Chapter 477: Chapter 175 Xiang Wei_2

The issue with the female guard had been resolved, and next ca the male guard.

The male guard was a genuine guard of Hou Zheng, with quite high martial skills, but he had collided with Bai Han a while ago. Bai Han, utterly infuriated, claid that the guard had inappropriate intentions towards her and complained to the Lady of Marquis Jingning’s Residence. After learning of this incident, the Lady of Marquis Jingning flew into a rage, originally wanting to beat the guard to death. However, Madam Ping intervened, and in the end, after forty heavy hits, his life was spared.

This man’s wife was close with one of Madam Ping’s trusted maids. Upon hearing from Yueyao about the need for a guard, that trusted old nanny recomnded him. Given such an incident, the Marquis’ household certainly couldn’t keep him any longer. If Yueyao could employ him, it would be a way out for him.

Bai Yi had t this person and found him quite acceptable, so he recomnded him to Yueyao. Bai Yi said, “Miss, rest assured, this man’s character is very good; it was all a misunderstanding. Now he has fully recovered, but of course, if the Miss is unwilling, we can seek elsewhere.” Knowing Yueyao, Bai Yi felt it wouldn’t matter if the male guard started training later, as nothing would happen to Lian Tingzheng while he was in the Li family.

Yueyao had not co to a conclusion, but instead said, “I will decide after eting him.”

Yueyao was bringing on guards for Tingzheng for two reasons: firstly, to guard against the desperate Lady family from harming him in secret, and secondly, because Tingzheng was so attractive that he might draw unwanted attention, necessitating protection.

Yueyao t with the man. He was about thirty years old, dressed in a gray robe, with rough features, dark skin, a burly figure, and a straight back.

Yueyao didn’t really care about the man’s character, for the Marquis Jingning would not send soone of poor quality, as that would damage their own reputation. Looking at the man, Yueyao asked, “How many n of your size can you fight at one ti?”

The middle-aged man was initially surprised and after thinking it over said, “If they are sowhat skilled, I can handle five or six. If they have no martial skills, I can take on ten or so.”

Yueyao was sowhat puzzled inside, wondering why such a skilled person would be available to her, but now was not the ti to ask these questions. She inquired about the man’s terms: “I am considering hiring you as a guard for my younger brother, you can state any terms you have now.”

The man was taken aback by Yueyao’s amiable approach and pondered for a while, unsure of what conditions to set. Yueyao turned to Bai Yi and asked, “How much was his monthly salary at the Marquis’ household, and what else would he receive besides that?”

Bai Yi wasn’t very sure and said to the man, “You tell us.”

The man then said, “In the Marquis’ household, the monthly allowance of silver was twelve taels, plus two sets of clothes every season, nothing more.”

Yueyao genuinely felt that the guard’s monthly allowance of silver was low. She suddenly asked, “You must be married with children, right?” It would be even better if he had a family, so she wouldn’t worry about him leaving. After all, as long as he stayed by Tingzheng’s side, his inco would be stable.

The man nodded: “I have a wife and children.”

Bai Yi quickly said, “Miss, his wife and children will be released as well.” With the man no longer at the residence, it was natural that his wife and children would also be let go.

Looking at the man, Yueyao said, “I will give you twenty taels of silver per month, and you won’t lack anything you received at the Marquis’ household. What do you think?” After a pause, she added, “Rest assured, you won’t need to follow my brother every day. Just accompany him when he goes out.”

The man’s face showed gratitude: “Thank you, Miss.” Being driven out of the Marquis’ household, he had been very worried about his future livelihood. Now that his reputation was tarnished, no one would hire him as a guard, and yet he still had a family to support. Escorting caravans for money was dangerous. Now he was only required to protect a child, with both plenty of leisure ti and a high salary—it couldn’t get any better.

Yueyao nodded: “You should continue to recover, and if there’s anything, I will send soone to call you.” The next ti she went to fetch Tingzheng, she could have him do it.

The man nodded, “Miss, my na is Hua Shaoye.”

Yueyao nodded to show she understood. There were plenty of male guards in the Marquis Jingning’s Residence, so there was no need to change his na. However, Bai ng had to change hers since her na was conspicuously linked to Bai Yi’s.

Yueyao went back to her room and asked Bai ng, “Can you tell why you are really here by my side?” Yueyao wasn’t trying to be overly inquisitive; she was just worried about any potential trouble that might follow.

Bai ng replied with a shallow smile, “Are you also thinking I have beco useless? Rest assured, I am more than capable of protecting you.”

Yueyao looked at Bai ng’s smile and felt a tightness in her chest. She quickly ca to her senses and shook her head, “I’m not looking down on you, I’m just worried that you won’t be able to stay by my side for long. I need soone who can always be there to protect .”

Bai ng responded with a cold sneer, “Don’t worry. Since the master has given to you, I am yours. Unless you drive away, I won’t leave you.”

Yueyao gave Bai ng a glance before saying, “I feel like you’re not just an ordinary person. Can you assure that after coming to my side, you won’t have any connection with your past and won’t cause any trouble?”

Bai ng shivered, as she initially looked down on the task of protecting a young girl, but hadn’t expected this girl to be so sharp, “Don’t worry. I am now rely your maid, a maid that protects you.” Although Bai ng wasn’t a Hidden Guard, she had been diligently trained by the marquis’ household. The reason she ended up being given to Yueyao by the Marquis Jingning’s people was a secret she would not share with Yueyao.

Yueyao remained silent, clearly contemplating whether to employ her services.

Bai ng shook her head, wondering how such a child could be more like a crafty adult.

After pondering for a long ti, Bai ng finally said, “I’ve been seriously injured, and even if I recover, I’ll still have severe lingering effects. But rest assured, I am more than capable of protecting you.”

Yueyao looked at Bai ng, feeling sowhat disheartened. The Marquis Jingning’s Residence was far from righteous, sending her two people—one seriously injured and the other thrown out by their own family—as if she were so kind of shelter. But then she thought, these two might actually feel a sense of belonging with her. If they were strong in martial skills and well, they might not be as devoted to her and her brother.

After a long thought, Yueyao said, “I still have to practice writing, so grind so ink for .” By saying this, she effectively acknowledged Bai ng as her maid.

As Bai ng ground the ink, she either made it too thick or too thin, resulting in unsightly writing. Yueyao didn’t bla her but instead put down her brush and said, “You should perfect your ink grinding before coming to !” Then she started grinding the ink herself.

Bai ng’s face turned red with embarrassnt. What a day of blunders it had been.

As Bai ng was preparing to leave, Yueyao said, “I think the na Bai ng is too conspicuous, so I plan to give you a new na. If you’re willing, just use your real na!” Bai ng’s na was too obviously on par with Bai Yi, and Yueyao didn’t want people to realize they were of the sa status.

Bai ng was stunned for a long mont before she said, “My forr na was Xiang Wei.” She had never thought that a day would co when she would use her real na again. Perhaps being by this child’s side might not be such a bad thing after all.
