiosity, “Who? How could he mistake you for when we look so different? What kind of eyesight is that?” It was very strange indeed, it required quite a skill to mix them up. They looked different, had different heights, there was no similarity between them at all.
Yueyao laughed and said, “It might be because I was wearing a veil at the ti, and he couldn’t see my face, so he mistook for you.”
Luo Mingzhu frowned and said, “Even with a veil, it’s impossible to mistake us. I am a whole head taller than you.”
Seeing this, Yueyao continued, “Not only that, this person was rude and said that I had learnt of his whereabouts and purposely waited for him at Four Treasures Square, telling not to waste my effort, saying he wasn’t interested in . It’s really funny; he thinks too highly of himself with a face that looks okay but unfortunately has a brain filled with mush.”
Yueyao pretended not to notice the pale look on Luo Mingzhu’s face and went on, “To think Shen Conghao would be friends with such a person; he surely can’t be any good. Ah, and to be betrothed to such a person, it’s really worriso.”
Luo Mingzhu, however, didn’t hear the latter part of what Yueyao said; she grabbed Yueyao’s hand and asked, “What did you say? Did he really say that he wasn’t interested in ?” Luo Mingzhu automatically substituted Yueyao for herself; the idea that Brother Xuan didn’t like her was sothing Luo Mingzhu absolutely couldn’t accept.
Yueyao exclaid in surprise, “What are you talking about? Do you know who this crazy person is?” Knowing the truth in her heart, she still pretended to be clueless.
Luo Mingzhu moved her lips but found herself unable to tell Yueyao that this person was the Brother Xuan she liked. Luo Mingzhu was a person who valued face highly, how could she admit this at such a juncture?
Bai Yi, who was at the side watching, did not speak. She didn’t know why Yueyao suddenly brought up Ning Lixuan, but she knew that Yueyao was helping her own mistress. So, when Luo Mingzhu didn’t speak, Bai Yi said from the side, “Miss, last ti you didn’t ask and I didn’t tell you, but that person is the Heir to Duke Ning.” Bai Yi was also playing along with Yueyao’s act.
Yueyao felt Bai Yi was really too clever and couldn’t help but laugh, “They say the Heir to Duke Ning is one of the four great young talents of Capital City; to have such a decorative pillow be called a talent, such ‘talent’ is really worth nothing.”
Luo Mingzhu could no longer bear to listen, and imdiately shouted at Yueyao, “Don’t slander Brother Xuan. You are the decorative pillow, your head is filled with mush.”
Yueyao’s face instantly darkened as she coldly said to Luo Mingzhu, “And for so irrelevant person, you actually insult .”
Luo Mingzhu was so angered by Yueyao that she blurted out without thinking, “Brother Xuan is not an outsider; you’re the outsider, you are the irrelevant outsider.”
Bai Yi thought Yueyao was going to erupt again, but she saw Yueyao was not angry and instead calmly said, “You’re right, I am an outsider, a person who doesn’t matter.” After finishing her words, Yueyao walked away from Mingzhu.
Once back at the mansion, Luo Mingzhu darted into her room, and Yueyao returned to her own. She was not willing to indulge Mingzhu’s bad habits.
Xi Yu ca over and whispered, “Miss, your bath is ready.”
Yueyao waved her hand, “Everyone out, I need so peace.”
Yueyao leaned back in her chair, wondering if she had just been ddling too much. Even if Ning Lixuan didn’t like Mingzhu, in the end, Mingzhu had still married him. With Marquis Jingning’s residence and the Empress Dowager backing Mingzhu, she wouldn’t live too poorly in Duke Ning’s Mansion. Yueyao couldn’t clearly figure out whether getting involved in Mingzhu’s love life was right or wrong.
Xiang Wei walked in and, seeing Yueyao’s troubled expression, asked, “Miss, what are you thinking about?”
Yueyao didn’t hide anything from Xiang Wei and said, “I’m thinking whether I was ddling too much just now. It seems inappropriate for to intervene in this matter.”
Xiang Wei smiled and asked, “Then why did Miss interfere in this matter?”
