Chapter 406: Chapter 406: Why Did You Tell All This?

Hearing this, Cang Ming’s eyes turned cold. He set down the wine cup in his hand, flicked aside the curtain, and strode outside.

Yin Wanning, left inside the tent, initially sighed in relief as if she had just survived a disaster, but upon hearing the sounds of fighting outside, her heart suddenly clenched again.

She hadn’t expected that they would encounter an assassin before even reaching Tulan Imperial City.

Yin Wanning looked around but found no weapons.

Her usual bow and arrows had been confiscated since it was a day of great joy; it wouldn’t do to have her carry a bow and arrows into marriage.

Although she had learned so martial arts, it wasn’t proper to display them in front of Cang Ming and his subordinates.

For now, her only option was to stay inside the tent.

After a while, the sounds of fighting outside gradually subsided.

Yin Wanning wanted several tis to go out and check the situation, but she feared becoming a living target.

During her indecision, Cang Ming had already returned, his body still carrying a thick scent of blood.

Although there seed to be no signs of injury on his face, Yin Wanning still felt that his complexion was paler than before.

“You…” Just as Yin Wanning was about to ask about his condition, Cang Ming hurriedly interrupted her, “I have sothing to attend to tonight, you should rest first.”

With that, he left the tent again without explaining who the assassins were or why they had targeted him.

Qi Yu saw that the light in Yin Wanning’s eyes instantly dimd.

She shook her head silently, thinking to herself, these two really make an interesting pair.

One clearly severely injured but still insisting he was fine, and the other kept in the dark, unsure whether to worry or not.

Yin Wanning sat for a while longer before rising emotionlessly, intending to extinguish the candle in the tent.

But standing in front of the candlelight, she remained motionless for a long ti.

Her beautiful face flickered dimly in the candlelight.

After a long while, just as Qi Yu was about to wonder if she planned to turn herself into a statue, she finally moved. However, she did not blow out the candle but instead turned and walked out of the tent.

Curious, Qi Yu followed her out, only to be startled by the bodies scattered all over the ground.

Then, the thick scent of blood in the air made her wrinkle her nose.

It seed the fight had been quite fierce.

Yin Wanning also froze; she had never killed anyone nor understood what a river of blood looked like.

Yet that night, right before her eyes, dozens of people had died.

The guards handling the bodies seed unsure of how to react upon seeing her.

Ultimately, it was Cang Ming’s trusted head guard, La Yan, who saluted her, “Princess.”

Qi Yu thought his address held profound aning.

Yin Wanning had already married Cang Ming, legitimately becoming the Crown Princess Consort, yet La Yan still addressed her as Princess.

And clearly, this was as Cang Ming had ordered.

Having been at his side for so many years, La Yan would certainly know such a basic courtesy.

Yin Wanning did not pay attention to his form of address, her gaze fixed unflinchingly on the black-clad n lying on the ground as she asked in a trembling voice, “Where is Cang Ming?”

La Yan’s eyes flickered but he did not directly answer her question, instead saying, “The Crown Prince is still busy. Princess should rest early; we continue our journey tomorrow.”

Yin Wanning looked up slightly, each word deliberate, “I want to see him.”

La Yan was about to decline again when he suddenly caught the cold light in her eyes. Startled, he was montarily intimidated. After a mont, he consented, “Please… follow .”

Yin Wanning followed behind him until they reached another tent.

La Yan stopped a few ters away from the tent and whispered to her, “His Highness ordered that no one should enter, so I will take my leave now.”

As he spoke, he was already aware that punishnt was inevitable, but he did not regret his decision very much.

As a confidant, he knew better than anyone that Cang Ming’s attitude towards Yin Wanning was different.

Leaving these words behind, La Yan quietly left.

Yin Wanning stood alone outside the tent, hesitating whether to go in or not.

Her relationship with Cang Ming was not as tense as fire and water, but it was also not very close.

It was indeed abrupt for her to co here.

Her fingertips, resting on the tent flap, gently slid downward. Yin Wanning pursed her lips, about to turn away when she suddenly heard a cold rebuke from inside the tent, “Who is it?”

It was Cang Ming’s voice.

Yin Wanning knew that, with his keen observation, he must have already known that it was her standing outside the tent.

She could only lift the curtain, suppress the apprehension in her heart, and walked in.

Inside the tent, only Cang Ming was present. He sat at a desk, draped in a black outer robe, while his ceremonial clothes had already been exchanged for a white inner garnt.

Upon seeing Yin Wanning, he calmly put down the docunt he was holding, looked at her, and asked, “Didn’t I tell you to rest?”

Yin Wanning slled a scent of herbal dicine and subconsciously furrowed her brows, “Are you hurt?”

Cang Ming coughed lightly twice and said indifferently, “It’s nothing serious, just so superficial injuries.”

Seeing that apart from looking a bit pale, he did not seem to be seriously injured, Yin Wanning nodded slightly, “That’s good.”

Neither of them were talkative. After these few words, the tent fell quiet again.

Yin Wanning’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and she took a small step backward, lowering her head and saying, “I’ll go back first.”

After speaking, she dared not look at Cang Ming’s intense gaze and turned to leave.

Before she had taken two steps, Cang Ming’s voice ca from behind her, “Those assassins were sent by my imperial brother.”

Yin Wanning stopped in her tracks, turned her head and looked at him sowhat puzzled, “Why are you telling this?”

The identity of the assassin’s master was not hard to guess. As the Crown Prince, those who wanted to kill him were naturally the few eligible to contest the throne with him.

But she did not expect Cang Ming to explain this to her.

eting her puzzled gaze, Cang Ming also paused for a mont.

He did not know why he had told her these things.

Just now, watching her leaving figure, he had suddenly felt a bit panicked and had spoken without thinking.

Now, realizing his abnormal behavior, he also felt sowhat annoyed.

Cang Ming’s lips tightened slightly, as he averted his gaze, his words not matching his thoughts, “It’s nothing, just didn’t want you to be so scared that you couldn’t sleep.”

Watching his awkward deanor, Yin Wanning let out a light sneer, her hands behind her back, and airily said, “Then I must thank His Highness the Crown Prince for your concern.”

Cang Ming felt even more embarrassed by her mocking words and glared at her angrily, but upon catching the light smile in the depths of Yin Wanning’s eyes, he was montarily distracted.

This was the first ti he had seen her smile, a face already stunningly beautiful beca even more lively, almost making it difficult for him to look away.

Yin Wanning, however, did not notice his thoughts and realizing she had gone too far, quickly concealed the smile in her eyes, and leaving the words “I’ll go back first,” she departed.

Therefore, she did not see Cang Ming’s eyes darken bit by bit.
