On this staircase that wasn’t particularly long, Gu Shengyin encountered several obstacles.

Those ghosts seed like they didn’t want them to go upstairs at all.

Though Gu Shengyin felt a bit tense, her hope grew stronger inside her.

In her view, the more the ghosts acted that way, the more it suggested that there might be sothing incredible upstairs.

Finally, they stepped onto the last stair leading to the second floor.

Gu Shengyin let out a sigh of relief.

She glanced towards the long and old corridor.

With just one look, her heart sank.

At the end of the corridor, an old lady with a face full of wrinkles was staring at them expressionlessly.

The old lady didn’t exude an eerie ghostly aura; she wore a sophisticated black gown, her expression harsh and severe, resembling the grand madams in period dramas.

However, appearing in such a place with such an outfit,

it was impossible for Gu Shengyin to believe she wasn’t a ghost.

The only explanation might be that this old lady, who showed no trace of ghostly aura, was a ghost even more frightening than those downstairs.

This realization sent a shiver down Gu Shengyin’s spine.

Others also looked at the old lady with wary expressions.

The next mont, they were horrified to find that the old lady, who was previously at the corridor’s end, was now right in front of them.

A chill ran through Gu Shengyin’s heart.

The ghosts downstairs, while unpredictable, could at least be seen moving.

But the movents of this old lady, even with the Spiritual Eye activated, were impossible to discern — it was as if she really teleported.

The only hope now might be the talisman provided by the system, hoping it would work on her too.

Thankfully.

The old lady only approached them but didn’t make direct contact.

The system confidently said, "Don’t worry, host. The Guanyin Soul-Calming Talisman produced by the system is absolutely guaranteed in quality; not even a Ghost King could break it."

Alright, Gu Shengyin felt a bit relieved.

A reprieve is always better than an imdiate execution, offering a bit more hope.

Up close, it was clear to see the old lady had a bluish tint to her skin, a color no living person would have.

Looking further down, her emaciated hand was marked with yellowish corpse spots.

But compared to the wildly imaginative appearances of the ghosts downstairs, the old lady looked much more normal.

Moreover, she didn’t seem to have any appetite for them.

Yes, appetite.

Gu Shengyin recalled how the statue ghost and other ghosts looked at her group as if they were delectable food, making it terribly uncomfortable.

Yet this old lady was different.

Her gaze didn’t view them as food but rather as strangers disturbing her.

Only disgust.

Standing a distance away from them, the old lady unexpectedly began to speak.

Her voice was like dry bark of an ancient tree, rasping and painful when swept up by the north wind, causing one’s skin to crawl.

"Humans, this is not a place you should be. Go down!"

She spoke slowly but very clearly.

This old lady seed to still have a relatively intact consciousness.

However, what she said was sothing the others found hard to accept.

Go down?

Didn’t everyone know that what awaited them below was a horde of vengeful ghosts?

Going down would be sending themselves to their deaths?
