Watching the three kids change day by day was quite an interesting thing for Yueyao during her confinent period. Kexin was growing fast too, but compared with the three boys, it was child’s play.
Xiang Wei ca in and looked at the three kids, saying, "How co the three kids don’t look alike at all? I was hoping they’d look exactly the sa; it would be fun not being able to tell them apart!" When she thought about it, Xiang Wei found it pretty strange; even Mingzhu’s twins didn’t look exactly the sa.
Upon hearing this, Yueyao’s expression turned grim. Fun, you say? What, are her sons supposed to be toys? "If they looked the sa, wouldn’t they take turns doing bad things in the future?"
Xiang Wei was just speaking casually and didn’t really an anything: "Well, speaking of which, you used to say that breastfeeding and being fed by a wet nurse are different, and I thought you were being fussy. Now I realize that being breastfed by one’s own mother actually does make a difference." Initially, the third among the three boys was the weakest, but now he was the strongest one. Having the comparison made the difference obvious.
Yueyao smiled slightly: "Let’s just hope in the future the eldest and second don’t say I’m biased." The eldest and second both had wet nurses; Yueyao only breastfed the third herself.
Xiang Wei snorted, "Let’s see who dares! If they dare to be unfilial, I’ll spank their behinds." Xiang Wei had been exposed to too many unsavory things, and had a bit of a shadow when it ca to n. Besides, she didn’t want kids, so she never considered getting married and having children, nor did she think about adopting any. But now that Yueyao had given birth to three boys, Xiang Wei felt like she had sothing to occupy herself with in the future.
An Zhichen returned from his duties and imdiately went to see Yueyao and the four children.
Yueyao seized the opportunity to ask, "When can we finally decide on the children’s nas? We can’t keep calling them Big Treasure, Second Treasure, and Little Treasure forever!" Yueyao initially planned to na them herself, but An Zhichen wouldn’t allow it; he insisted on naming them himself. From when the kids were three months old until now, more than half a year had passed and the nas still hadn’t been decided.
An Zhichen admitted defeat: "How about you na the kids after all?" It wasn’t that he hadn’t tried naming them before; as with Da Jun and Xiao Jun, Yueyao had no particular opinions on those nas. But Xiang Wei was the one with opinions; she couldn’t help but mock An Zhichen for the nas he ca up with, saying they were too rustic. Being a country bumpkin didn’t matter much, but the key was that Xiang Wei said the kids would definitely feel embarrassed about the nas when they grew up. After she said this a few tis, An Zhichen was left feeling downhearted and without any confidence.
Yueyao chuckled as she took a piece of paper from under the pillow and handed it to An Zhichen. It wasn’t that she predicted An Zhichen would be bad at naming; it was just a precaution. Now the prepared sheet could be put to use.
An Zhichen read the nas on the paper: "An Sheng, An Fei, An Ning..."
Yueyao nodded and explained: "Sheng ans brightness, prosperity, and flourishing; Fei implies cultural talent."
An Zhichen looked up at Yueyao, puzzled, "What about Ning? What’s the significance of Lin?" The first two sons’ nas were quite excellent, but the youngest’s na seed too ordinary.
Yueyao laughed and said, "I think this na is aningful too; Ning, for tranquility and peace." The na was common, but the aning was quite good.
An Zhichen felt Yueyao was favoring two over one. The nas of the eldest and second sons were clearly a notch above the third.
Yueyao laughed it off without explaining, then changed the subject: "Heyue, I plan not to have any more children." Three sons were enough. Having too many children left her without the ti or energy to raise them.
An Zhichen looked at Yueyao and, after a mont, said, "Let’s not have more children for the next five years. After five years, we’ll see how it goes, okay?"
Yueyao didn’t respond to that: "I really don’t want to have more. The four kids already take up most of my ti and energy. I can’t just keep having kids." Having children ant raising them, and if that continued, she’d have no ti to do the things she enjoyed. Yueyao wasn’t up for that.
An Zhichen chuckled and said, "It’s too early to talk about this now, make sure to take care of your health first." An Zhichen hoped Yueyao would have a couple more kids so the house would be lively. Most importantly, having many sons ant good fortune; more sons would lead to a prosperous household.
Yueyao knew it wasn’t the ti to persuade An Zhichen, so she didn’t continue the discussion.
An Zhichen talked to Yueyao about the children’s full moon celebration: "The children’s full moon banquet can’t be lavish. Shandong, Hebei, and two other provinces have been hit by severe floods, subrging countless farmlands and houses, and many have died. The Imperial Court is busy with disaster relief; having a big banquet now would be inappropriate." Throwing a big feast at this ti would definitely draw attention, and if the Imperial Censor found out, he’d have no way to get out of it unscathed.