Yueyao murmured, “Yeah, why did I ddle in such matters?” She paused before adding, “I only heard outsiders say that Mingzhu likes Ning Lixuan, and I felt Ning Lixuan wasn’t worthy of her, so I ddled. I wanted Mingzhu to know that Ning Lixuan is not a good person.”
After Bai Yi persuaded Mingzhu for a while, she reluctantly ca over. Just as they were at the door, they heard Yueyao saying that Ning Lixuan wasn’t worthy.
Mingzhu was stunned; she felt Yueyao had it backward. Brother Xuan was brimming with talent, gentle and considerate, and handso; whereas she was rude, had a bad temper, and knew nothing about Guqin, Chess, Calligraphy, and Painting, or Poetry and Songs. She was the one unworthy of Brother Xuan, so why did Yueyao say Brother Xuan was unworthy of her?
Luo Mingzhu originally wanted to speak, but she found herself unable to say anything. Moreover, she was unable to move.
Bai Yi shook his head at Mingzhu. He wanted his master to hear clearly why Miss Lian said Ning Lixuan was unworthy of her.
Yueyao was unaware that Bai Yi and Luo Mingzhu were at the door, but Xiang Wei knew. Xiang Wei cheerfully said, “Doesn’t Miss know? Heir Ning is also known as a talented scholar in Capital City. Moreover, the Heir Apparent is handso, cos from a good family, has a good temperant, and is first-rate in literary grace. How could he be unworthy of Miss Mingzhu?” Xiang Wei deliberately led Yueyao to continue.
Yueyao dismissively said, “Handso? What’s the use of a man being handso; it’s not like you can eat good looks. A good temperant? He pretends well, but no one sees through his facade. As for his literary grace, not to boast, but even I, who knows only half as much, am better than him. Yet he dares to claim a reputation for literary grace. His na as a scholar is nothing but a sham and deception.” Yueyao belittled Ning Lixuan as worthless.
Xiang Wei inwardly laughed, not believing a word. However, she still pretended to humbly inquire, “Even if Heir Ning’s literary grace isn’t outstanding, he is still the Heir to Duke Ning. Apart from her status, Miss Mingzhu is also worthless in everything else. She knows none of the Four Arts expected of a young lady from a noble family, not to ntion Guqin, Chess, Calligraphy, or Painting, or even household chores like cooking and sewing. And even her handwriting looks like worms. How can Miss say that Heir Ning is unworthy of Miss Mingzhu?”
Yueyao shook her head faintly, “Although Mingzhu has a bit of a temper, she’s also straightforward, and it’s relaxing to be around her.”
Xiang Wei looked at Yueyao with a bit more respect; Yueyao wasn’t as scheming as she had thought. However, Xiang Wei persisted, “Even for that reason alone, you cannot say Heir Ning is unworthy of Miss Mingzhu.”
Yueyao didn’t want to explain too much and simply said, “Although I’ve only t Ning Lixuan once, the impression he gave was very fake. People like him are good at pretending, and those who are good at pretending are often hypocritical.” She had never t Ning Lixuan in her previous life; all her impressions were from Mu Qinglian’s and Yuebing’s descriptions. According to them, Ning Lixuan was a peerless good man, hard to find in heaven and on earth. In her previous life, Yueyao didn’t give it much thought, but having t Ning Lixuan this ti, she knew that all claims were false. How could such a flawed person receive so much praise? There was only one reason: the man had hidden his true nature, presenting himself as flawless.
After Bai Yi released Mingzhu from her paralysis, she rushed to Yueyao’s side and exclaid, “You’ve only seen Brother Xuan once, what gives you the right to say he’s hypocritical?”
Yueyao said indifferently, “Have you co to argue with ?” She had no intention of clashing head-to-head with Luo Mingzhu.
Looking at Yueyao’s calm deanor, Mingzhu beca even more infuriated, but she was powerless against Yueyao’s indifference. Mingzhu was fuming, but she didn’t have the guts to shout at Yueyao. Yueyao had an even worse temper than hers, and if Mingzhu yelled again, Yueyao would likely turn hostile right then and there.
