Capítulo 1325: Chapter 543: The New Residence (Part 2)

Kexin thought, they should ask the opinions of the three younger brothers before making a decision.

Yueyao smiled and agreed, all the way to the Main Courtyard. The Main Courtyard had five Upper Chambers, all with carved beams and painted rafters, looking very grand.

Yueyao knew that the previous owner of this house was also a noble family, so this appearance was not surprising. Upon entering the room and seeing its size was more than twice as large as the one she lived in, she smiled and said, “This Main Courtyard is really quite large.” With such an appearance, it would definitely need to be redecorated, and it couldn’t be the sa as the other house.

After viewing the Main Courtyard, Yueyao had a general idea in her mind about how to arrange it.

An Zhichen returned ho at noon, entered the Main Courtyard and found no one: “Where’s Madam?” If Yueyao was going out, she would always let him know in advance, so if she’s not ho now, she must have gone out for sothing.

A young maid ca over and said, “Old Master, Madam went to Cloud Street to see the new house.”

After hearing this, An Zhichen waved the young maid away. During this period, he had been leaving early and returning late; when he got ho at night, the children were also back, and the house was lively. Now that his wife and children were not around, he sat in the house for a while and thought it felt too quiet.

After Yueyao finished viewing the Earl’s Mansion, she took Kexin to the streets to buy so things and finally went to the pastry shop to get so pastries.

Before Yueyao got off the carriage, she heard people quarreling outside. Yueyao frowned at Xiang Wei and said, “I won’t get off, you go get the pastries!”

Not long after, Xiang Wei ca over with the pastries, looking upset: “Madam, you should go back first! Sothing ca up here, I need to handle it.”

Yueyao didn’t ask much, took the pastries, and returned to the house with Kexin. When Yueyao got ho, she saw An Zhichen reading in the study and smiled, “When did you co back?” She had tid her return, but unexpectedly An Zhichen had returned ho early today.

An Zhichen smiled and said, “I ca back at noon. There’s not much going on today, so I took half a day off.” There’s a lot to do in taking over the command of the Imperial Guards.

Yueyao thought it was quite unfortunate, as it was rare for An Zhichen to have half a day off, and she ended up taking their daughter shopping.

An Zhichen felt sowhat guilty: “I’ve been busy since I returned, and haven’t had ti to take you out.”

Yueyao laughed and said, “Business is more important. Once things settle down, we’ll have plenty of ti to go shopping together.” Not only does she have many family matters, but now there are also many issues at the Imperial Court.

An Zhichen smiled briefly and talked about moving: “I had soone check the date, and we’ll move in five days.” The Earl’s Mansion is much more grandiose than here.

Yueyao was prepared and not surprised: “Almost everything has been moved except my things. I’ll have them start tomorrow.”

The banquet was set for May 26. An Zhichen originally intended for the joyous event to be held at the Earl’s Mansion, hence the late date.

In the evening, Xiang Wei ca back and talked about the issue at the pastry shop: “I originally thought soone hostile to our business was causing trouble, but it turned out not to be a custor issue—it was a problem with our shop. The steward lady in charge of procurent brazenly substituted inferior materials, causing custors to have diarrhea after eating the pastries. Luckily, it was only diarrhea; if soone had died, we would have had to close the shop.”

Yueyao was surprised: “Is there sothing unusual about this? Could soone be behind it?” Yueyao started thinking conspiratorially.

Xiang Wei shook his head and said, “I checked; the steward lady’s husband sohow got addicted to gambling and lost a lot of money. Previously, with Yuehuan and keeping an eye on things, the steward lady didn’t dare to act recklessly, just taking small kickbacks at most. This ti her husband lost the house and wanted to sell their children. As it happened, Yuehuan and I hadn’t been to the shop recently, so the steward lady took a desperate gamble, buying inferior materials to make up the numbers and embezzling the price difference to pay her husband’s gambling debts.” Xiang Wei had investigated these people before, and their backgrounds were clean, but things change.

Yueyao was at a loss for words, as addiction to gambling could ruin a family: “How did you handle it?”

Xiang Wei said, “The custor was reasonable and, seeing our sincere attitude, didn’t press charges, just asked us to cover dical expenses. That woman, I had to let go.” Pitiful people often have detestable qualities; Xiang Wei is not soft-hearted. Things had reached this point, and even if she forced her, the woman couldn’t produce money. It was better to let her go, out of sight, out of mind.

Yueyao said, “The procurent departnt’s matters are significant, it’s better to use family mbers.” The people in the mansion have indentured contracts and dare not overstep bounds.

Xiang Wei nodded and said, “That’s what I thought too.” Originally, the steward lady wasn’t responsible for procurent. Qiao Lan was the initial person in charge of procurent, later delegated elsewhere by Yueyao. The steward lady was promoted by Yuehuan, and Xiang Wei didn’t elaborate further on why.

Yueyao rembered that it had been several days without a definite ssage from Yuehuan: “Send soone to ask. If she disagrees, I’ll refuse Lord Zeng.” With so much consideration, she should give an answer and not keep stalling indefinitely.

Xiang Wei smiled and said, “I’ll ask tomorrow.”

Yueyao could guess what Xiang Wei was thinking: “Forcing things doesn’t work; if she agrees, that’s good. If not, don’t insist. Otherwise, if things don’t go well, we’ll be to bla!” Such matters require mutual consent; they can’t be forced.

Xiang Wei smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I know the limits.” Yuehuan didn’t refuse, but rather hesitated due to certain concerns.

Yueyao recalled what Yuehuan had once said to her and for so reason, sighed. It’s really rare for Yuehuan to adapt so well to such a vast environnt; if it were her, she wouldn’t know what would happen.
