Chapter 669 - Loser
The child had not avoided his gaze so when she said those words, Marquess Sad watched as anger finally appeared in her eyes, succeeding in making the older man gulp his saliva.
He had been fretting that this might happen when he ca here and now that it was here, he was worried about what might happen next.
"But I always call you by your na…" He muttered, looking at her like a sulking child whose candy had been snatched away from him.
In response, the actual child in this room let out a scoff as she tilted her head.
'Those privileges are acquired through rit.' She sneered in her mind before giving him an appropriate answer.
"That was before I was aware of what you had done, my dear Tutor." She whispered through gritted teeth at the thought of the shock she had received yesterday.
Marquess Sad choked when the topic he had been hoping would never co up was finally brought up.
"I… That…" He fumbled to find the right words to alleviate the anger radiating through her body.
Usually, he would be haughty and might have even argued with her but this ti, it was different.
He knew that it was truly his fault so all he could do was attempt to placate her anger at any cost before he could give his explanation for what had taken place in the past.
"You see, I…" He continued, eating up the final bits of patience that the little girl had been trying hard to maintain.
"You an how you sold out before the King when I asked you not to reveal my na in that matter?" Yvonne aided him when she saw that he was struggling to complete even a single sentence.
Narrowing her eyes dangerously at him, she waited to see how he would redeem himself now that everything was out in the open.
Marquess Sad's lips parted and closed but no words could be heard coming from him.
'She seems too upset…' He gauged based on her current expressions which were finally different from the cold eyes she had shown earlier.
He was well aware of the reason why she had rejected the offer of taking credit for the help she had given to the King and the rest of the Kingdom.
However, he still could not figure out why she was so mad at him.
"Isn't what happened yesterday a good thing?" He mumbled his query, trying to decipher why his pupil was so odd sotis.
Others would be happy that the King praised them and even comnded the reason why she was so humble back when she had helped them.
Yet here sat Yvonne St. Claire, glaring and glowering at him for being the bridge between the two that had led to this surprising yet advantageous outco.
Yvonne was aghast to see the man sitting before her look at her as though she was not in her right mind.
Though she did keep him in the dark about her true reason for avoiding any contact with the King and other mbers of the Royal family, she had specifically asked him not to ntion her na even when she gave him that other excuse.
Following Asmodeus's teachings was just a ruse for her to steer clear from the fate that he had written for her in his script.
However, Marquess Sad's inability to hold in the truth had brought her back to the ss she had been trying to avoid.
Therefore, seeing him question her about why she was behaving oddly was making her glare at him once again.
"It doesn't matter if it was a good thing or not!" She scowled, animosity radiating from her body.
Marquess Sad had been watching her intently and thus had seen that she was lost in her thoughts before she returned to the present and yelled at him.
"Then what matters?" He questioned again, hoping to use her agitated state to gain so valuable answers.
Yvonne had caught onto his plans when she saw the look of intrigue flash across his crimson eyes.
"You betrayed , Marquess. That's what matters." She revealed the reason for her fury ever since she had stood in that Throne Room and heard praises from the King and those Ministers.
Marquess Sullivan Sad's interest in prying into her inner thoughts faded in that instant as his heart clenched after hearing her words.
However, she was not yet done with what she had to say so he could only be the passive mber of this conversation.
"Doesn't matter why I had asked you to keep my involvent a secret… What matters is that you broke the promise you made to ." She declared her stance in this matter.
He had promised to keep her na away from it but had later gone on to reveal everything before the King.
If that wasn't enough, he even kept what had taken place a secret from her which had given her a false sense of security until now.
'What I hate the most is being caught unaware.' She clenched her jaw because that was exactly what had taken place.
Marquess Sad lowered his head and his shoulders drooped after everything that he had heard.
"I was at fault." He accepted his mistake without trying to pin the bla on anyone else, neither did he try to argue with her about it.
Yvonne fixed her eyes on the man whose head was the only part she could see as he continued to gaze at his knees where his hands laid, clenched into fists.
"However, I never thought that you would state such an absurd proposition back then…' He muttered which caused the little girl's brows to furrow.
"What is that supposed to an?" She inquired straight away and without raising his head, the tutor revealed everything that had taken place in the past.
From the first eting with the King about the improvents to be made in the policies to the very end.
"I had already ntioned your na to the King before you asked to keep your involvent a secret." He confessed the truth which he had concealed until now.
On the very first eting, he had proudly proclaid that it was his prized pupil who had figured out the faulty policies.
The King had asked him to co up with the solutions and bring them over to him the very next day.
Thus he had arrived at her house and demanded her help in figuring everything out.
Only after receiving her help and on his way out of her house did she ask him to not disclose her involvent in this matter.
However, it was already too late by then as the King was aware of it from the very beginning.
"I had no intention of breaking the promise I made to you even then." Marquess Sad finally looked up at her with sincerity reflecting in his eyes.
Yvonne frowned but did not utter another word which implied that she wished to know more, everything that happened after that.
The tutor did not delay and revealed how his Butler had committed a blunder that had led to everything going awry.
"He placed that map you drew in the folder I had prepared to hand over to the King on our next eting." He revealed that it was his sleep-deprived state due to which he had not checked it before passing it to King Ophire.
The witty King placed the pieces of the puzzle together and in no ti, he had co to the conclusion of Miss Yvonne's involvent.
"I did everything I could to salvage the situation." He clamored to prove his innocence, though little but it was still present.
His stubborn attitude to remain tight-lipped was the reason why the King had sent his Ministers out of the Throne room, including his close friend Duke Brodie before he interrogated the Marquess.
"Have you ever seen the King's fierce aura?" He stuttered at the recollection of the mont that aura had enveloped him in order to make him spill everything.
Yvonne had co in contact with King Ophire's oppressive aura at the garden of the Main Palace when he had arrived during the confrontation between Earl Blaise and Viscount Valente.
Therefore, she understood what he was talking about.
"Now imagine being at the center of the fierce aura." He shuddered as the King could be scary at tis that he wished to get his way.
He then did not delay and even revealed how he had spilled everything before the King who indirectly threatened to charge him with treason if he were to continue lying to him.
Yvonne groaned, this ti at the King who just had to be smart enough to figure everything out.
"But when I begged him to keep everything a secret, he agreed without any objection." Marquess Sad muttered in an aggrieved voice.
He had no choice but to state everything he knew before the King but it was the King who had broken his promise later on and disclosed this confidential information to others.
Having co to an end of his plea to defend his honor and regain his status in his pupil's heart, Marquess Sad gazed at her, waiting to see how she would react.
By now, Yvonne had realized that just as Marquess Sad had tricked her into believing that everything was alright, the King had done the sa to him.
"Neither of you is better than the other." She declared her verdict with a sneer as she shook her head at the mind gas both had played.
In both cases, it was Yvonne who had beco the loser which was the cause of her fury and indignation.
